These are the days of surprise every day.
Sadly ..out west..the fires are raging..we are getting the fog air..from them certain days..event though we are provinces apart.
I had coffee with my young friend..and already my voice cracks..with the air quality..I was croaky.
I hope this ends for them soon.
Unimaginable.
I have faves in the gardens..Spirea..Korean Lilacs ..Irises..Tree peonies..Single peonies..at this time of year..it varies with the time frame..
I'm never alone in my gardens..
That cute bunny..and it's cottontailed cohort..ate my dill..parsley and sweet peas.:(
We have several birdhouses that lodge different birdies.
We visited a farm this week and I bought farm fresh free range eggs. She sells them as soon as she posts them.
Quite a treck..but countryside..no traffic..we love that.
These can last 2 months, look at the colors!
My neighbours..brought me rhubarb,I made the NYTs rhubarb crisp.SO good..two ind sized ones for them and one for J.
They are so nice.
My irises are from Jain.
Many of you must remember her:)
The minis from Susan..
Gardenbuddies were INSTRUMENTAL in my love of gardening.
Have a good weekend..and week..
Time to smell the roses soon:)
Hi Monique! You have so much to see in your gardens!! Those irises--love the many shades and shapes. And you have single peonies. We see them seldom where we live, but my daughter has some on their little farm. I sure miss rhubarb. My mother always grew loads of it, and I can still taste her rhubarb desserts. Oh my. Maybe it's just as well that I can't seem to grow it. I'll bet your neighbors were thrilled with the crisps you made them. Sweet bunny (with a big appetite for your herbs), but they sure are fun to watch. These are some of my favorite days of "almost summer." Not too hot, not too cold, and so much beauty. Hope you enjoy your week!
ReplyDeleteThey are so quick! When they jumped out beside me I just had time to turn and they were already yonder lol..Very cute indeed:) The chipmunks are plentiful..They too scurry so fast.. nimble on their legs..Cute too..But munchers like squirrels...Pretty out less haze today..Onward!
DeleteI remember Jain. Isn't she the one with that awesome property in California?
ReplyDeleteWhenI saw the eggs it reminded me you had chickens. Do you still have? My friend Irene has about 30 and often gives me free cartons of eggs. She won't take any money for them.
Your irises are stunning. I have pretty pink ones but they refuse to stand up.
Sadly no more chickens here just the coop..One died..the other was lonely..I gave her to Alain my son-in-law that same year.I have to say that chickens are work.I had them 3 yrs I believe but they wintered at Alain's.I let them roam.. and the neighbours..not the crisp neighbours.. I would hear..Monique your chickens are here..so they like to jump into gardens and take dirt baths etc..their roaming days had to end.So ..gone are my chickens..long gone now..Yes.that is Jain..they are on another property and what she did share on IG for a while..Well unbelievable gardens.Perhaps even moreso. She and her husband love the land .And grow stunning irises and roses to name a few.I stake many of my irises..Nothing is easy ..LOL
DeleteYour gardens are beautiful Monique. They are a wonderful testimony to all the hard work that you put into them. Thank you so much for sharing these lovely photos with us. That rhubarb crisp looks fabulous! I love rhubarb anything. The eggs are beautiful. I picked up some eggs at the farm we get them from yesterday. Farm fresh eggs. You can't beat them! Have a great week! xoxo PS - fire is such a devastating part of nature. My heart goes out to everyone affected.
ReplyDeleteI know as I garden and bake and live in the comfort of my home I can't stop thinking about everyone..Not just the fires..:( Im sure you know everyone I am meaning. The gardens..Ill do while I can.It feels good to me.I am grateful. You have your gardens..dad..sister,brother,Cinnamon and Nutmeg..etc:) Bon Dimanche.
DeleteYour gardens are lovely. Jain and her iris are amazing. so glad she shared. I never tire at looking at pretty blooms. The bunny is so cute.
ReplyDeleteYour gardens are splendiferous also!! Supercalifragelisticexpialidociously so!
