Fall...
Aconitum..monkshood is last to bloom here..
Poisonous..so beware:)
We have 2 lovely crabapple trees and one on our borrowed landscape..
Those blossoms turn into cute little hard as rock apples until they fall on the ground and some get mushy..SOOOO many this yr..
Pelting rain..much cooler..falling leaves.. All of a sudden hier après-midi..fall is happening after a neverending summer.
One of the beauty days we had burgers on the BBQ.We make all the patties with several ings not purists here.. and freeze them ..One thing we have discovered..is that home made buns are best.
I vary recipes..
This one was good..you can find it here..
Bread machine is my way for sooo many doughs..not for actual baking...
Speaking of which..I made a challah recipe I have made before.. you can find the recipe here.. but I fashioned it this way.
T..my friend ..often sends me posts she thinks I will enjoy or we would both enjoy..this was one of them..She is a great bread baker on her own..and I am grateful for her links:)
When the boys were Littles..I decorated for Halloween..now..no..lol just a few touches..I do wish I had fall fabric for the porch swing and wicker furniture..We have one fabric store.. ap 20-25 mins away. and if you are not a member you pay so much more.I'd love a JoAnn's or Hobby Lobby here.More affordable. My next Hobby Lobby trip a few meters of fall.
OMGEESH the cost of things now is ridiculous.
Nothing is $1.00 at our dollar stores.. I know it's now $1.25 in the US..but here? Many items are now $4.00 ..many many many many..most.
This is small scale..Home! Rents! Food! What is happening? How will all our littles be able to manage?
And with AI?
What about that..
Covid changed so much..pre-covid..things were not as pricey..
Travel must be through the roof..Staying put.
Time to gather your herbs and make bouquets garnis again:)
I took the opportunity of making several when I brought in my herbs to make the bread.. ..they have to dry before I tuck them in a jar.
Froze lots of things for winter..I'll be glad to pull out a bag of leeks and make soup:)Tomato starters..hrebs..basil especially..pestos..
All of it.
Home Sweet Home.
So grateful .
For my Family .
Fitting..it's Thanksgiving weekend here.
Take care..
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. What are your traditions? Certainly the cost of things has gone up. I went to a mall yesterday with my daughter and oldest grandson to shop for a winter coat for him. That was an eye opener. I do go to the Dollar Tree. I buy lots of cards there. We lost our JoAnn Fabrics years ago but I am a regular at Hobby Lobby. So much fun to just look plus think of all the steps we get in, that store is huge. Do you have a store called HOMEGOODS? That is a dangerous place, hard to leave without purchasing something which is usually not needed. Take care and have a good week.
ReplyDeleteAhh.. yes we do have HomeGoods..Called HOMESENSE here..Marshall's..Winners(TJ MAXX)..all the fun stores..Except Trader joe's and Hobby Lobby..
DeleteTraditions ..we get together as a family and eat:0 Great food ,warm homes... Fun.I love getting together all of us:) The best:) Bon Dimanche Ga!
Happy Thanksgiving, Monique! I can almost smell your beautiful breads. When I was younger, my mom had a recipe for making a big batch of dough that went into the refrigerator. We were able to form enough rolls for our meal, let them rise, then bake. I think she got about 4 - 5 meals worth out of her recipe. Good memories. Having warm, fresh bread is a blessing.
ReplyDeleteI was just talking to my daughter and one of her friends about the rising costs of housing--even in our rural areas. We are grateful that our kids have been able to purchase homes with a few acres, but we do wonder what the future holds. We have seen properties rise 3-4 times over what we would have paid 5 years ago. Crazy. I sure hope we saved enough for retirement, lol!
I love Dollar Tree. My store is $1.25 per item, but I know many stores have raised prices. I pick up gift bags, cards, party supplies, and craft items for the grands there. And disposable baking pans for when I'm making things to take out. Last year, I got the most wonderful heavy-duty foil pie containers with decent lids. Sorry, I could go on and on...
Continue to enjoy the change of seasons, Monique. Blessings to you and your friends and family!
Thank you Pam:) Yes here also house prices have escalated so much.I am happy our family own their own homes too..Hope the Littles will be able to.I also hope we saved enough what seemed ok 3 yrs ago has decreased exponentially.Happy we have a home..
