Oldies but Goodies~

This keeper recipe is Circa early 80's..I typed it out to save in 96..but I got this recipe..somewhere..early 80's~
It is one of my favorite cookies apart from shortbreads..and my daughter's Smores..
We all have fave choco chip cookie recipes..I have a stack..seems like when you are at someone's home throughout your life.. and there are fresh chocolate chip cookies ..you have one..and you need the recipe..
and the Neiman Marcus ones..etc..I have oodles of them and keep most..but this one is different.
The cookies can be made flatter with less flour.
The recipe makes enough to give away:)
I made 3 containers to give away..a bit flatter and added a bit more flour for ours..not much..but because I like them a bit drier and higher (not crisp..not hard..) just more oatmealy it seems this way..

In my recipe file they are called Great Cookies ♥ ..not very original but they are:)

La Recette~

1 cup of butter or margarine (we never have margarine)
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
Cream together then add:

1 1/2 tsp baking soda and a pinch of cream of tartar in a 1/2 cup of water and add to the above..
Then add:

1 1/2 cup of flour
2 1/2 cups of rolled oats
1 cup raisins
1 cup choco chips..(milk or semi-sweet)
You have pre heated your oven to 350 degrees
And prepped your cookie sheet with a silpat or parchment.
Form dough into balls.
Flatten lightly w/ fork.
Bake ap 10-12 mins.

Try them..Bet you can't eat just one..:)
If they flatten while baking..add a bit of flour before baking the next batch~

I don't drink enough milk..so I am trying to add some by having a café au lait..mid morning.:)
It's either closing my eyes and drinking half a glass fast  ..of milk..or softening it with a touch of coffee..
I think I have had 2 cups of coffee this summer.
It was just not a coffee type of summer~

PS..The apron is an easy do thanks to the Graphic's Fairy~  You can find the download here to print..
This is actually an artist's apron..but I brought the apron upstairs and just added spoons:)
It could be a cook's apron..or a gardening apron..
But this one was actually made to paint with..alone:)
You will need a printer for this project and Iron-On transfers..
I always cringe since I have messed so many up in the past..but this one worked very well~

September 1rst..Can we believe it?

"Try to remember the kind of September
When life was slow and oh so mellow
Try to remember the kind of September
When grass was green and grain so yellow
Try to remember the kind of September
When you were a young and a callow fellow
Try to remember and if you remember
Then follow--follow, oh-oh."

  10. I have my oldies but goodies too Monique. The tried and trues and the old faithfuls! These cookies look delicious. I like mine a bit drier and higher as you do. I prefer a cookie that is short and crunchy over a cookie that is flat and chewy.

Your photographs as always are breathtakingly beautiful. You have such a talented eye for photography. You always delight. Love you much! xxoo

  12. Summer did just fly by. I have realized that I do not like heat. By the end of August I am so tired of that tired feeling from steamy weather so when the calendar flips to Sept 1 I breathe a sigh of relief. Time to think of oatmeal cookies, changing leaves and cooler temperatures.

  13. Ooops! My fingers can't seem to spell this morning. No margarine in our kitchen either. These sound delicious and I think they'd make a glass of milk go down quite easily!

    Best,
    Bonnie

  15. You are right...I do have quite a few cookie recipes. I love the traditional cookies, the stand-bys that are always so tasty! Oatmeal, raisins and chips...you can't beat that especially with an ice cold glass of milk, as Bonnie mentions...

  17. Each year, the summer flies by...I wonder what it would be like to not have winter...would be feel differently. We enjoy the stand-bys very much. I use the Toll House chocolate chip cookie recipe from the bag of chocolate chips. I probably should have made them for my DH today since he returns to school tomorrow and is not thrilled about it ;o)

  18. One can never have too many chocolate chip cookie recipes. I love the oatmeal - choc chip variation. It reminds me of my dad and his love of cookies. Please tell me, Monique, how in the world do you keep the bottoms of your copper pots so perfectly polished. I use my copper every day and just can't keep ahead of the tarnish on the bottoms. One of these days I will try an iron on transfer.

  23. Oldies are so often the besties! Love your cookies, they remind me of coming home from school and having a wonderful aroma wafting through the screen door. My mom made something like this.
I don't drink enough milk either but having a big plate of cookies like these on hand would certainly solve that problem :)
