I made our favorite red pepper jelly..The recipe can be found on a way back post. Here
Made our favorite apple crisp..You can find the recipe here..I doubled the topping and added more apples..I have tried at least 20.This is the all time winner.It's from Cuistot..and the reviews are stellar...
I have started putting some gardens to bed..albeit so much is still popping..The geraniums..zinnias(I am letting those go to seed)dahlias,nasturtiums..French marigolds..They are en masse..I am not a yellow orange person but that bed with the nasturtiums and F marigolds w/ dill and sorrel and chives and parsley ..Thyme..garlic chives.. is outstanding:)

Agreed about the yellow and oranges except for Nasturtiuma. They are somehow so joyous, so 1920's. There is am ad on the television (I think Viking River Cruises) and the owner says something to the effect that time is only thing you don't have enough of. The scarcest commodity. I so agree . Especially with the change of seasons. Life goes by so very fast.
ReplyDeleteIn a heartbeat..I watching movie legends disappear..one by one..many aquaintances are gone.. time waits for no one..I'm loving the French marigolds with the nasturtiums perhaps because they are French and mellow yellow..Sunshine:)

DeleteBeautiful blooms! Dahlias and zinnias are still pumping out the blossoms here, too. I'm not a fan of orange and yellow, but have French marigolds at the ends of my garden beds as they help with pest control. And they look very cheerful. Happy October days to you!

DeleteHappy October, Monique! I think this might be my favorite time of the year (although I'm a sucker for spring, too). Our weather is perfect and there's that final wave of color from flowers. I look at the few I've planted and feel grateful for the way they brighten our lives. I prefer pinks and creams and lavenders, etc, but just yesterday, I told my husband my favorite color zinnias this year were the red-orange ones. They nearly glow in the dark--almost neon. Speaking of glowing, your pepper jelly is a gorgeous color and I could dive right into that apple crisp. When I was young, my mom and I would go to the local apple orchard and buy tart apples for baking/cooking. We'd make apple sauce and freeze slices for mom's pies. She had a heavy hand with cinnamon when it came to her sauce and pies...sweet memories from long, long ago.
ReplyDeleteWhat sweet memories you have..Wish I had more:) I too love cinnamon but like all spices I have to control my dosage.I have gotten crazy and its just too much:)I too favor Monet's colors by far and don't even want red or yellow dahlias..they are flowers that need tlc here and I am willing for the ones I have..I would like to add a pompom one..Ill see how I overwinter this one.We have a rain day..so I am painting.Yesterday I planted 50 tulips and added bone meal and garlic to keep Alvin ..s away..to not avail..the first patch of 25 was dug up.I thought rain would happen during the night so I did not put Critter Ridder.I did this AM and then the rain came:(I'll have to Critter Ridder again....
DeleteIt's October just like that! I'm definitely a yellow/orange girl, so I'm soaking in the beauty of your nasturtiums and marigolds. I need to remember to plant nasturtiums. It's slowly cooling here, so I've been refreshing our terrace containers. Still too warm for some things. Pulling a garden to bed for the winter is foreign to us who live in the south. Ours is more wrapping our garden warmly when a severe freeze is predicted. Love the side board photo of you and J with those young men. What a transformation! Enjoy!

To think the magic of those little wedding veils you found. I have many similar views. My nasturtiums are going crazy right now also, along with multitudes of dahlias. DeleteI read this on my iPad the other day but could not comment. My iPad won't let me for some reason I don't understand. How can it be October already. This year has flown by. Soon we will be facing the end of it. All of your photographs are stunning. I love the flowers and that red pepper jelly looks delicious. Is it spicy? Your crumble/crisp looks fabulous also! Yummy! ReplyDeleteMarie I hope you try both..I have linked to both recipes..The apple crisp is unlike any other I have made:) I double the topping.. There is a little creamy take on the apples:) And the red pepper jelly is the easiest ever and you do NOT have to add jalapenos.It is lovely on cream cheese..makes 13 little jars..perfect Xmas gifts!Enjoy your weekend I hope you feel good and don't get you know what;)
