Paint Nite~

Ok so obviously overhead lighting and an instagram filter on my daughters camera makes my hair look like I have grey roots..I don't..unless I never knew..oh the things we critically see in photos..picky picky picky.I'll have to talk to my favorite hairdresser♥

It is so much fun to sit w/ your daughters..doing this..
With great friends it would be just as fun.Check your Google for Groupons on Tuangos..

Above..Mary Engelbreight artwork from my calendar.

I received a fun gift from my daughters..an evening out w/ them and Paint Nite..have you heard of these?

Feb 29th we went..

Last year one of my daughters had suggested it and we never got around to going..this yr..they booked it:)

So we went early..had dinner there..and then sat down to a lovely 2 hour pint nite..lol I am leaving that typo there..but it was paint nite..it seemed to be a full house..
we each have our easels and aprons..I managed to get paint on me regardless:)We each get a palette and 3 brushes and a glass of water to rinse the brushes.
Acrylics are used..the teachers demonstrate the painting and we all paint along..differences were seen on all canvases..my ferris wheel was way too small..
my pier too short..
we see the errors:)
My daughters loved it and I can recommend this to you..even if you have never picked up a paintbrush..you may find yourself..buying art supplies.
One of my daughters doesn't play with paints..I think she left..quite loving it..she said she wanted to go back:)
That's how much fun it is..and both my daughters pieces were lovely!
interior shots..compliments of my daughters cellphones:)

Noah made Mylène hang hers up..in their living room..and Oli kept telling Frédérick..:"Isn't mommy good?:)" I agree! They both are.

When I came home.. I started thinking about it..once you have taken the class..it would be very easy for someone to do it in their home w/ good friends..just a few..wine..or tea..
cookies..maybe 2 or 3 friends:)
I saw these cookies and thought..these would be fun..and a bit creative too:)
So easy! No fuss no muss ..

The idea is simple..make your dough..chill 30 mins..roll out  and make the design w/ tines of a fork..glaze w/ egg wash (I should have but used my caramel glaze)..and bake..an egg wash shines more.
To serve simply put the baked circle of cookie in the middle of the table ..once cooled..and hit in the middle,or simply break apart..  ..pieces form..making the cookies quite artisanal looking  and delsih.I found the recipe here..and will write it out below..I love that French blog:)She got the recipe from here.
I bet not even the crumbs are left..you know how you get the munchies w/ art..and company.

I received that paint set above ..I was spoiled..and some paper and pens..
the paint set is so pretty..and I do like it very much.
Japanes..the box alone ..I keep it out..I bet if I had a plate rail in my craft room it would be full .With art supplies I like looking at;)

La Recette for the break aparts~
or cool artisinal cookies~

125 grams of sugar
 1 egg
 a pinch of salt
125 grams of softened butter I am a salted butter girl.
250 grams of flour.

Mix sugar and egg together until nice and creamy add the pich of salt..the softened butter,cream.. then the flour..until it foms a ball..
I made a disk and chilled 30 mins..I then rolled it out as you see it ap 1 cm thick..go for 1/4 inch about..brush w/ egg wash..bake in a pre-heated 350 F oven ap 25 mins.Could take a bit more..you don't want a soft cookie..keep a watchful eye;)

When cool break apart.
A nice little tea/coffee cookie.
And do try to enjoy a Paint Nite..they are popular everywhere.
I think we were well over 40..all age groups.I was the oldest for sure. But then maybe someone in her 50's the rest all late 20's 30's 40's.And young men too..One couple in front of me..so adorable.A match made in heaven. He said he came for her..he loved it.They were a cool looking artsy couple:)
In my mind's eye..I see so many of you doing this and having a ball.
Bon Weekend!

  3. Definitely a fun time! I especially love it that you and your daughters take time to play together. With busy lives, it is important to set aside specific time with those we love. Your ferris wheel paintings made me think of my recent night on Santa Monica Pier. '-)

  4. Your long hair - so pretty in the back! I love all of your bangles too :) Two years ago L & L took me to a paint night for my birthday! It wasn't a group paint night with the same subject being painted but at the same studio that does them. We each bought our own idea to paint and they served wine :) So much fun!! I loved it. Last year, they took me to a paint-your-own ceramic piece studio and they fire it in a kiln afterward. That was also so much fun. I love that our daughters do these things for us ♥ Love your calendar page :) The big break-apart cookie looks like the top of a gâteau basque! So pretty and delicious! I want to make one NOW.

  5. Your painting looks like it could be Myrtle Beach, SC. Looks so fun! One of my daughters and I went to a Sipping N' Painting class. We painted a bird. Had a great time with her. The funny thing is, she doesn't feel like she's creative at all, but wanted me to have fun while visiting. That was the coolest part!

  6. Looks like a real fun evening. Don't know if there's anything like that in the Limoge our nearest city. Life here is pretty rural, maybe I should try one of my own,
We do have a cookery evening to look forward to , our daughter gave it us as part of our Christmas present. That should be fun in so many ways , Language to start with, although we both understand French, we don't speak it fluently.

    1. M.France is not fluent?
I always imagined him to be..
Oh I hope you share the cookery outing.I would love that..to do one..
      Lovely thought from your daughter..
Gee..if you have it in you..and your guest house?
What fun to organize one..a good little business let me tell you:) And by 9PM..all have to get packed and leave..

      not bad..

  7. So sweet that you got to paint with your daughters. They have those places in the city and I think they are very popular. I can't wait to start painting again. Wish there wasn't so much going on. I guess I will have to have supplies at both places so I can paint when I want. I've come home to the farm for a week and have to play catch up, then back to the city and play catch up.

    1. You absolutely need your art supplies at both places..so when the mood and time is right..it will all be there..enjoy the farm this week..post away..fun to see there too!

  9. What a fun night for you and your girls Monique! I love that you do these things together. I agree, we are all very critical of ourselves. I miss so much living so far away. I am feeling a bit homesick this week. I think when we are ill we do. I love the looks and the idea of a break apart cookie. I'm afraid I would eat the whole thing though! Bad me! Love all that you share, always. xoxo

I just don't want you feeling out of sorts over this..it was a bday present:)
Lately Mother's Day we do something just us too.
But normally..when we are together..parts of family or all are with us..
I think you would love doing this w/ you know who:)

    2. I would love to do this with you know who! Oh Monique, I hope I didn't make you feel bad about enjoying time with your family, that wasn't my intent! I am truly happy that you get to do these things! One day I will get to do them too, hopefully before I am too old to enjoy them! It will come at a price however and I dread that part. Why can't we just have everything? xoxo

    3. You? Make me feel bad? NO..you lift everyone up:)
Sometimes I worry if it is bragging to talk of this outing..;)
I realize wholeheartedly how you would love your children closer and I would never want you to feel bad..

      a fine pair we are..LOL

Maybe in a few years I can do this with my girls, once Lillian does not need to be nursed every few hours. Your cookie looks great. Doesn't Dori Greenspan have something similar in her baking cookbook? Enjoy the weekend. Have a great weekend.
