He's wearing his neck warmer on his head;) I love Littles..they never worry about what looks perfect.I loved it..and that child is NEVER cold..like his dad..NEVER.

Snowshoeing in all this the last 3 days..Heaven..that's what heaven must be like..but warm:)

Time for tea after snowshoeing.. I love my 2.30-3 .30 winter ritual.I do have more Laura Secord hot choc for our Keurig on order though;)

A couple of Valentine..desserts~
Or any day desserts really..

I follow the Topless Blaker on Instagram..such a talented smart baker!
When he showed this tart I knew I had to try. It's a sablé breton base..jam in the centre on top..then these stabilized whipped cream..littles wings all around and fresh barries on top..I should have used my heart mold..a few sprigs of mint would be pretty..or real strawberry leaves..

Next one!
You can find the recipe and tutorial here..
It's a keeper.

The other one I tried..  was also through an Instagrammer..Cupcake Jemma..I have just found her..she made the cutest rose/pistachio Battenberg Cake..so cute I had to try..I don't have a Battenberg loaf pan..so I modified an 8x8..and ..well it didn't work..the halfway partition stayed..but the cross ones ..to make them x 6..collapsed midway..I rescued it..and the taste is good although I made modifications to use what I had on hand..but I think having the correct pan would make a HUGE difference..it's just too expensive.I'm 64 ..how many more mini Battenbergs am I going to make?;)Not many..  cute cute but not OMGEE so good I have to keep making them!

I love the whole look of Battenbergs..one caveat here was that my icing is bright..pink..and when you bake a cake w/ pink..I find it is often..peachy..so the colors are not gorge together.
Oh well..
This was the cake I brought for our dinner w/ Noah♥He's up there..outside his school when we picked him up  to have dinner with him..he LOVED the cake and was so appreciative:)

Here is her BEAUTIFUL cake and recipe~

Nothing short of magnificent is our borrowed landscape. The last 3 days have seen us snowshoeing in all that beauty.

It's as wonderful as being on a pristine beach..on your own.
The beauty of nature.

If any of you feel like trying out an interesting..relaxing art tutorial..go to Anna Mason..and do the free pear tutorial..you don't need much..paper..4 colors of paint.. few round pointy tip brushes..takes a couple of hours, but I am going to watch it again..it's not my way of painting..but I love it and want to learn to be more realistic..all styles are fun to learn.
This is a hobby for me..one I love.
You can find the link here..

Have fun..I can see a few of you LOVING this!
It was suggested  to me by an artist I admire very much!

Winter can be very rough here with a lot of ice..snow..cold..and this one has been..
This guy..clears the cars..mine..some snowbanks are higher..no kidding..and we have lovely paths all around..to the front out back..to the potting shed..so pretty and neat .The snow is halfway up my arbours..the front fence the top is peeking out..the larege white obelisks are just peeking ou too..I won't even talk about our front..you would not believe the snow:)
He never complains about the snow at all.I would be so complaining..I would be whining about my chores..no kidding. Not him.

If you want to get teary eyed..

Not sure if you have seen it..

She's something♥

Have a lovely weekend~And Happy Vday on Wednesday~

  5. That landscape is magnificent! I went snowshoeing for the first time last week in Colorado. I never realized what hard work it is! Of course doing it in really thin mountain air probably didn't help. Even my young daughters were tired :) That made me feel a bit better. That Noah is too cute, love the "hat"!

    1. I lent my xcountry skis to Lucas 2 seasons ago..and have not really missed them yet.Snowshoeing is hard in depths of snow..in this area..our borrowed landscape..a trail is made part way..tapping it down for skiers..so we tend to go off the beaten track a bit..it is exhilarating..and I love it.On a day like in the photos..it is very spiritual:)♥I bet you had fun w/ your girls!

  6. Our 8-year-old just arrived a little while ago ;) Love Noah's gator. That's they way they were them in the ski areas too, both neck and head. We learned that form our Jackson Hole experts ♥. Love, love, love both cakes! I looked at Topless Baker's video but couldn't find the recipe for the sable breton. Maybe I didn't watch carefully enough. Gorgeous Battenburg cake also with the macarons decor! You find the prettiest ideas, Mme. M!! We've had a VERY snowy February so far. Hope to take Mack snow tubing or for a ski lesson tomorrow AM. Glad that the ski hills are able to remain open. Oh, look at the snow on your little car!! I spy another cozy ;) We need cozy right now ♥

  7. Oh Noah... Love your chocolate time and cozy. Love the pear painting. I did one once and it was harder than I thought. I ruined the shadow underneath it so it is stuck in a pad somewhere. I can't imagine all that snow. I've never even been skiing. Snowshoeing must be exercise. I'd need snow planks. Keep warm.

Good for you to be skiing - such a beautiful site for sure. We have rain - tons of rain and dreary dark skies - days and days of rain. Perhaps we'll have a gorgeous spring! 15. First of all that elderly Irish woman, what a sweetheart. Tugged on my heart strings for sure. Everything you share is so beautiful Monique. Your tart, such patience on your part. I bought some blueberries and raspberries the other day and they were so sour, I could not eat them. I will have to use them for cooking. Your wee grandson is so handsome and looks very confident. LOVE LOVE LOVE that bluebird mug. Wherever did you find that. I adore bluebirds. Your pear is so well done. I have been working on the tutorial myself and my pear thus far is quite laughable, lol. I will persevere, as you say a completely different way of painting watercolours! Your snow, so much of it! Brrr... I don't think I could handle Canadian Winter's anymore! I am a winter wimp now! And I know Todd could not cope at all. Love and hugs. xoxo

    1. I am a cold wimp..Oh it's true that it will be over soon..and I don't want to be south for the winter..but the cold is bad and maintenance of course..Spring and Fall..more maintenance..I was in my 40's when we built here..invincible..lol..sadly that is not true..and now 60's and 70's....but he still says he loves it here..in this place..in this house..almost daily..well on sunny days. That's what matters. He told me it's exercise for him..he's always loved that.

      That mug... drumroll..Varage Sale.♥
I find it special too..it is made for Pier One Imports..or was..second hand but brand new.
I guess people get gifts and sell them?

I bet your pear is so pretty!!It is a different way isns't it..contrary to your new book I mentioned that we love..no bleeds..but still interesting..have tried a few more..not pears..apples etc..not as well on my own..Have a great day!
