C'est tellement beau..

Not peak yet..But oh so pretty.

Saturday found areas without power and windy..(the cause) but sunny with gorgeous white puffy clouds..I went out looking for beauty.I don't have far to go..

I met a past client with his dog:) Years ago..years..he was nice enough to let me take pics of him.He was nice that many yrs ago..still nice.

People are always surprised when I say..from the back:) I love them:)

My husband said something so wise..he often does..he rarely comments on things but when I mentioned again I love taking photos from the back he said it's because nothing is forced..(fake) So true.

One of our daughters hosted Thanksgiving.. on her own..her husband is a hunter and he usually is away this weekend..it was delicious..the whole family..I adore when we are all together.

I come home late..WIRED and I don't sleep a wink lol..

We eat early..by 5.30-45.And we don't eat a lot..nor after that until the next AM..At family gatherings..I star when I get there..5..and stop eating at 11..No wonder I don't sleep;)

Wired.. We are quiet..these evenings are full of conversation and laughter. The big boys still come..I just love that.LOVE that.

So I brought desserts.. my cupcakes were not great.my icing broke..:(

My cookies were just ok..I tried a new recipe..but these were a hit.Pecan Pie bars.

I was glad to be able to pick a bouquet for her.

Gosh those dahlias..I remember when zinnias thrilled me:)  I still like them ..but..:)

Enjoying Disclaimer on Apple TV

No frost yet..  so dahlias will remain..underground.

Have a great week:)

  1. Late wishes for a Joyeux Thanksgiving, Cher Ami!! And it's lovely hearing that you did---we have just lately had a wonderful weekend put on OUR Dance Card---Oldest Son, our DDIL and their GrandDaughter will be with us for ours!! Little hearts dancing.

How I love your strolls amongst the ALMOST---those sun-kissed trees with all the little pink smooches on their cheeks, your fleeting greeting of an old friend, the DAHLIAS (my Mammaw had a great relationship with both Park and Burpee, and saved seeds from her dinner-plate Mauvish-to-White ones for several harvests, for their research). One in a vase made a lovely offering on each side of the pulpit in their small church. And we just spoke of PECAN bars---every now and then, I rummage through bags and sacks and boxes and jars of (usually Amazon) orders Leah has made on a whim or for a holiday, and yesterday's was a bag of pecans, so we decided on making a pan whilst the cleaners are in the other part of the house on Thursday. My Mother's recipe for "KAY-RO Pecan Pie" spread out over a thinner surface, with the crust recipe from "Mountain Mama" chocolate dessert---(ground pecans also in the crust for a fleeting nutty whish of cookie in the crisp bite)---one recipe I have on a little steno page in Mother's left-handed, unmistakable script. She was left-handed, and after one two many teachers had swatted her fingers, she could write equally well with either hand. And I never noticed until a few Thanksgivings ago that the recipe has 1/4 t. cinnamon---a NONO for me, except for baked apples and snickerdoodles. I ignore it and hope I'm shriven of the crime.

Those back-pictures---someday when we meet for coffee, or happenstance on the street, I'll have saved my egg-and-butter money all these years, and will incognito commission just ONE of those intriguing, inestimable treasures just to hold in my hand. Especially one I treasure in thought, from 2007 and a stroll with a small gamin of a GrandDaughter of three---an old soul in a tiny frame, and still our fairy-girl in black or purple or deep Loden-Green, still such a talented artist and a knitting-needle savant of the first order. I love best about you the way you love those YOU love. And that's a gift in every photo, every line. My Thanksgiving will certainly include thanks for YOU and this window on another world, freely thrown open to the sights and sounds and scents from your bountiful Table of life.

    1. I totally have no words to answer this---and I cannot find a way to answer, for I the e-mail portal is past my solving and entry. Just know I'm so humbly overwhelmed by your sweet gift, it's transferring HAPPY into everything I'm doing since. My own e-mail is ganjin042@gmail (that's a zero in there) and I'd love to hear from you amongst your many calls on your attention and life. Just one little x of a "here I am" would suffice to transport me to clouds, and be too much magic to bear.

  2. Those pecan pie bars sound divine. Like you, the dahlias thrill me, and I mean thrill me :-) I'm going to email you a photos of zinnias with monarch butterflies feasting on them....this man plants over 2,000 zinnia seeds every year and raises monarchs also. I just realized that I'm not receiving blog notifications when you comment, so my apologies for just posting your comment today.

