I love that old jug..many many many years ago..when I worked..we would do an annual Christmas bazaar for the firemen's fund..
it started small..just our little office w/ an incredibly talented..nice..smart..manager..she hired me when I was 28 and so green..I would never have survived in real estate had it not been for her.
Seriously.
I have stories up my sleeve:)
She would knit so many sweaters..and other things..some baked, some made quilts and some painted..
One of the things I bought was this painted jug..Barbara Fullerton painted it..Great job:)
She is long gone..but everytime I see this jug..I see her:)
She was devoted to the bazaar.
So..yeah..yellows abound right now..actually even for a couple of weeks now..
bright happy sunshiney yellows.
It struck me this week when I had to get something from somewhere because it had been requested of me..specifically requested..so I went to get it..politely..and was told I did not need it..that it had been sent..
so what do I do? Arrive w/out it when it was REQUESTED..and risk being turned away after a 6 month wait?
So I politely asked again..and got it..
How can something turn into that?
I just don't get it:)
Peace and love..lol.
Then..leaving..I walked out a door that is very hard to push open..someone was coming in and I do what I always do..I held the door open..
she walked right in..kept looking at her PHONE.
Please get you faces off your phones..and live a little.
I said: "Bienvenue".You're welcome.
I would not have said that had I not been verklempt..ed? upstairs.
Be KIND..be appreciative..be grateful. You don't have to radiate happy..we all have something that dulls the happy..but...
Kind?
There I said it.
Jacques said that might teach you to stop being nice to strangers.
( he did laugh when I read this to him..out loud..we are NIGHT and DAY..:)
Are you kidding me?
That will teach me to continue .
By the way..if you need something sweet this w/e..
these are decadently sweet but delicious..with a cup of tea?
Perfecto.
I found them here..at Baked By an Introvert..(love that name)
Toasted Coconut..white chocolate chip cookies..
Bon weekend~
Love all these yellows and your pictures look awesome like always.
ReplyDeleteI love autumn winter but this year I wait by spring. Is lovely. Here begin in September...
Hugs !
Enjoy it all Gloria..you deserve it.
DeleteMy yellow black eyed susans are in full bloom along with the zinnia. Some things are fading but I still have color. Your tea cup picture is so beautiful and those cookies look so thick and good. Just like I like them. I can't imagine someone not thanking another for holding the door open. I read once that in some countries it is considered rude to speak to others you don't know. My oldest daughter would talk to a post; one time she rolled down a car window to talk to someone she didn't know in the next car. I told her that story. Well, we don't do that in America, she said. Have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteIt is starting to look like tired Augustus...
DeleteI went blueberry picking again this morning and that lovely man had to get a well and install irrigation.Too dry..Siberia ..warmest ever the news said!
Here..everyone basically talks to everyone..I am exaggerating..but we know many by sight etc..I would never not thank someone either.
Next year..zinnias..and dahlias tooI miss them this year!
Did you get seen? I assume it was a referral. I hate when they tell you it is taken care of and it is not. And the person not saying thank you, how rude. At least you have your beautiful yellows in the garden to cheer you up. That tea cup is beautiful. You must have such a nice collection. Cookies look yummy. I thought you would miss your dahlias. Next year for me too.
ReplyDeleteAugust 18th is the appt.
DeleteIt would just be easier to acquiesce .I just don't get it.
Anyway..
I know I am on the sensitive side..lol.
I do miss the dahlias..look up Floret flower..they have a blog..I found them on Instagram..they Instagram the most beautiful dahlias..that's what is making me pine for them. The way they show them..amazing.
Hope you are healing beautifully..summer is just flying by.
Well good luck. I have to figure out Instagram. I may have signed up and forgot or in trying to create an account everything I am trying says that name taken. I'll try today again. I know someone who posts photos of her dahlias on Facebook and I swoon. Healing is so slow. Now I have swelling on the elbow of the arm so I'll have to have that checked out. Ugh! This growing older thing is a pain in the neck.
DeleteI went to her site, OMG she has beautiful flowers.
DeleteHugs...my black eyed susans have been in bloom for weeks now...Everything is getting that tired August look. Not one hydrangea flower this year... Not one... Just green. So bummed.
ReplyDeleteBisous xo
Hmmm.I must say..here they bloom in sun and shade..must be the soil..I'll write and ask you the types you have. And things are starting to look tire too here..I find especially with the grass.Jacques is the mower and. Because of the drought is not cutting it a lot so all the clove and quack grass and creeping Charlie just stands out like sore thumbs.and I find the grass is the canvas for the blooms.xx
DeleteThis post made me laugh and nod in understanding. Yesssssssssssss. . . ."You're welcome." Ha! Indeed. I love that rude entitlement, when someone just sashays without offering thanks through a door you're holding open for her. Don't get me started on "cell phone culture." I could rant and rave all day. :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos.
Tomatoes on the vine cannot help but be striking too. Their growth and the developing colors fascinate me.
