Mid Augustus~

Some fave tools of le home trade;)

I love pop ups:)

In and out of the garden these days..what else am I going to do?
Paint and bake:)
Nothing much different than before..
However all this extremely limited contact with loved ones..is weird to say the least..and how many days till Christmas..different when you live in a northern climate..you can't have Christmas outside..

The first pic ..beginnings of my tiny treasures..

A great book..these girls..have several Salad restaurants in and around Mtl..the book is packed with delicious recipes..  smoothies..salads galore and their dressings..bowls..and some desserts..
I am on a salad kick now:)

Here is how I like to save my chives in the fridge,harvest..line up..tie and cut..so easy to use scissors to add chives to anything when prepped like this!

More Chris Petri Youtube videos.♥

A Nantucket basket w/ a vase in it to act as a vase itself:)  All because of..
Sarah..

And a delish recipe well worth making..Easy Chocolate Donut Holes ♥Rave reviews from Littles and their moms.

I don't know about you..

But..as I wrote on Penny's blog..

I am finding all this quite demoralizing....I watched a video yesterday ..Sharon Stone..she lost her nana, godmother  to covid and now her sister and brother in law are in covid units in hospital.
I can't believe people don't wear masks..I think that's what's bugging me..The total disrespect some people have:(
Sorry to rant.
Border is closed for another month..worried parents sending their children back to school:(My daughter TEACHING in a school..
It's all a lot.
Wear the mask.Stop being stubborn.
When I see videos of people refusing to wear masks entering stores etc..
I wonder who raised them to have no respect for their fellow man.

Take care. And for the love of God wear a mask.♥

  1. Love the early morning photo and the watercolors! Wish I had half your talent! I will check out the cookbook and have to try the donut holes, thanks for the recipe! Yes, seldom see someone without a mask here, thankfully, and winter Chicago area weather not conducive to Christmas outside either. Take care

    1. Thanks Pam you too..so far since QC law states you need to wear a mask I have not seen one person without or arguing..except on tv!
I find it shameful to argue about it!

  3. Your tomato painting. BIG WOW! I love all the watercolor shots and how you staged it with the paints and all. I'm amazed magazines haven't snatched you up for photo styling. You are magnificent!

I worry about Christmas -- no outdoor Christmas for us, either. I might agree to a day trip and staying far apart (what about eating at the table? Nooooo!) Maybe eating on TV trays? But not big on the thought of an overnight.... I don't know what we'll do.

Love the chive idea and I'm into salads these days, too. All so good!

    1. I made another one of their dressings today.
I could just eat a big salad for dinner..not my husband..
So I may just say..BBQ up what you would like and I will just have a big salad.
I mean so far..and until about Nov at least we can venture outside without a snowsuit...
But after..a whole winter under covid watch..?No blooms..no outdoor visits..next bday is Oli 11 on Sept 8.. By that time littles back in school exposed to all..and teacher M ...wow.
I would not stay in a hotel.
In Feb we went to. Er ont for 1 night.
I now call that hotel a covid hotel.
We had been before and liked it
No idea what happened in 6 months but it turned me off hotels for life .

  4. Er..etc should read Vermont the hotel was in Vermont

  6. Dearest Monique,
Yep, mid August is over with...
Can't believe how fast time flies.
You show a lot of summer bounty, harvested and painted!
Here the schools are still closed, at least for the 1st semester.
Sad for those kids that live in rural areas with no Internet; they are victim of it all.
    Mandatory mask wearing here till...?
Not yet thinking about Christmas, not due to Pieter's tender age anyway.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  7. Your garden is beautiful, as are your paintings and photos. I'm not overly worried about covid BUT I do wear a mask out of respect for those that are worried and/or vulnerable. The people that are complaining about it's their constitutional right not to wear one are just like Trump - ignorant, stupid and selfish.

    1. I totally agree with your statement.
      Totally.
Take care Polly and thank you:)
Constitutional rights..could not be friends with them.
      The buck stops here.

  9. One of my goals for next year is to revamp our herb garden. It went by the wayside, so this summer we've had a container garden for herbs. The chives looks so pretty!
I couldn't agree more about the masks. Our mayor has mandated masks through December. Mostly people follow the rules, not that I'm out to notice. But I do shop at the grocery store, and everyone is in a mask. Trader Joe's continues to limit the number of shoppers in the store, but other groceries do not. That has concerned me of late because it is crowded. It's mostly in the produce section, so I just move on quickly. I may go back to curbside pickup, but for us, we would rather do our own shopping.
Your images are so pretty and refreshing. I love seeing peeks into your garden, and the art process. Cooking, gardening, painting are all perfec hobbies! You do them well!
    Have a happy week.

    1. All my little hobbies are like my friends..isn't that weird?I have never had a friend that liked doing what I did..I did but all individually.. a cook.. a gardener..that's it I think.
It's funny my neighbour on one side..hates garlic, mostly her husband....lol..hates cooking..hates housekeeping..but likes to garden ..so that is great..I find a neighbour you can talk gardens with is interesting..my other neighbour loves to garden also..so I am the cream in the oreo..;)
I am soo lucky with my neighbours..if ever one moves..I will be very disappointed..you read so many stories about neighbours..
We are lucky..and we all know who lives kitty corner across the street:) And her dear friend is our cherished neighbour too...

