Potager~Salade..

Notre jardin ..2015/Journal~

Another reason I have loved blogging is that it is such a great time line/journal of what's happening in the gardens..
We don't have year round gardening here..the season starts about now~
Blooming are the scillas..pulmonarias..anemones..daffodils,ferns,forsythia.
I have already planted a few things..geraniums..pansies..cleomes..herbs..
M.Daoust told me I could.
And I believe him.
Our baskets are hung..and some of the garden ornaments are out..not many..I find they stick out like sore thumbs w/ out greenery etc..
But it's all coming along.
I think I cried here about a huge tree I loved having to be chopped down,,200 yr old double headed fir.
The huge stump drove me crazy last summer towards the end..and I had no idea what to do with that spot.
One morning Jacques suggested a raised bed for veggies..certainly enough sun..
So he ordered a kit..and installed it for me..
Frédérick went to get a truck full of earth..brought it and put all the earth in for us..♥
OMG God bless our son-in-laws. Alain helped take down that tree.

Thursday morning I decided to plant in six sections.
I have 3 tomato plants..cherry..yellow grape..and Pineapple heirlooms.
A purple pepper plant:) Said Peter Piper;)
Victoria Eggplant~
2 Borages.
Basil.
Italian Spinach...seeds..
Regular baby spinach.seeds..
Swiss Chard Bright Lights...seeds
Chives.
And French Radishes♥ seeds.I am smitten.S-M-I-T-T-E-N..
See my giddy garlic?
I love it.
It will be fun to try and grow some vegetables..It's not a big garden..just enough as I have the others to maintain.
The dahlia tubers I saved from last year were freaking me out not showing any sign of growth so I bought another bag of tubers..2 colors only this time.

See that salad?
I cannot wait to make it again for family.
I ate it as my meal..Jacques added BBQ'd sausages for him.
You can find this salad..From the book What Katie Ate.....at Penny's House..  Lake Lure Cottage Kitchen.
It's rather delicious..Come on..Couscous,chickpeas,toasted almonds,lemon,mint,pomegranates.
What is there NOT to love..just hope I can find another Pom..this one was  sooo small..but the seeds were gorgeous.
I know you will enjoy this spectacular salad.I kept picking at it♥
Thanks Penny!

Bon Weekend..
Happy Mother's Day..♥ I always always think of my mom..but Mother's Day..well I just wish I had had her so much longer ...
God gave us lovely daughters..and I see bits of maman in both of them.
Oh she would have been nuts about the Littles too.♥

  2. I can't believe another week has gone by and yes another year. Sounds like your little vegetable garden will be very productive. I imagine that all the garlic is the hardy kind so you should have scapes to add to your dishes or a bouquet of them curling and twisting. The garden is perking up fast. The salad sounds great. I will be celebrating with the girls and family and mother in law. Making your beet dish on puff pastry and pot de creme too. Maybe a Ricardo bread if the weather does not get crazy hot like they are saying. Bon weekend! P.S? Those almond cookies we both pinned were a big hit when I brought them to "the cookie taker".

My little house I am trying to sell is a wreck, but they are so happy to have sold their house and moved to Tulsa and into new home today. Sounds like all is well there, which is as it should be. 11. About a month ago I planted "French Breakfast" radishes from Burpee. I am so hoping they really look good when fully grown so I can take a picture and send it to Carol at Parisbreakfast. Her radish pics make me drool. You have a lot of planting done. Working on it gradually. Tomatoes done.

  20. I have many plants from the nursery but I don't have them in the ground yet. We had 85F on Thursday but chiller weather came in for the weekend with lows dropping down to 40F a couple of nights so I will wait to plant until it warms up again. I brought the really tender things inside for a few days to keep them warm :) I can't wait to see photos of your new garden area that Jacques and your SIL helped build and fill. What a great idea! I didn't have any luck growing radishes here - I hope you do. I have peas sprouting, lettuces, pansies and kale planted and growing strong, plus all of my containers filled and ready for the warm up ;) I am anxious! I love that tin with the saying on it. The salad is so beautiful with those jewels on it! Have a wonderful day with your girls :-)

  25. Oh, I am rejoicing right along with you, Nana! Your little stump garden sounds perfect- not too big, delightful choices - I have never, ever heard of Pineapple tomatoes! Bright Lights are so pretty, and so good! And borage - those little tiny blue stars, heaven! Boxes everywhere here, but it just rained and thundered, so I went out and danced in the rain - I hope you got it as well!

  27. Bonjour, Monique. I love reading all the names and the details in your garden journal & as always, seeing your photos. Here's the thing: I am in awe of the number of joyful & artistic things you are able to do each day!! And then to blog about it all & to share with us!! Double Joy!! Do you have a tip for one such as I who seems to not be able to work too quickly?