  4. Love the way the dog is looking up at the man in your potential painting photo! Dogs are the best. I am hosting my first dahlias this year and am anxious about when to take them up or even if I need too - we get freezes but not hard or often. I need to find a near by dahlia expert to tell me what to do!

  8. I love where you walk and take photos in the fall. We are at about the same stage here. What a nice surprise that you saw your former client on your walk. I love how Jacques the reason from the back is good - no fake or nervous smiles. More natural. We had a frost warning last night, we were spared. I may be able to pick more bouquets! I hear you regarding the zinnias. I've already been thinking, maybe that space should go to dahlias instead next year - LOL. Dahlias are such powerhouses this time of year! So happy you had a nice Thanksgiving with your family. ♥♥♥ We are taking L & L plus Bo to China Lights tonight! It's should be a beautiful evening, cool but no wind. Life's pleasures :)))

  9. I'm coming by to comment late in the day. We've been running the grand girls all over creation (and loving it).
Your photos seem to get better every week, but how can that be? The older gentleman with the dog stole my heart. And the dog...doesn't it look like the dog is checking on his master? Happy Thanksgiving, albeit belated. It sounds like you had a wonderful time. Thank God for family--wouldn't life be lonely without them? Well we had a hard frost last night and the furnace was humming away this morning. I think the flowers are done for. I am happy that you have enjoyed so many lovely bouquets from your flowers this season. They have been stunning. I checked out the recipe for the Pecan Pie Bars and they sound wonderful. Do you think a person could make them the day before serving them and still have good results? I'm such a fool for freshness. Early on Thanksgiving morning, I try to bake pies, plus tend to all the other items. As I've aged, I'm not as good at juggling the prep of a holiday meal. My guys love pecan pie, and I'll bet they'd enjoy those bars! Have a great week, Monique!

    1. Pam absolutely..but don't overbake..follow her.My oven runs high..they were jiggling so ..I added 5 minutes should not have..It's not a thick filling in the end in a 9x13..so overbaked edges are too hard I found..Absolutely do the day before!I would not wrap or cover.WE sound like twins re juggling;) Now.But..grateful to be able to still do.Happy week to you also..xo

  10. Monique, I'm always amused with the term, "Put the garden to bed." Here we garden year round, and cover if we are warned of a severe freeze. It's a lot of work to cover, then uncover when it warms, then go through the ritual again if we get more than the initial freeze. The upside is we get to enjoy a garden most of the winter.
I have a close friend who was a professional outdoor portrait photographer. She was so talented! She often captured photos of the backs, a couple walking together, children. When she photographed another friend's 3 daughters, she captured a photo of the 3 of them walking together, another of the standing on a bridge looking over. My friend, the mom, selected one of those and had a huge framed portrait hung in her home. Her reason was, that is the way she often saw her girls. They would walk or run ahead of her and she always saw their backs.
Happy belated Thanksgiving. Happy you were with family.

    1. What a sweet story re the mom and her girls..Oh I am sure that is a ton of work too and literally putting them to bed. Here we grow things all Spring Summer and Fall only to pull the annuals and CHOP the perennials.A boatload of muscle work:(But we feel it's worh it.. we must or we would grow nothing:)And some do..and some chop nothing..pull nothing..To me that's like getting into an unmade bed.We did have fun..Lots of comedians in my family:) Thank you!

  11. What a wonderful Thanksgiving you had! I love that you were all able to be together and that you got to enjoy some lovely chit chat with the big boys. They have grown up in front of our eyes. Your photographs as always, beautiful. I like what J pronounced about taking photos from behind. Not forced. I wouldn't mind having my picture taken from behind, lol I am sure your bouquet was just beautiful. First frost here this morning. It got down to 1*C last night. Winter is on its way, but still enjoying the lovely sunny days of autumn. I have always thought that you live in a paradise on earth! xoxo

  13. Happy belated Thanksgiving. It sounds lovely and in an odd way (though I'm sorry it happened for a holiday!) I'm a bit relieved to know that you have baking fails, too! I love "back" photos as well and in fact, many I took in England were like that and when I finally get my thank you note painted to my hosts, it will be a "back" photo of the two of them, I think. You inspire me.
