And sure enough they were..I have only sized four of the many many photos I took of hundreds of butterflies landing on the rudbeckias and echinaceas..and goldenrod and hydrangeas.I must have spent an hour and went back afterwards also~
By late afternoon they were all gone..but from 11.30 until at least 3.30..I felt like every butterfly of this kind lived here:)~There were literally hundreds!~Flying ..landing..such gentle creatures.I am looking forward to examining the other photos I was able to take waist deep in wildflowers..and even in my humbler rudbeckia clumps.
It's so hard to describe the feeling..Well described by Pooh and Piglet:)

Oh how beautiful! Magical rather..Looks like a wonderful year for butterflies...I saw so many(not at one magical time like you) but at different times, many varieties, almost 12 different varieties and the one more beautiful than the other. It is, like you say, gifts of nature! And lovely photos you have..

Butterflies are exquisite. When I was a child, there were some bushes near our driveway and monarch butterflies loved it for some reason. We always called it "the butterfly bush". Wish I knew what species that bush was, because the flowers attracted butterflies like mad. I could stare at them for ages.

ReplyDeleteAhh.. the butterfly bush is in fact called that:) It's latin name is Buddleia ..If that's the bush..many photos you can look it up..they adore butterfly bushes..I've not been succesful here:(

ReplyDeleteMonique, I'm back to look at the magic again. Last night I had a beautiful butterfly visiting in the garden. I looked it up to identify because it looked as if it might be a Monarch, but yet not. It wasn't. It was a Queen. When their wings are closed they can easily be mistaken for a Monarch, but open on sees they are not. My visitor was a male I learned from the web site I visited. Such beautiful creatures. I took my camera outside and got a few shots. Nothing like your show, but I will post soon.........Sarah
