Bon weekend..
It's Saturday, I'm drinking a good cup of coffee and heavy cream (gotta live it up once in awhile) and I spied your post! I look forward to them, Monique. Your painting of the man and little boy is wonderful. Such a compliment to you that the photographer wanted you to paint this picture. And that garlic...to me, it is as lovely as your flowers. When it comes to flowers, I've decided to stick with survivors. Zinnias have become my favorite (maybe because they're still alive, lol).
ReplyDeleteWe prefer eating at home, too. A few weeks ago, my husband and I needed to get out of the house while a generator was being installed. They had to turn the electricity off and it was too hot for us without the AC. In the past, we enjoyed a bit of shopping and eating out, but on that particular day, both of us really looked forward to coming home. As soon as the contractor called and said they were finished, we were like two happy little kids, heading straight home. Home feels so comfortable and safe--especially now that we're getting older. Life is awfully good and for that I am thankful. Have a lovely weekend, Monique. Thanks for this post!
So many parallels:) We just had a generator installed 10 days ago.We had ne in the garage that my husband had to hook up..it did certain things..But we live inan area with many many trees..overhead wires.. outages..With ice storms..higher winds than ever..we bit the bullet and had one installed. He wont have to do anything :)I like that.I agree garlic is as beautiful as a flower and no fuss!Yes Zinnias:). Cosmos from seed has done well..no bugs either..will do again.Home sweet home..we are lucky:) Have a good week!
DeleteYes, many parallels! I think you and J will enjoy your generator. We had one at our farm and it really took a great deal of stress from us. We have a portable one in the garage, but you have to keep gas on hand to fuel it and it's not as powerful. Kind of funny, but when we have a whole-house generator, I don't worry too much about the weather forecast. My husband wasn't as anxious to get one as I was, but when I reminded him that the littles are just 2 miles away, and they need to stay warm, he caved. Gaga knows his Achilles heel!!
DeleteHi Monique, very cute water color of the boy and his father. Seems as if baseball caps are always in style. I quite often request my littles to take them off especially when I am taking photos! Need I say that your photos are always beautiful! That pizza…we had a ritual, too. Sunday night omlet made by my husband. We did enjoy going out to dinner and I have an enormous glass container filled with match books (remember the day when restaurants gave them out) from the places we dined. I think of all the $ money I could have had but would not trade those days for all the dollars in the world. Precious times together.
ReplyDeleteI hope to make some precious moments this weekend. It is my birthday and my daughter, son en law, and grandsons are spending the weekend in Chicago (not
far from where we live) and going to the Art Institute. I always make a point of taking them to a museum of some kind. My son and his wife will meet us for dinner. Then my grandsons & I will share a room…I don’t anticipate a lot of sleeping. I am really looking forward to a big splash to close out a wonderful summer before school begins.
I am excited for you and Happy Happy Birthday! Yes memories to last a lifetime..I think we ..in becoming a couple convinced ourselves..we liked eating at home better.Could have been a whole different scenario had we taken a taste to it earlier on.We had quite a limited budget early on..My daughters LOVE eating out.And so do their husbands although one husband cooks as well as a chef:)What a weekend for you..Have FUN:):):):):
DeleteLovely photos and stories as always M. I don't much care for going out in the evenings either but we do like eating out or ordering in. I do HATE cooking and make very few things well. And 2 things I love to make with squash L hates. But somedays I just don't care.
ReplyDeleteLol its fine to not care:). Not everyone loves cooking..baking..I have had very few friends that liked it..Very few..I'm a weirdo;)My mom and dad would not believe this:) At all..Have a great weekend!
DeleteI love it when I find a new post from you. It’s like an unexpected gift. You have probably shared pizza crust recipe but could you repeat? Ms Nell
ReplyDeleteIt's my husband's and it always turns out differently. One thing that has changed here..we bake it on a Vermont Castings Baking Steel..What a difference it has made:) Compared to a stone there is no comparison:) So we have hand made ones..one even from a nonna..but for practicality we/he uses the bread machine..