". . .Introverted Baker." 'Wish I'd thought of that! How clever. :) ♥
'Am hoping this comment appears since the last one I left--on your "Lesson Learned" re: the blueberry season in Quebec post ("You can say you love his fields, just don't compare")--never showed up. Ah, technology! Anyway, I'm following along with your beautiful summer. :)
♥
You write so well Val..yes I can see you being so polite and gracious..I would open a door and throw down a red carpet for you:)
DeleteI think every day we learn lessons..we may not see the lesson at the time..but we do.Have a good weekend..hope you do something fun.
Bonjour chère amie,
ReplyDeleteElles sont merveilleuses les photos de ces fleurs aux tons jaunes. J'aime comme elles illuminent la nature.
Gros bisous
En effet des petits phares:)J'espère que vous passez un bel été.
DeleteMellow Yellow!
ReplyDeleteWhere's your aquarelle jaune??
:) the little yellow flowers last time:)
DeleteI am making jam..LOL..and taking my 11!!! Yr old grandson out to lunch and shop for his birthday..but I did sketch..and organize a new palette with favorite colors..
I am trying to be like everyone:(
Your flowers are beautiful. I agree with you about the phone and where has politeness gone?
ReplyDeleteIt just amazes me..many are so so so so nice..and polite..it was an off day for everyone I guess:)
DeleteYour flowers and photography are beautiful as always. Being kind wins in the end. My mother always says, "Kill them with kindness". The recipient may not appreciate it at the time, but you've done the right thing and it feels good. I agree with you 100% on the cell phone problem. It's like a pandemic!
ReplyDeleteAnd you know..Jacques said..he was glad we didn't have one..I mean I do have a cell but it's a flip phone dino..and many many months..not one call comes in or goes out..really!
DeleteBut he said..we would be on it too..and I agree..because both he and I enjoy our computers very much..so maybe we would be staring at it:(
I hope not..
I don't find my girls..are on them when we are together unless they take a pic or want to show us something.
The true teen 17 yrs old..is on it a lot:)
Every time I have spoken my mind..I have regretted it:(For years!:)
I am not made for belligerence...and it looks stupid on me.
Just yesterday that happened to me too!!! But we're made that way and I won't change, they are kind value's...nice garden blogs Mon~ Di🍅☀️🌻
ReplyDeleteDi,,remember in Italy..the shuttle bus and the rude people that tried to get on before the Littles? And that charming Italian young man..yelled at them and said..Hey..Les bambinos etc etc!
DeleteEverywhere eh? :)
Are your Littles home?
Beautiful cheerful photos of your garden always make me happy. You capture so much beauty. Love your grace and style Monique. Being kind and talking to strangers is part of me too. It is a wonderful attribute. My husband doesn't talk to strangers at all. While in line, at the butcher or wherever, I find myself talking to strangers. My husband would say, I have lived here 15 years and that butcher never spoke to me and you come along and he speaks to you like old friends. I told him, because you never spoke to him....I was just being friendly. Have a great weekend. I am expecting my daughter, two granddaughters and two of my great-grandkids tonight.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your evening:)♥
DeleteLinda..Jacques is identical:)
IDENTICAL.
And have a beautiful weekend too..bet tonight will be special at your house.
Funny Nick mentioned that when I read your blog to him....your a feisty one!!!
ReplyDeleteYes they arrived on Tuesday~
I can be:)
DeleteYou must be happy,!
I can be:)
DeleteYou must be happy,!
Love the pitcher of garden flowers. Lovely photo, lovely subject. An old Victoria Magazine issue when Nancy Lindemeyer was Editor had a sample embroidered with "Nice Matters". So many readers commented positively about it. I think so many are so distracted by their phones that they forget proper manners. Thank you for your lovely stories. xo
ReplyDeleteI wonder if I still have that Victoria mag:)
DeleteThey were my absolute favorite.
I started with Country Living..then fell in love with Victoria❤️
Thank you for all the beautiful day trips and art..and nice..and cobalt..and nice..did I say that?If not..and nice:)
I'm happy but we haven't seen or heard from them in three months!
ReplyDeleteThat.well you know how I feel.
DeleteOh, your yellow blooms make me smile. Love the color yellow. It equals happiness for me!
ReplyDeleteI agree about the rudeness that comes from others attached to their electronics. I didn't take my computer on my trip and rarely used my phone or iPad other than the camera on each. It felt liberating!
I thin The Cape calls for no technology!
DeleteExcept a camera:)
Have a beautiful day Sarah.
I was just saying to Todd the same thing yesterday. Yellow has come too soon. Summer is on the wane. Blah . . . . I am with you on being kind. Being kind is good for "ME" never mind anyone else. If I am kind and nobody notices, it doesn't really matter. I notice and that makes me feel better. Brilliant sounding cookies! Oh, I don't dare bake these things unless I can give them away. I have little to no willpower. It will kill me one day. Love and hugs! xoxo
ReplyDeletePS - I am with you on the phones. I have a simple mobile phone and half the time I can't even find it. I am glad that I am that way. These people who are tied to their phones are missing out on much of the joys of life imo.