DeleteLove your Dollar Trees..No Florida anymore but when we vacationed there we always went:)
Your memory of your mom's bread is heartwarming.
But then again everything you say is.
Thank you.
Happy Thanksging dear Monique. Look at Sunbrella fabrics for outdoor furniture. A bit more expensive but oh so durable. This is a poem by Margaret Atwood about crab apples. I love it. Hope you do as well. X
ReplyDeleteApple Jelly
No sense in all this picking,
peeling & simmering
if sheer food is all
you want; you can buy it cheaper.
Why then do we burn our hours
& muscles in this stove,
cut our thumbs to get these tiny
glass pots of clear jelly?
Hoarded in winter: the sun
on that noon, your awkward leap
down from the tree,
licked fingers, sweet pink juice,
what we keep
the taste of the act,
taste of this day.
It's one of the most beautiful poems and goes straight to my heart:) Thank You.
DeleteI am lucky that our furniture on that front open porch never gets rained on.. I think I change the fabric on the cushions avert 5 yrs:) Snow does drift on in heavy winds..but I have not removeable cushions there is winter.I will however look into that fabric.I think our fave umbrella on the beach in Fl was a Sunbrella:)Happy Thanksgiving Jane:)xo
Happy Thanksgiving. I am sure your family gathering will be special. Your bread looks too pretty to eat. We have plenty of shopping here. Maybe order some fabric online, there are lots of options.
ReplyDeleteNow that could be a solution..Thank you!
DeleteHappy Thanksgiving, Monique! I hope it's a wonderful day and celebration. Just a guess, but I have a feeling you will all eat very well indeed! These photos are marvelous. I couldn't agree more about burger buns -- homemade are definitely best. Speaking of hamburger and prices, I thought I'd buy some yesterday but it was outrageously expensive. There are some things I notice price on and others not so much. Meat has really gone up. Rick complains about it all the time. I don't worry too much about the complaining as I really have no choice -- buy it or don't buy it! Gas seems up-and-down, depending on the day. Costco is usually 20 cents less. I don't understand it! Your harvest photos are beautiful and always your garden. Have you ever submitted your work to Bella Grace? I should think they (and anyone else) would snap it up!
ReplyDeleteLovely wishes today!
No:) I have not..I even forget which magazine that is.I don't want to appear ungrateful but I am not into submitting :)Lol..competitions..etc..not into it..30 yrs in real estate..enough already:) Plus what if they said no lol?Not that I am sensitive..LOLOLOLOL.We get our gas at Costco too..well J does sometimes I just go closer to home..Hamburger meat Costco..That Costco and Amazon..yikes..most of ours shopping ..Thank you for your TG good wishes:)
DeleteHappy Thanksgiving, Monique! Joyeuse Action de Grace! We're having a beautiful weekend here. Actually, we've seen more consecutive days of sunshine this week than during our entire summer of travel across Canada. It's good to be home and we'll be celebrating with the family. They organized it all! Your breads look delicious.
ReplyDeleteThe world is in a sorry state just now. All we can do is be kind to each other and make our little corners as full of peace and joy as possible.
I agree! Happy TG to you:) I saw your pies..beauties..Sad sad Israel. My God how can such cruelty exist..? Ukraine..I agree let us spread kindness wherever we can.Whenever we can.Say the nice words you are thinking..tell your family you love them..all of it:)
DeleteGorgeous challah! Happy Thanksgiving to your and your wonderful family, Monique! Your burger buns look fabulous! I just saved another recipe..but would love to try the bread machine ones that you made also. We used to have crab apple trees too. So pretty in spring but fall, not so much with the mess! Cut them down but they were very old. We have the same weather. The rain came and the temps dropped :( Frost warning tonight!!! OY. I think we'll be okay...I checked the hourly forecast. Seriously, though? Your wreath. ♥
ReplyDeleteThank you:) Oh that wreath has seen better days;)..But thank you.No frost warning yet but the tall cosmos got the kiss of ill health with this pelting rain.I do hope I get to gather zinnia seeds..none have come to seed yet!We just love our bread machines don't we? Grateful for all our years Susan:):):xo