DeleteHere it is..
115 ml of tepid water
1 tsp of sugar2 tsps instant yeast.
Rest 5 minutes.
add 1 tbsp olive oil
3/4 tsp of salt
1 cup flour.
Dough cycle. ours is 90 mins
It makes 2 generous size free form pizzas
Bake in a preheated 480F for 10 minutes on that steel.
Your sun baked tomato pasta looks wonderful as well as that lovely pizza. The boy and his father is darling. Happy weekend.
ReplyDeleteYou too Linda:) Thank you.
DeleteI'm so glad you are painting again. I must google Cindy Briggs tutorials. And how wonderful to include it in your Provence book. I seem to be in a painting slump and must get back to it. I've never had the sun-baked pasta. It hasn't been warm enough this summer to even try but it sounds fun. You are much like us. We tend to not go out often simply because we cook as well or better at home at much less the price.
ReplyDeleteCook better:) Yes.I must admit in Provence and in very special places here I have tried to copy what we ate..But fast food and take out and order in..Noooooo.Most rain on record here since early 60's..
DeleteI remember sun-dried tomates on wooden benches in Sicily. I didn’t know you could do a whole dish like that!?
ReplyDeleteBravissimo PB
They are not sun dried..they are sun baked with all the fixings..they make the sauce..so delish..Ina has a recipe..I just add things;) J adds clams..Pas moi.
DeletePS Your garlic looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteI can’t imagine what it tastes like ❤️
It's juicy..and lasts all year.I promise.:) Some are incredulous..but it does:)
DeleteAs always a lovely post, that I so look forward to. It is so true. The most simple things are the best i.e. the pasta. The best ingredients. My husband always said " why would I want to go out for dinner when I have the best restaurant at home ?"
ReplyDeleteYour husband and mine:) Bon dimanche Jane:)xo
DeleteNow that I've read this, I want to go toss all those lovely ingredients around the kitchen with abandon. Yours looks as if you simply wished it to existence in that perfection, with gleaming basil and a nasturtium to match. I have to leave by three, so perhaps I could wok-accelerate the sauce for a minute or two, as I want to take a treat to a hospital patient. And those once-in-a-lifetime walkaways that you are the absolute Mistress of---I want some of those so badly.
ReplyDeleteAnd that ethereal view of the vase---you've got yourself a zinnierre! All the tulips are jealous, and my dear Mammaw, who corresponded with "Park" and "Burpee" weekly like they were old school friends, and whose efforts to breed a white marigold for each of them were "written up" in the Memphis Commercial Appeal by Mr. Lydel Sims, himself---would heartily approve of your pale zinnia and talk all afternoon about how you got it.
Off to find that exquisite new jar of Kalamatas , a passable head of garlic, and a snip of basil. If I ever need uplift, or serene settings, or what must surely be light imported from Provence, I know where to land.
You're so sweet Rachel:) Makes me happy to read your comments..Words from the past they seem ..Eloquent and heartwarming!
DeleteOh. My. Sun baked tomato pasta…every word is yummy…that garlic is gorgeous…love, love the painting, soooo sweet…and pizza ! Doesn’t everyone love pizza? Your posts are little gifts, thank you for the joy. Have a happy week. xo, V.
ReplyDeleteYou too..and thank you for coming to visit:)
DeleteI'm so sorry dahlias are have not been a good flower for you. Isn't it strange how some places things work and others they don't? I can't grow echinacea here! Every time I plant one it lasts for a season and then bye-bye. I love your gorgeous, airy, light-filled bouquets! We are having a heat wave here and it's too hot to even take a garden stroll :( Gosh, I envy your garlic. Another thing you are able to grow beautifully and I cannot. Pasta with fresh tomatoes and basil - a summer must! Your Zinnias and marigolds we are successes for both! ♥♥ Father and son are so heart-warming. Another beautiful chef d'oevre!
ReplyDeleteIts mostly the earwigs and japanese beetles for Dahlias..Its ok..I love looking at yours:):):