      I miss TJ Sarah..so much..

Maybe one day I will see it again.

      Take care..you have GORGEOUS gardens..♥

  10. Thank you for sharing your beautiful work and for your photography of just the simple things from a garden. You brightened my morning. I agree completely about the lack of respect of not wearing a mask. I am a teacher over 65 and will only teach my classes at a univeristy via the internet. Returning to hot beds of the virus is crazy nuts! But I will continue to stay at home, wear a mask, and enjoy reading your blog and my other favorites. Be well, stay safe, and keep sharing your lovely art!

  11. We are so fortunate that we have gardens and love to cook and bake! Even though I don't paint as often as I used to it is so relaxing too...sometimes :) Sometimes a challenge. I have another new sourdough bread recipe in the oven right now ♥ I also love your tomato photo! We are swimming in tomatoes right now. I'm sure I will freeze some whole to use in soups in stews in the fall and winter. The tomatoes are ripening in spite of the leaves turning brown and withering. We slice and eat tomatoes almost every night. Had Bo yesterday. He was our ray of sunshine on a beautiful day. Lots of pool time and playing legos on the back porch. I wish I knew what was in store for Christmas :( Our boys were set to start school and then, two days ago they cancelled it. They are devasted. Poor Bo who had no virtual learning in the spring was only to receive 2 days of classes per week. Nothing like what he should have. They are going to send the two youngest to a secluded, private school this year and hope for the best. Mack enjoyed the virtual classes last spring and actually prospered but he's older and has enough attention span to look at a computer screen for so long. Fingers crossed for them all! Will all of your boys be attending school in September? It is scary but they are probably in good districts. Lots of precautions will be in place. Glad ours aren't in the higher grades yet! I will be thinking of M and pray for her and all our boys. We both have September birthdays coming up :) Lindsay, Oli and Mack. I just don't get the anti maskers either. Here, more and more people are wearing them. The grocery stores especially seem to have done a good job requiring them, thankfully. I only go to those where I feel comfortable shopping. Oh, for the carefree days!

    1. Yes all 4 start next week..and M starts teaching..this will engender new worries as they will all be in contact with so many people. They are looking for bus drivers here and teachers..not exactly here but in QC.
Oh a Bo day I miss those days like crazy..
Ours are all grown really sad to say.
Good idea to send M and D to a different smaller private school.
I worry about all this and their educations. You know that.
Good news it's pouring but ..only 64 F.

Oh for the carefree days of hugs for certain.
And yes than God for the love of gardening and ..the luck we have to have a plot to dig in.

  12. Grateful for our gardens :-) The cherry tomatoes are my favorite, as I like to just pop them in my mouth and eat them like candy. Like you Monique, I have been thinking of the parents, kiddos and teachers during these challenging times. My DIL is a first grade teacher and social distancing will be hard. Is your daughter stressed out about the school year?

    1. She is a bit..my girls have not been moaners during all this,we discuss it..they have been careful..but going back to school is a worry because ..it's all people talk about and everything builds up..
Little ones are hard to social distance..you are constantly "with the"..and now there is talk about which facial protection will be used..

      It's all a lot.

      I pop them too:)

      Bon Weekend:)

  13. A feast for the senses!! You keep on growing in your watercolors, in everything! Love!!

  14. Your blog is a feast for the senses! I have been gifted with so many fresh tomatoes of all varieties and I've become quite good at preparing and serving them in so many ways. I've decided to go back to growing a little vegetable garden again next spring. Can I ask if you store your chive bundles upright in water? I do that with some herbs. But with chives and scallions I keep rolled in paper towels and in plastic bags.

My daughter is a teacher and many of our family members are educators. I think they are more front line fighters than the health care workers right now. I'm relieved she will be teaching from home, but many others in my family, and friends, have to go back to classrooms with students who have been...where? Very upsetting. We were quarantined in the US in mid March, and NOW they are wondering how to manage schooling?

Sending love, Monique. Keep up the beautiful gardening and painting. 🌸

      I tied my chives like that..in a baggie..still fresh!!
This is my best method..and it's been awhile..when I notice moisture..I ten add a paper towel but so far so good and the ease to garnish..a breeze our carbonara last night..no mess at all!!

  15. Oh Monique, I always love visiting your page even though I do see most of it on IG first. Here you string it all together in a beautiful way with your words, etc. I bought that cookbook on your recommendation. Tres chic! I have already bookmarked a few to try. I always love your blooms and your art. I think I am your biggest fan. You have seriously tempted me with your donut holes also. Oh my goodness. Chocolate is my favourite thing. I'm with you, stay safe and wear a mask everyone, please, please. Lets all work hard to bring this to an end! Love and hugs and thanks for all you share sweet girl. xoxo

  16. LOVE your blogs, photography, art (I hope to learn to watercolor)... I moved home (where I grew up from age 3) to look after my parents. Lost my Dad 2 1/2 yrs ago to congestive heart failure & my Mom has Alzheimer's. She will never remembered he's gone, so that adds more challenge. She's in stage 6 or 7. She can still read, walk, talk, but it's hard to add value to her days since she can't do so many things she used to do with a 0-5 minute memory span. But your blog adds huge joy to my life. Thank you for bringing beauty and pleasure to my life on a regular basis. Karen
