Picture a blue sky:)Although I said the weather suited the Game Of Thrones feeling:)
Le foggy view as we arrived..
My favorite of the artist Archimboldo until Jan..a beautiful exhibition..
we should have stopped earlier..there was absolutely no parking anywhere to be found at the Carrières Des Lumières..and I was told that at night..spectacular.
This is a store..when I stepped in..♥
I bought my Painting Provence book above~
A Bed and Breakfast..I had no idea..look how pretty!
Above ,a lovely store for tea towels etc..
markets have many many also..and tablecloths..and aprons and runners etc..
Provence and linen..s♥
A washroom..below..
Les Baux -de- Provence has been named one of the most beautiful villages in France and rightly so..honestly you feel like you are in a movie..that a village can be this beautiful is beyond one's wildest dreams.
It gets over 1.5 million visitors per yr .Only 22 residents in the upper part..436 in the whole commune.
It's gorgeous my friends..gorgeous.
Yet another chapter in our sweet trip..
I hope you don't mind..it's my online journal..look away or skip to the end for Dorie's delicious tarte tatin recipe.
It was drizzly the day we went..one of the only drizzly days..
the morning was quiet and people started arriving and arriving..I could meander and take photos of shops and the area w/out people at one point..it quickly changed..
Walking through this commune is out of this world.
The shops are set in stone..the views..the products..the people..
again..so friendly..I have put some photos to give you an idea.
Desserts were often included in Jacques' Formules..mine.. a few..
he adores..tarte tatin and crème brulée..
I made both once we returned.
It had been yrs since a tarte tatin..I made Dorie Greenspan's LOVELY.From her book Baking from my Home to Yours..I have 3 of her books and they are all keepers..I don't find all cookbooks keepers.;)
One thing about Jacques and I..I have baked so much in 44 yrs that he sometimes forgets I HAVE baked things that he loved..lol
it kills me when he says:"Mmmm this is good..maybe you could make some?.."
IHAVE..bless his heart;)
It's fall now..you can see the trees changing ad although it is bleak today you know they are there ready to shine and outsparkle everything when the sun will shine..
we went to one of Lucas' high school football games late yesterday..it's his first year and was told..don't expect to play in your first yr here.. so he uniforms up..goes to all the practices..and watches..
and I watched him♥
Isn't it funny how when someone you love is somewhere..that's really the only person you really SEE..there's an aura:)
A magnetism that cannot compare with even the best QB on the field lol.
L'amour,toujours l'amour~
Number 6♥
So beautiful. I would love to visit and wander through that lovely town and shops. I would love to buy some french linens, more tablecloths, etc. Someday we shall return and definitely visit. Thanks for sharing this slice of heaven.
ReplyDeleteI HOPE you do go back..I think it would be nice one day for you to..just get away from it all♥When the time comes for you to just think about you two.
DeleteMy posts might get boring if they are not already..but this way if my girls have a moment they can see what we saw:)
I loved your post!! Les Baux de Provence photos and the Tarte Tatin! I can hardly wait for our spring trip. This looks like an amazing city. I know I will love it. Thank you so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteKate..pack your bags♥And an extra one♥
DeleteIt all sounds perfect. The trip looks enchanting and I don't know how you didn't come back with extra luggage carting it all home. I know I'd have stayed in that all white clothing shop for a long time. Fall is slipping by fast. It is a beautiful, slightly cool and sunny day, a perfect fall day for me.
ReplyDeleteJust read your post..how nice of you to take the time to come and see me with everything on your mind:(Take care Donna..we may go back..I'll save some shopping for the end:)
DeleteProvence is gorgeous, but then you would have to look long and hard for a spot in France that isn't gorgeous. After looking all over the south of France, we chose Carcassonne, which does get tourists--it's amazing, after all-- but doesn't feel overwhelmed. All the charm, but not yet discovered. But keep it a secret!!!
ReplyDeleteI want to go..clients of mine went..yrs ago..we may go back..St-Rémy..and just drive around for one month:) Will check ou the distance.
DeleteWhat a Fairy Tale Town! I love all of the stone architecture and that wonderful welcome sign. The shops and all the beautifully displayed wares outside - you just don't see that charm here. It looks so peaceful in your photos that it's hard to imagine all the people that come to visit. Just lovely!
ReplyDeleteForgot to mention your beautiful tarte tatin :( It's been so long since I've made one also!
DeleteThe whole area..is absolutely magical..I want to go back at least one more time..to just savor..maybe a camera..to use once in a while. But one more time..
DeleteI swear I go to bed w/ visions of Provence in my head..not sugarplums;)
Little boys yes..and the sea..
and yesterday we said we live in the prettiest town..we had Oli in the car..I want them to realize what beauty is:)♥
and I said wait..no..not anymore..and oh so wise J said you cannot compare OLD and new..
gratefully Oli had no clue of what we were talking about;)
I think you would find the whole area..fairy tale..
The artist in you and that francophile part of you:)
If only I could convince my J. I'd go in a heartbeat ♥
DeleteI love how you captured the pops of color on the gray drizzly day, just gorgeous. Love this post. Someday I will go....