I am not well in my skin if otherwise.Any single time I have gone against my grain..I have regretted it even years and years later.
DeleteI have enough to worry about without worrying about if I was rude etc..
Have a great day Marie:)
I am so with you about that politeness/kindness/ human interaction thing!! La politesse, très importante...The yellows are pretty colors, but also their designs are great. Those little centers with those little circles! I didn't quite understand what happened about the request, but I hear it was frustrating for you. Nice memories about the Firemen's fund. Do you know the film "New in Town"? It's supposed to take place in New Ulm, Minnesota but was filmed in Canada. There's a nice scene of the ladies selling their homemade goods at a winter carnival...And a cute fireman in that scene too.
ReplyDeleteAnd a cute fireman? Oh you made me smile..will definitely look that up..
DeleteWe took Lucas out for lunch yesterday..11 he is today..
he said :"You look nice nana"..(I had my date the boys white linen dress on)..and he opened doors for me..I said..Don't ever change Lulu..always stay caring and polite:)♥
I am with you about being kind...definitely not always reciprocal though in this world.... Love Baked By an Introvert - the name cracks me up. :)
ReplyDeleteOh darling I KNOW how polite and kind and caring you are:)
DeleteYes..I love that name..wonder if she is an introvert?:)Happy weekend to you all in Palo Alto:)
Some words told to me so will share it :-) We were created to make somebody else's life better. Somebody needs what we have, our smile, our love, our words and our encouragement. I am more and more like my mom every day. Strangers come up to me in the grocery store (because I am tall LOL) and ask if I would kindly reach for an item on a top shelf. Hope you are having a beautiful weekend. We are off to a graduation party and then to camp. The leaves are already turning up north (at camp)...it won't be long before I will have to put on a sweatshirt. We've had a dry, sunshiney summer. (and a drought which has not happened in over 20 years).
ReplyDeleteWell that brought a tear to my eye.
DeleteWE have had the same summer:)
I know how much you loved your mom..you must be very cozy in the feeling of becoming more and more like her:)
And I love the pitcher of garden flowers :o)
DeleteOh gosh...I am the same Monique!! People are so rude nowadays...I always mutter something back!
ReplyDeleteLike...when you let a car in, in traffic...usually a hand wave"thanks"...nowadays...nothing! Geesh....
Your Yellows are gorgeous...they are early, aren't they??
Guess from all the heat...
Home again...off to a wedding reception for my Nephew...he got married in Mexico...son and one daughter and Miss V also going...daughter with Celiac, doesn't want to risk getting sick :o(
enjoy the rest of your weekend..
Cheers!
Linda :o)
You too!
DeleteI knew that would be you MO:)
Just knew it..Have fun..weddings are touching..:)
Our heat ppump stopped yesterday..I have been baking cakes and Moussaka..it was planned..birthday weekend..
Oy my face looks like I have been in a sauna..:) Dewy:)
I have the same yellows! Won't be long now though! Love that china. Like really love it!
ReplyDeleteA client/friend gave them to me..they were his moms..I love them also..thank you.
DeleteI think there are 10.How nice was that.
Great advice Monique! People are oblivious to what they are missing. I was discussing this very fact with my sister-in-law last night. Millennials don't seem to take the time to think without interruption - or constant stimulation. I have to get away from phones and tv and such so I can clear my head. Like gazing at gorgeous yellow flowers would be so much better than reading emails! Not that I don't like getting emails - most of them are junk anyway :) Read a book, talk to an elderly person, work in the garden, read a book to a child. Sorry - sort of went off the deep end! Have a lovely day!
ReplyDeleteI agree with ALL your thoughts.
DeleteGive real time:)
Those sound delicious I will need to try them. I love all the yellow. I had a dream about black eyed susie the other day. Kindness goes a long way and you will never find it on the phone. Have a good week. Bijou.
ReplyDelete:)
DeleteYou too!
I have a busy day ahead but I'm dreaming of sipping tea with you and your pretty cups, eating delicious cookies, staring at your beautiful yellow flowers and chatting up a storm. A girl can dream, right?
ReplyDelete:) And I am looking forward to making your jam/shortbread tart..it's all printed up..that's a sure sign:)
DeleteThat jug is fabulous! And what a wonderful manager you had when in that job. Sounds like a mentor and a wonderful and kind person.
ReplyDeleteI know exactly what you mean about the phones. One day on the way to physical therapy I was driving down the parking lot and this woman was walking right in the middle of the road, looking at her phone. I creeped toward her, my foot on the brake to stop before I went into her -- she stopped about three feet from the front of my stopped car, shocked. No way I would have hit her but I didn't think it would be a bad idea if she ran right into me! When I was working on campus I saw it all the time. No thank you, no "hello." Very troubling.
