Soul Food #69

It's that beautiful time of the year when we celebrate a very special birth~
I know that every year my thoughts can get excited ..and happy because of my family..my little grandchildren.. the beauty of the snow..The memories of years gone by.. Mass.. being with my own parents..my family..
But melancholy can set in.. when visions of certain people no longer with us twirl in our minds..And all the commercialism.. can make one cringe.. Too much "stuff"...

All in all I've been pretty blessed..there have been times of course..like everyone..

It's the first time in many many years..that I am actually realizing that all this Christmas cheer..the songs on the radio..the loud Christmas Specials on TV with people dancing around ..all smiles... are not for everyone..

I know some are probably very blue around this time of year.. alone.. fearful..sick..homeless..missing someone special..

It's not for everyone to revel in Good Tidings of Joy~to ring in a New Year.. to party and be merry~

I just want to say that this year..in particular..I am thinking about you all.. and I hope ..in some way..you have a blessed Christmas.. Perhaps by thinking of what it really is about..some comfort will be had.
By looking into ourselves..for peace.

My little wax Jesus has stood the test of time.. he must be as old as I am.. 56..he's missing an arm.. his facial features are fading.. his hair is sparser..
But I love him to bits.. He's every Christmas I ever had.

And every Christmas I hope to have~Watching 4 little boys grow up~and partaking actively in their precious lives~

  1. So nice and so true. So many people will spend Christmas alone. And I also miss my grandma. She played a big role in my life, growing up. I wish she was still with us.

  2. I can relate to some of your little wax Jesus' aging issues ;)

So true what you say, Monique. Christmas can be a time for those who face Christmas alone or are missing their departed loved ones and others feel very stressed with the burden of gift-giving.

We are lucky we can connect to friends in an instant with the little keyboard and screen in front of us :)

    Merry Christmas, Monique!

  3. Holidays do bring a mixture of emotions. It is important that we take time to be thankful and appreciative of our blessings. It is also important that we take time to give, in some way, to those who are struggling during the season.

Thank you for the Soul Food this morning. May you have a blessed Christmas.

  4. You say it so well, Monique. Holidays are usually a blend of joy and sadness. It's amazing how the sight of some little precious thing can bring back so many memories and feelings of missing someone special.

  5. Ton petit Jésus est magnifique; il nous parle d'être fort comme lui devant une vie pleine d'obstacles. Your words speak of compassion that we all should practice at the time of the year.
Thank you for shaing him with us.

  6. Monique, I love your little Jesus. He's well loved and like all of us who've seen a few Christmases, he's full of character. What a treasure. Just like you! Happy holidays to you and your family.

  12. On devrait tous être heureux pour Noël et finalement les personnes seules sont encore plus seules ce jour-là, plus triste encore...
Une généreuse pensée pour elles... et peut-être un peu de notre temps...

    Beau noël

  15. Your Soul Food brought me 'peace', Monique. Missing my Mom but I know she is with me..always in my Heart.

Let's all take time to help someone during this special time...or just lend a smile to someone who seems down. I did this today and the elderly lady seemed very appreciative.

    Merry Christmas to all.....

  16. You are so right. This time of year, seeing everyone so joyful, only amplifies the feelings of sadness in some.

  17. Merry Christmas Monique, to you and your beautiful family. In this season of abundance, so many are reminded of their austerity, in all ways. Yesterday a friend relayed a saying that the late Elizabeth Edwards held close, "The cracks are what let the light in."

May we all see light....and peace in our lives. And thank you for being a shining light.

  19. Diane..I cut that quote out of a magazine while in Florida and read it to Jacques..It was Nate Berkus(sp?) who had repeated this quote of Elizabeth Edwards and it touched me.

    Have a great day everyone.

  20. What a beautiful message. Last night we had the 2 children who are still living at home get in the car and as we drove to see lights we brought out pieces of the nativity and had them hold them as I read from the scriptures about each one and we sang inbetween Christmas Carols. What a tender experience (and they were a captive audience!!) This post really touched me. Thank you sweet Monique.