ReplyDeleteI know you will and you will love it..rest assured many will make a great effort to speak English and do it very very well:)
DeleteSuch a pleasure to see your beautiful photos this morning. And the tarte tatin makes my mouth water! My husband does the same as yours.😂
ReplyDeleteTHose guys..;)
DeleteTRying to document the trip a bit better than in my written journal..sometimes I read past posts and they really bring back the feelings so vividly..
Can't forget this one:) Have a great Sunday..rain here..will paint..
Dear Nana, in spite of having been in Provence a few times, I had never heard of those sweet small villages. I promise, next time, to stop there.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your trip with us.
xoxo
Thank you for coming with me:)♥
DeleteLovely to experience Provence through your eyes!!
ReplyDeleteMille merci
Took too many pics..I am only on my 3rd folder..yawn for all of you..but I have to do this!:)
DeleteI want to go back..♥
How wonderful, my friend! Those shops are amazing -- the one where you bought your book -- I could get lost in there and at that textile spot, too. I love the architecture and all the stone. You are a one-stop tour guide for this beautiful region and should I ever get there, I'll be visiting these posts again.
ReplyDeleteI'm so behind on everything. Hoping to catch up with replies and such soon!
No need for replies..I saw what you are going through and we have emailed:)
DeleteI may bore you by then end of these posts..too many pics..too many cute towns..
Loved so many things..I think the very last post will just be a bullet journal of faves♥
I don't do a BJ..but for fun:)
Bon Dimanche..what's left of it!
Dearest Monique,
ReplyDeleteYes, the region is really that charming. We had a fabulous time last year and enjoyed being at a wedding.
Tarte tatin is delicious.
Sending you hugs,
Mariette
Did you go many places Mariette?I must admit many are favorites☺️Have a lovely week
DeleteNo, not many as time was limited... 💕
DeleteDearest Monique,
DeleteAs a reply on your question, I have added two more links below my post and that will explain it all.
Hugs,
Mariette
What a pretty place to visit...
ReplyDeleteSo much history..you marvel at how everything was built..:)
DeleteThank you! We spent August in Arles and could see Les Baux across the plains but didn't visit as I didn't think I could manage all those stairs and steep streets...now I have seen it from your point of view!
ReplyDeletexxx
Hope to go to Arles next time..and Avignon:)
DeleteMonique, I love that you are taking us on this trip with you! I love every photograph and every word! So beautiful! I have to say that the only thing I was not overly fond of in France was their toilets. More often than not, just a hole in the ground, I kid you not! Yikes! A shop with only white things. Be Still My Heart! Your Tart Tatin looks gorgeous as always! Can you believe I have never made a Tart Tatin! Todd loves his desserts also. The worst comment I ever get from him will be, "It wasn't my favourite." He is so kind in that way. Love the football photo! You are right, when you are at something like that you only have eyes for your loved one. I remember hockey games and Volleyball and all sorts when the kids were growing up. I only had eyes for them! Have a wonderful week! You have gotten mine off to a great start! xoxo
ReplyDeleteOne of the places had a hole..I didn't go:) What we did this time was use the resto's bathroom:)
DeleteI took too many pics M...I think I will skip maybe..in fear of becoming THAT person that shows her trip pics ad nauseum:)Thank you :) For looking:)
I cannot imagine anyone ever being turned off from seeing your holiday snaps Monique! I think they are just lovely and I am so pleased that you and J were able to get away and revisit this lovely place! Life is far too short to bow our wills to the naysayers! It’s your blog, do what you want! We who love you would never mind! Xo
DeleteYour photos of Le Baux are beautiful Monique. I guess I was following in your footsteps when we were there two weeks ago. It was our second time and it was just as enchanting. I recognize all of the shops that you snapped. Did you get a chance to see the light and music show in the quarry? I was in total awe. For some reason I am no longer getting your post updates in my email so I am a little behind here. Will catch up. Provence is one of my favorite places.
ReplyDeleteAww..no we were able to peek from outside..by the time we went there was no parking to be found anywhere..parking was not easy to begin with LOL..Would have loved to see Arcimboldo..yes we were following each other:)
DeleteAfter our unfortunate trip last year I thought we were done..now we look forward to returning to Provence.
It's us.
Beautiful photos... I feel like I am there... So cute #6 ...xo
ReplyDelete♥♥
DeleteBeautiful things to see and and buy and eat. You've captured the atmosphere of the place so well, Monique.
ReplyDeleteAmalia
xo
Thank you Amalia!
DeleteWhat a gorgeous city, and all those wonderful shops! A full day of browsing indeed. Thanks for sharing your wonderful trip. I still have 1,200 photos to get through from our trip to Australia. Don't know why it is taking me so long haha. I want to go to France now!
ReplyDeleteJacques told me a few times..you are taking too many photos..hard to resist everything is so charming in Provence❤️I hear you loud and clear😊
DeleteLes Baux is very special. We have been there twice with friends and stay at a small inn just below the hill top. The owners showed us an easy little path to get to the top so we had no trouble with parking. Your photos make me want to call our friends and see if they want to return. :)
ReplyDeleteI know we are going back❤️So I do not blame you!Our home away from home for there was St-Rémy..loved that place.
DeleteSimply stunning....I would have had a hard time not buying a lot of those beautiful thing!
ReplyDeleteBisous xoxo