DeleteCrisp, Buckle, Betty---any way to smother fruit in that fabulous combination of sugar, butter, flour, oatmeal, or any other combination of melts-to-crunch Heaven---I'm your girl. Those are sublime examples of the pie-maker's art---more to me than the crimpest crusts, the golden cascades of cut-out leaves or apples or words, or the intricate braids and weaves of cool, nimble fingers.
ReplyDeleteAnd the IRIS!!! those delicate white petals, with their curls and the weight of those golden epaulettes and their own importance on their shoulders, on to the cheery choir of purply-pink, and the lady in ruffled peach, her draperies fluttering in the wind, as she races to get there before the church doors close. I relate most to the Sweet Old Dear in the wide purple pannieres with streaks of grey---she's always the one sitting with the wallflowers and giggling young ones at the dance. melody tingling her feet, and memories making her heart dance. She never gives a thought an occasional pitying look; she's had a love of her own--the melody tingles her feet and memories make her heart dance.
And that HEDGEROSE!!! That's the refined, well-groomed, mannerly cousin of my own enormous Triceratops, which threatens every year to engulf the eaves, and has to be pruned into behaving, lest it capture the neighbors' two big black Silverados in passing, never to be found. This week will require a severe pruning after all this rain, and the patio Strawberry Birthday Breakfast---the Seventeenth Annual, for the first Sixteen were for my dear neighbor whose 98th was celebrated last year, and who left us in early Spring. Our sweet new six-year old neighbor will carry on the tradition with her birthday a day later a much livelier affair. I love this serendipitous segue of celebrations, just as they should be.
Oh the six yr old doll moved into your neighbour's home..Keep the tradition so sweet.
DeleteInvasive bushes irk me lol.Once this ..these have bloomed..I will trim.I may have been too quick on a tree peony:( Epaulettes! May I steal this analogy? I LOVE IT.
I prefer a crumble to a pie also.MUCH.
So much glorious beauty to love here, Monique! The detail on those irises is breathtaking. And every photo lovelier than the last. And oh, how yummy that rhubarb crisp looks. You must be in your element -- nurturing your blooms and then preparing remarkable treats from the fruits of your labors. Biggest smiles!
ReplyDeleteI am in a good place for certain..The gardens.Unless a drought changes everything:( You know what that can do.. Grateful for hobbies that is for certain!Thank you!
DeleteI'm sure the bunnies, birdies, chippys and squirrels love your beautiful garden! We have a virtual parade of wildlife here every day. I love watching them all...as long as they don't eat my flowers. The smoke has been bad here also. Some days health warnings go out. I can't imagine the fires that fuel the smoke this far away. So sad so much is land is burning. Another rainy day here but the garden is happy to have a fresh drink! Even my big irises are almost done blooming! The big, frilly peoies are next! ♥
ReplyDeleteI was hoping for a bit of rain..seems they were wrong.I enjoy the wildlife too..Just leave my stuff alone lol..The images coming from the wildfires are very sad..
DeleteEverywhere, things are not at their best..
Your gardens are lovely. A friend just dropped off rhubarb, need to make rhubarb crisp. I returned from vacation yesterday and saw that Susan's iris is blooming. What a delight!
ReplyDeleteIt is! This crisp is great I read the comments..I do now..so baked less long and melted the butter..Winner:)
DeleteMonique, you've an abundance in your garden. Always a treat to join you. I'm never alone either, but it's the pesky squirrels not rabbits. Today I opened the door out to the garden and startled a baby with a huge acorn in its front paws. It froze, not wanted to drop the treasure, but not knowing how to escape quickly. I felt bad that I'd frightened him, so quietly shut the door and let it be. It was so small! Wonder what it reported back to its mom. Ha! Ha!
ReplyDeleteMore thunderstorms around this afternoon, but little rainfall for me. Hope you are enjoying a beautiful day.
Our days have been heavenly.I think we breed squirrels here..Oy..so many rascally characters..
DeleteTears to my eyes, memories and beauty
ReplyDeleteYour offspring..s:) TY.Always.
