End Of June~ Canada Day Weekend Gardens~

Pond/Fairy Garden~

All the stages in one bunch♥

Sun Sugar first to show flowers..Hi Pea!!

On their last breath most of them:(~

So we caught up well..

Lots gone already ..still some to happen..

It's a lot in 3-4 months..

a lot of prep..a lot of care..a lot of upkeep..

When my girls were young..

I had flower boxes and half barrels lol..period.

All the same flowers..impatiens..tuberous begonias geraniums.
Had no clue what to do.

It's when we moved in 86..that I started getting into it..

Our girls were 11 and 9..so maybe a few years after.

I met a friend who inspired me so much..she had been a client..and my first ever manager Rosemarie Faber.
They gave me my first love of gardening..

And so I started and had beautiful goutweed and grasses and obedient plants..all of which are not obedient;)

But wow the profusion..Got rid of all that..well meaning gardeners had offered me some..what the heck did I know..
Our home at that time was on a garden tour in AUGUST.
By then my gardens were done..parched and ugly.

NEVER AGAIN.

Then we moved in 2001..
to here..
and I met Gardenbuddies♥
And my love of gardening..and buddies online..blossomed.

And here I am..lots of mistakes..would do so many things differently.
But at 65 I am not starting over ..LOL..

I have added loves..

Too many;)

One of them..garlic..
I collected the first batch of scapes and chopped many and froze..

then a friend of my daughters suggested garlic scape pesto♥
On pasta..ohmygosh good.
I used the NYTimes recipe w/ sunflower seeds.
Have a great weekend and Happy  Canada Day to us and 4rth of July to our friends across the border~

  1. Rich and abundant is your life in the garden, (and the kitchen, the studio, the hearth and home!) First hints of summer are arriving in Maine. The gentle rain is as if a giant watering can gets tipped up in the sky once in awhile, and then set upright again. Happy Canada Day!

I just love it all..Have not painted much..took my oils out..so messy..big tubes little drawings lol☺️

  2. Oh, to walk in your garden, Monique. This post is the next best thing to actually being there. I know it is sheer delight! Your gardening skills are stellar. I can hardly call myself a gardener. My beds are mostly evergreen with a touch of annuals within pots among them and filled pots on the terrace. My front beds which get more sun are mostly prennials and the added annuals as needed, but annuals don't last long in the TX heat and restricted water schedule.
Thanks for this lovely end of June tour!

    1. After all these years I am still such a novice Sarah but thank you for the sweet compliments.Things look best when Jacqyes has just mowed and I have trimmed☺️🙏🏻Sometimes I think it would have been smart to hire someone to guide ma but we've always done things on our own..all the grass was seeded..soil laid..hedges planted..Fred and the girls helped with the earth and hedges☺️☺️
But in retrospect clean boxwood here and there..less cottage more formal..less maintenance🙄🙄
C'est la vie.And it has gotten me and still gets me through less than stellar times..a blessing really.Nature wows me.

  7. Dearest Monique,
You might have to wait for quite a while till the weather becomes garden friendly (did not say 'weed friendly!') but here it is; quite a show. LOVE those pink roses all stages in one bunch!
Great story and yes, over the years we've tended several gardens too. For me personally that is four... but we kind of gave up.
The dream of having Baccarat (got lots of them) vases filled with fragrant roses from the garden has kind of disappeared and we only have the photos of better years. Trees grow taller and they WIN from the roses... taking all their goodies and water away.
    Enjoy your Canada Day weekend!
    Hugs,
    Mariette

Still not quite over that nasty bronchitis from Bulgaria... am posting our lovely trip now.

  8. I will go see re your tips..:)Thank you..Yes trees suck the wtaer right out of the soil.We are in a clay area on a building lot that is sheer sand..so the water filters away in no time..and the tress take a lot..Big big trees. But we have cleared sunny areas..however always on water bans.If I water I have to do it by hand.
It has rained more this yr and the gardens show it..Jacques just said: Look at that red flowering bush back there..lol way back there..I said ..you put it there about 5 yrs ago..I never water back there it's too far for the hoses..anyway because of the rain..it's finally blooming.Bloomers need sun and rain.
I have just had my first cold in years..an Oli cold. Not pleasant.I remember now what coughing is all about.
    Thank God,these things ..pass.:)
    Take care..

  10. It is so wonderful to watch the comings and goings of our gardens. I wish I would have thought about what it would be like to tend huge garden beds at 'a certain age'! At least we have a young man this year to help with the weeding but with all the rain interruptions there is still much more to do. If you look at our 14-day forecast, 12 of them have rain cloud icons on them :( At least we have warmer temps and a sunny day today and I am grateful. Don't you just love the first flush of roses before 'those that shall remain unnamed' arrived? I'm hoping our brutal winter may have killed some of their larvae :) Oh, look at Sun Sugar!! I hope you love her as much as I do...they are so tasty! I spy Arabella too :) I have to pick the rest of my scapes and get them frozen! I can't wait to try that pesto. Did you make a freeze the pesto also or did you simply freeze the chopped scapes? Happy Canada Day, Pea!

Pea..I will love Sun Sugar..she did the best as a seedling too..Bumblebee has flowers now:) Alain came over this AM w/ Mylène and Noah and said Oh my God look at all your tomato plants and garlic:)
My real name must be Monica :)I still have tomatoes in pots for when I take the garlic out lol..
      Roadside stand;)

Have a great 4th dear US friend..did I tell you Arlene is coming by?
      Gardenbuddies last forever;)

    2. Great, I'll try both too! I've harvested about 42 scapes and have more that aren't fully developed yet. Hopefully, we'll have both have a bountiful crop of tomatoes this summer :) I can wait for that first BLT. That is so awesome that Arlene is visiting!! Many fond memories of GBs in the early days. ♥

  14. Happy Canada Day Monique! I think your gardens are magnificent! You have a real talent there! I do not, however much I love to look at them, I am too lazy methinks. Oddly enough our clematis have not bloomed this year? Not one whit! Do they take years off??? If so this is their year off. Third year in a row we have no fruit on our trees at all. Usually the pear gifts us in abundance, but this year no, no, no. That frigging palm tree however continues to reach for the stars! Its like a weed, but a lot harder to pull. LOL I will have to plant garlic. YOU better remind me, lol. Love and hugs, xoxo

It's about to pour soon but CD is tomorrow..not sure when the festivities are..we stopped attending anything 100 yrs ago lol;)
