So Garlic is my fave withhhhhhhhhhh Dahlias now..and French marigolds:)

So listen.. if my tubers do not overwinter.I am buying more new tubers:) It seems I have a designated spot..Like I do for garlic..And I love picking bouquets every day.
100 yrs ago..when I was a realtor..I would hang a bouquet of flowers on my clients new door handle.. with ribbon.. and a note..To later return with a gift..But I wanted a bouquet to greet them.
Very much like this one I did here.
Depending on circumstances..weather..lol..timing..and taste.

My friend Joanne was a nanny and her little one's  milk came in these metal containers..poked holes on each side..and added the ribbon..in this case garden twine.I can't believe I still have 3 of these metal containers..
I may have gotten the idea from Martha back then.

Our porch is up a few steps.. like tall:) Look how Café au Lait is soaring.
Have a I mentioned I just love dahlias?
Would like to add a few more..Funnily enough only two varieties here ..But look how Labyrith has two very distinct colors!

Not far behind this summer..

My nasturtiums as always and my French marigolds

Meanwhile the birds and the bees and the flowers and the trees..are feeling fallish..nothing dramatic yet.. However..

The cosmos are starting..and again soo tall..and these are from seed I saved and not like any that grew here..I wonder how come?

Still into these.. I love them.Look that's a big parchment paper muffin cup..It still rises above and beautifully..

I have lots of blueberry muffin recipes here..not sure why this one is hitting the mark repeatedly..:)

Footnote..

So on a sad note for all of us..Oli our youngest..  is QB at his school..He was so looking forward to this season.

You may remember he won gold for Team Québec this summer..away in NS.

I have to say humbly..he is a stellar QB.

Games start this coming weekend. His arm..was bothering him..probably for a while..HE NEVER complains this child..

Many tests later..Growth spurts(he is so tall)... can cause fractures ..primarily in athletes with repetitive movements.

QB? Same arm..always repetitive

A cast was placed this morning..Aug 26th.:(

Out for the season.

My heart aches for him.

To know him is to know..football makes his heart beat.

  1. Oh, I am so sorry about Oli. That has to hurt (in more ways than one.) At this point, probably the sadness and emotional toll is the deepest hurt of all. The dahlias are gorgeous. I love the bouquets. I'm sure your new buyers always smiled when they came to the door and saw those blooms. As always, every image is worth of a prize. I hope Oli gets a muffin or two. He could use one right now.

  3. The dahlias are exquisite, your garden is so lovely…what a delightful tour you’ve shared. I am so very sorry that Oli has to sit out his team sport….I hope he heals quickly! As a parent, family, friends, we share in the disappointment and heartache. He will be better than fine, soon, as we know …but still, hard. My best always, V.

  5. Very sorry to hear about Oli's arm. We hope it heals well and he will be back in the game soon. Yes, when they hurt we hurt. Collin fell off his bike in July & his arm was in a soft cast. Fortunately it healed on its own. He wasn't even riding, just sitting on it and toppled over!!! Your flowers look so beautiful and I adore the little bouquet at the door. Reminds me of May Day. It it is so unbelievably hot here. I am not going out much. Take care

  6. First things first! My heart aches for Oli--and for your entire family. Our son played football and I know how very important it can be to the players. I know another young athlete who is recovering from surgery. When I pray for him, I will pray for Oli, too. Our young ones need faith and strength to keep on going in the right direction.

Now those dahlias. They almost have an ethereal quality--they seem to rise up and glow. Of course, it might be your skill as a photographer, Monique. Those colors are simply beautiful. I'm a lover of french marigolds and yours are still doing so well. I haven't had cosmos in several years and I miss it. Love the story behind the metal vase with twine. What a sweet gesture to your clients.

    1. Oh my gosh you have a heart of gold..
I know.. how did I get so invested in football? Because of them..He's had a ball in his hands since birth almost with his two older brothers and his dad..
Poor Little.. Linda he grew so much this yr..taller than his big brothersThey attribute this injury to growth spurts and repetitive movement..QB..always throwing that ball...

  10. Monique, the beauty of these photos is stellar! I must try growing dahlias! I'm heart sick for Oli. I know the disappointment hurts to his core, but it sounds like he is accepting the set back with maturity and giving of himself to help another. How proud you must be of these young men.

  12. So sorry to read about Oli. I had read on IG of course. I had read this as well when you posted it, but was on my iPad and for some reason I can never comment on my iPad. I always love everything you post. Your beautiful photographs. Your lovely words. Your gardening journals. I admire your dedication to your garden and all the hard work pays off every year. It is hard to believe we re at the end of summer now. It went . . . so fast! I am sorry about Oli. I know how much football means to your grandsons. All your grandsons are fine young men. Next year Oli will be back better than ever! xoxo
