This Is Us~ Superbowl Sunday~

I made a delicious soup for any cabbage lover..Cabbage Beef soup found at Café Delites.I had made her  Crispy Baked Shrimp about 1 week  before..and they were so good..I thought I would give her soup a try..absolutely delicious.I simmered mine longer..wanted my beef very tender..and I added a pinch of sugar..this is a tip a delightful octogenarian taught me in Fl..over 20 yrs ago..she was entertaining for Happy Hour at least twice a week..and often for dinners..one night she made us beef and barley soup..as a starter lol..and told me..:"a pinch of sugar for soups such as these make a subtle delicious difference"..she was right.Evelyn..if you can see me from up there..I am doing it..and have been..
Perfect Superbowl Soup Fare:)

I've been stitching..and reading..
I did enjoy the Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry..my books..current reading are on the right toolbar..it was ok good..that's good..for me..:)

On the other hand..just finished Ruth Reichl's book..and I am not a fan.99 pages..it's a quick read...but I was left feeling that she had already talked about her mom in other books..I have read most..and ..so..this one was not necessary.
You know..I lucked out w/ my mom..she was an accomplished artist..smart as all get go..  never once did she give us the impression her life could have been better had she pursued her dreams. She never even said dreams..we all knew she went to Beaux-Arts..we all knew she was very talented..but not because she told us so.

Never..nada..

And trust me..her life wasn't all rainbows and roses.

A mom..who loved her family..more than anything and never failed to demonstrate it.

She was made for a painter's apron..yet wore the kitchen one tirelessly and never ever a word of complaint.

My dad used to call her Grace Kelly:)
Lol he had better;)

Above..where my little card is being painted..I do love that palette..it's got ripples..I follow a talented artist on IG and on the web..Jessica Seacrest..she does product reviews and sometimes shows some of her tools..one day she showed this palette.I was smitten..It's my go to at home.

It's a MEEDEN RECTANGULAR WAVY Palette..:)
Amazon.com.

Fun things to add to your artist tools..

meanwhile I had a viewfinder..that I misplaced..found..and have msiplaced again..
DRIVING me nuts..

But..I did find old 35mm slides.. while looking for my viewfinder.. wow do I ever look different from 20 to 64:(
So funny..we are critical of ourselves..and then we look back and think..geesh..you were fine.

Just fine..really..it's fine:)

So  yes This is This Is Us Day and Superbowl Day..there are only 4 reasons that can make me watch football.
The alphabet boys..♥

And they have to be playing.

Bon Dimanche~

  1. The soup looks wonderful. A pinch of sugar - who knew?!

  2. If I remember correctly, Tender at the Bone-Ruth's first book contained a great deal about her mother. Here, with snow coming down, we (including Oliver) are celebrating the Super Bowl by not watching. S.B. Sunday for us is all about the food anyway.

    Best.

  3. Soup, crochet, painting - it all looks divine. Need to go see what you are reading. I made a loaf of bread for Sue who turned 90 yesterday and I couldn't get the paper off, so I left it on. Oh well. Hope it tasted good. I am going out to get new measuring spoons as I use my hands and that worries me.

    1. Oh no!!That is a shame😢I thought you might have many measuring spoons..vintage too❤️

    2. Never been an exact cook, but I know bread is different. I sprayed that paper too and it still stuck. I figured it would be better to leave it on than rip it off and the crust too. I don't know where all my measuring spoons have gone to.

  4. What a wonderful way to spend a snowy day ♥ I've been doing a little of everything. Snow here too - about 4 inches of new stuff. We have Mack next weekend and at least there will be snow if we wants to ski or do the tubes like Dane :) I am a cabbage lover and can't wait to try her soup! Her shrimp looks wonderful too. What a wonderful peach colored yarn and it matches your tea cup! We will likely be driving home from a SB party when This is Us is on. My DVR had better be working! LOL. Love your Football Boys and your new palette ♥

  8. Oh, the soup will be on our menu! Looks like our kind of dish!
I'll be watching Victoria, about to start any minute. I did take a peek at the game. The Eagles are ahead. I'm pulling for the Eagles and Nick Foles. So proud of this young man that I remember fondly as a great kid in first grade. Like your Alaphabet Boys, these kids touch our hearts, and it's heartwarming to see them successful as adults.

