It snowed.. will snow..

Snow season....

There's a kind of hush...

The Sounds of silence...

Tis the season..

I love that my husband loves making prosciutto..pizzas and wine;)Stellar risottos and delish BBQs.Those are his specialties.

This years batches have begun..he makes different kinds and some are reserved for the girls families..we are never bored.. We find time flies by so fast!

Meanwhile..I'm back at painting my little French people:)
Inventing stories in my head for Instagram.

These three in particular are painted gleaned from  Geni's photos..I've linked her here before:) She is @geeparee22 on IG.She moved from Paris to the Riviera and is enjoying the warmer weather and blue skies.

I haven't snowshoed a lot....I have merely made paths to the ski trails..and paths to the road from the propane tanks and generator.
The people in charge of filling the tanks must have access..We are on large lots ..Cannot expect them to walk through deep snow to get to them.
Visions of sugarplums are gone..tree still up..
we like the fairy lights..next weekend I will pack up I think:)
Visions of gardens are now occupying my brain..where to plant which seeds..how to fix some gardens..

Going to bake some bread..try a new chicken brochette air fryer recipe..and refresh the paths..
Winter in QC:)
Have a nice week:)

Meanwhile my recipe book nook..has new art :)

Tea and coffee..from the brilliant Carol Sweet NY card:)

I keep my books here and there..

to the left of my recipe book nook

I still keep an old painting I did of our home and the wonderful she shed of ours painting Susan made  for me.
I was lucky to find the same frame years later..
Looking for new frames for Carol's watercolors..:)

PS..I am recommending this Neflix series 100%

  1. I like how you made the first group of snow photos all the same hue. We had a winter wonderland day at camp, and the woodstove is cranking. Have a nice week.

  2. Wow....both of you are talented cooks. Bravo for the prosciutto J ! My father used to make it. Delicious 😋 Do you have a special pizza oven ? When I moved from Toronto alas just cannot find great pizza here. The last good pizza was made by my cousin at the far. Artichoke and olives. It is hard to believe we still have at least four months of winter left. Do glad the Riviera people are returned

We finally got our snow and today windchill temps of -39. School has been cancelled so my family is enjoying their time together. Thinking of Balconville🌼. Have a cozy week.

  6. Hello from the Midwest Tundra! Golly, I'd forgotten what subzero temps felt like. So glad you have your beautiful cover of snow. When you mentioned paths to your propane tank, it spurred me on to trek out to ours. Whew! What a relief to get back inside.

I have always admired your Riviera People! I try to imagine what their faces might look like and where they've been and where they're going.

Three cheers for husbands who cook! God love them. BTW, my husband has been receiving therapy for his right hand, and I am confident he'll be manning the grill soon, too. Answered prayers, for sure.

Enjoy the beauty that surrounds you, Monique, and thank you for sharing it with all of us!

  7. I love that Jacques is still making his prosciutto! I hadn't seen it for a while and had wondered if he stopped.
Bravo to your all-around good cook, J! I love seeing your IG People again! During the holidays there is so much else to do with the shopping, wrapping, decorating, baking., etc., etc.,! Right now, the Sounds of Silence for certain! What lovely, peaceful photos with the Dream sparking ideas in our heads. ♥ I've already ordered some seeds and have some new dahlias I want to order too. I love that we never tire of new ideas. Martin Luther King Day here in the U.S. It's -2F right now and going down to -10F tonight! I feel so sorry for my grandsons and all the other kiddos who don't have school today because of the holiday but they can't get outdoors to ski or sled due to frostbite risks. Poor parents - LOL.

I love your Riviera people and especially love seeing your cookbook nook and the wonderful paintings, too. Your photos -- lovely as always. That nest especially. Keep cozy up there! And dream of lilacs and daffodils and all things colorful and lovely!

  9. Monique, "the sound of silence" still a favorite all these years later. I had Simon and Garfunkel on earlier. Winter is here, and the garden will be in long recovery through the coming months. I always think it's a shame that a few days here and there do such damage and cause a lot of work before and after. Our winters are becoming more severe as are our summers. That said, I love seeing your beautiful snow photos. I think snow is it's own beautiful silence.
My White By the Gate camellia bushes are covered in gorgeous white blooms. I didn't cover, they are so large, but I cut a few yesterday to bring inside. Too late! They were brown within an hour. Today I see that most have turned brown. What a shame! Mother Nature rules!
My tree is still up, just the lights. Ornaments are packed and stored. I need help taking the tree down, so waiting for my helper. Still, I enjoy the twinkling lights.
I love seeing your recipe book nook, and of course your Riviera People with your clever stories. Again, I say. I wish you would make these images and stories into a book.
Stay warm, keep dreaming of that spring garden.
I baked marinated chicken breasts tonight. Delicious! Our local grocery is hosting a Citrus Fest, and were selling these. I rarely cook anymore.

  10. I LOVE your conjugation, your snow-fields, your inestimable Chef Husband, and all the paintings---I think of those as Walkaways, and it's getting to be like awaiting the next chapter of a lovely book, and being rewarded with the most sumptuous pictures and colours and words. The honor of being included in those small portraits must be great as sitting for the Masters, in a more personal and companionable way.

And just reading of your garden has warmed my hands and heart---even our decades-ago Southern garden, with its chance of snow varying from dust to none to send-the-school-buses home and pick up milk and bread---those gardens were dreams amongst the dry grass and sleeping rows as we eagerly pored over the Burpee and Park catalogs. My Mississippi Mammaw had a long correspondence with both, back in the days of she wrote-in-ink of her garden doings, and the temperature's small variance, and someone at both companies typed out long letters just for her, about the hunt for a white marigold or a bigger-than-dinnerplate dahlia. Those catalogs were our calendars, our dream-books, our hope of warmth to come, with the discussion of seeds and shoots and sunlight running back and forth for a 3-cent stamp.

And I love your PEOPLE, the folks who write to you and admire and share and comment, cheer you on and sympathize with each other over misses and fallen cakes and lost causes and grief. I read every single comment every time, soaking up the places so scattered, and the people so close. Even moving the cursor over the page sprinkles every guest, every friend, every thought with little stars, as if Juliet were sharing Romeo with the heavens on a dark night.

Thank you for this warm haven, and the welcome of your Table---it's a lovely gift every time.

    1. As your words are gifts to us.With the years..I have gotten to know people..and I care about them...There have been periods where they were my inspiration when inspiration was scarce.Soo many nice caring people. My husband reads the comments and often says these people are so nice.I have appreciated every comment. If it is spam..which rarely ever knock on wood happens..I delete them.FOREVER.I wonder where people find fun in talking about crypto money..If only they knew..I have NO interest..Long hand written letters:) Cards in the mail..I love it all..stationary..sending notes..seeds..garden notes..recipes..cooking things:) Its funny as far as home comforts I have everything I need and never covet the ultra rich.I don't even know what I would buy lol.Oh wait maybe garden redo:) Have a great day:)

  11. You live in a real Winter Wonderland for sure. We have only just this week got any snow that stayed. we just don't seem to get the snow anymore like we used to get. J's creations look like it will be very tasty. I love it when a man cooks. You are well matched. I always love your little people that you paint. I still cherish the one you sent to me! A real treasure. I agree that some of the nicest people are the ones I have met online. Including yourself. xoxo
