Scilla Season~

Finally..Scilla season is here..always my first picked bouquet.
I love them..probably because they are my first..even before the forsythia blooms..even before my daffodils.
It's still been chilly so green is not happening..we need some warmth to get the leaves out...
it's trying to warm up..really trying and the sun is out as I type..
My garlic patch is making me giddy.
So cute the little perfect aligned rows.
All growing in tandem.
If my small harvest is good..there will be more next year for certain.

The gardens and lawns are raked.. the tree trimmer Dominique came and pruned all the side trees..
I can see tulipleaves trying to emerge.
I put my dahlia tubers in trays..they look forlorn and dry..wondering ..should I get some fresh tubers just in case..?

Thought I would share the second dessert I made for the  big boys..and the Littles~
Let's start with..the big boys..
If you love oranges.. you may like this..

Chez Gourmantine~is where I lost my head..go see..superb..
I made it..as per her instructions..but my oranges were huge..so I used less of the filling..there would have been too much.
The verdict?
It is excellent..but my family..creatures of habit ... all told me they like my regular baklava better.
It's like..you know..:"my mom's spaguetti sauce is the best."...
They are used to more nuts and honey and no oj flavor at all..I did like the idea of making it like a cake though.
Adamo liked it.
But that was it..
No ahhs ..or yum..or can I have the recipe..
They said it was pretty.Period.:)
You can't win em all;)

For the Littles..cute EBAY superhero molds for chocolate♥

Looking forward to temperatures climbing this week~
Today we Springed up the screened-in-porch.
That means..
It is here.

    Gros bisous ♡

  7. My first spring here and I have Hyacinths, Daffodils and Tulips. They have all popped out and the Tulips and some Daffodils have yet to bloom. Soon though with the warm temps this week although we are short on water and it's dry here. Hubby and I did a lot of yard work today and feels so good to have most of it cleared and ready for the beauty of Spring flowers to arrive. Your Hyacinths are gorgeous, mine are out but look a little sickly :( Any dessert you make I know I will like :) I went on EBAY and you're not kidding, there are a slew of kitchen gadgets and gizmos! Not to change the subject but did you see the character "Mary" from "Call the Midwives" is now on the new British show on PBS, "WolfHall"? The "Mary" character was so much better for her, I don't like her in WolfHall :(

    1. I did see..was it Jennie Agutter?
Not sure of the spelling..for some reason we didn't get into WolfHall..even with Damian!
Maybe we should have given it more of a chance..
I am so happy for you and all those blooms..I remember when you moved in!
Imagine..you have a lot to look forward to!

    2. Yes it's Jennie! Oy, I'm so forgetful :/ WolfHall is full of history and I usually have to watch a rerun (on PBS off my ROKU) to understand it better, although I do love British history.

  9. Hello Monique. Your Scilla looks so pretty. You really must be feeling happy seeing your newly planted Garlic bulbs shooting up and the spring flowers starting to pop up here & there. My spring flowers have been & gone, but now I'm up in the north almost at the tip of Denmark so I'm enjoying Spring Again. It's sunny with blue sky here but Cold Winds. It's lovely seeing my grandsons but can't wait to get back to warmer weather.

  10. Oh, Monique... every ONCE in a while, we do get that one dessert we thought would get rave reviews from our families... and it gets a deafening lack of oooohs and aaaaahs. I always feel quite disappointed when that happens. I think I would love the orange addition. ;) I know the Littles LOVED the superhero chocolates.
We don't have Scilla... it is so beautiful. Reminds me of crocuses. I will wish for you a warm, sunny day. blessings ~ tanna

  12. The vase of Scilla blooms are beautiful. I have never thought to put it in a vase. Mine have multiplied or self seeded so hopefully my shade bed will look like a sea of blue one day. We are warmer so any daffodils that face south here are past bloom. Some Thalia daffodils are starting to open and they are so nice, multi flowers, white, small and fragrant. They multiply too. I think your cake looks great. It is frustrating when a new recipe is not well received. i did not make the cookies we talked about, waiting for some clarification from the blogger on the amount of butter. The molds are great. Bet the boys like their super hero treats. Enjoy your warmer days.

    1. Love Thalia..
Mine..all of my daffs are in a wrong spot I think as they have not multiplied..and many have no blooms:(
You just never know what will naturalize or not..Terry here..a few lawns are a sea of blue right now..so pretty!

  13. I don't think we have Scillas in our area. But I did pick a beautiful bonquet of lilacs from our bush. I love the nostalgic smell of them. As children we used to make paper baskets, fill them with lilacs and deliver them to neighbors on May Day. We would ring or knock and then run away. I don't think many people celebrate May Day anymore. Thanks for introducing me to Gourmantine. She has a wonderful blog. Your baklava looks yummy, even though it did not get high praise.

  18. I can't believe that our scilla are already on their last legs! I have to see if there are a few for a bouquet - so pretty. I love how they spread and spread. I think they were especially early this year with some fine weather early in April. Now the Virginia Blue Bells are opening. I love the Superhero molds! I will look for them for my two Superheroes. Too bad about the baklava. It really is beautiful. It's true - you can't win them but I don't imagine you have too many of those :) I think I am excited as you about the garlic. I will need a garlic planting tutorial if yours are successful! To warmer weather and green soon.

Trop bon !

  23. It sounds like Spring is finally springing for you Monique! Yay!! The Baclava is very pretty. I have never made Baclava, but love it. I will have to pick up some phylo pastry and try it one day. The only problem I have with it is it getting in my mouth, lol. It's soooo good. Love the chocolate molds. Knowing the boys will have super fun with those. Love your pretty blue blooms also. It has turned cold here again. Brrr . . . . but very little rain. Not sure what is up with that! Sending you love and hugs. xoxo