  10. I'll have to try that soup! Yummy stuff. My grandmother always put a little sugar in cabbage dishes, she said it cut down on the issues cabbage can sometimes cause - haha. We love it! Love your handsome team too :)

  12. Love your card, Monique! Your Mom... sounds like a wonderful and talented woman and the apple did not fall far from the tree. A pinch of sugar in the South is considered a staple for seasonings in almost all veggies. LOL. I've mostly stopped though, as sugar has been portrayed as Satan in our modern diet. Mostly. ;) Your team is just too precious! Go, alphabet boys! Have a wonderful week! blessings ~ tanna

    1. I know Satan:) Makes me smile when I know of people living into their 90's on a steady diet of it..;)
      And living well..
      I'm a slat snacker..not a sweet snacker..but sweets are so much prettier aren't they?
It's is unbelievably gorgeous here this morning after quite abit of snow..blue blue skies..but cold..the trees..are magic:)

  13. A perfect soup on a chilly day. It was warm and balmy here. Jim played golf in the morning and then we spent the afternoon outside. Football does not interest me, (unless the little one took it up😊) so Jim watched the game while I occupied myself elsewhere in the house. I have heard of adding a little sugar to spaghetti sauce, but have never tried it in soup. Good to know! Lovely memories of your Mom. She no doubt was a beautiful soul, as are you!😘

    1. Yes to spaghetti sauce too:) She was.. of cours eI was 19..so my memories have slipped away in many aspects..and we build on these memories..I was in the car yesterday with one of my daughters and I tld her I thought she and her husband were great parents..I felt choked up inside for one moment because these are words I would have loved to hear.
You don't get it when you still have a mom..lol..

I know she is happy when I say it..but..having never heard it myself..I am more sensitive about the great compliment♥

I can see you becoming a cheerleader lol ..:)♥If..and when..he takes it up:)

  14. Your card is just enchanting! What a beautiful face. And you are so right about our being hard on ourselves way back then -- and gee, don't you wish you had a little of that back? Maybe not -- but I do (but keeping the wisdom and lessons I learned along the way!)

Like you, I feel very lucky I had the mom I did. She was clever, creative. I am definitely my mother's daughter. Yours sounds like just the best. And see, she gave such a great example -- look at her daughter!

Your yarn -- so pretty. Love those color and your tea cup too!

    1. Fun to paint whimsy since perfection is beyond my reach:) These Fancy Lassie type faces..well tiny doesn't work..but larger..you can get away with a lot:)
Misfits..they are misfits:) Not Kate Thompson's but mine..still have not finished the class loads of material..and videos..have to refresh..

Yep..we had great moms Miss Jeanie..
Oh yes I would have liked to know more back then..

lol so young w/ my first baby..in the hospital..they kept bringing in interns for teaching..I am telling you..NOT on my life now.
      I would say NO.

Just my dr and nurse please..
      Oy.
We have to listen to our instincts..that would be my number one game changer.
And even 9 yrs ago..I still wasn't paying attention..trying to be nice..I like nice but it's overrated in certain situations;)
      Have a great afternoon:)

  18. Have never heard that about sugar! I will try sometime - she sounds like a wonderful, wonderful lady, your Mom. Beautiful colorful photos, as always - I'm inhaling the scent and color of those flowers - thank you for feeding my cabin fever/sick of winter blues:)

  19. That soup is calling my name! I will have to give it a go! It looks delicious. Love the photos of your alphabet boys. To watch the Superbowl, we would have to be up in the middle of the night here. BY the time we get to watch it, the winner is already known, so why bother I feel. Love the halftime show however and pick that up on Youtube. I love it when you write about your mum. I can feel the love there. So special. Mums, and being mums, is a special gift from God I believe. It is a calling like no other and when it is magnified like your mum did and yourself, etc. it is a very beautiful thing. Not all do this, but thankfully most do.♥♥♥ Your needlework and your art, so precious. Love it when you share. Hope your Wednesday is a beautiful one! xoxo

PS - Your alphabet boys. So handsome. Ladykillers all!
