Time goes by so very fast...like gardens..

We had three nice days:) Two I gardened my heart out.

Filthy was I..

But I am always so grateful somewhere in my heart to be able to do it all.

The third..We did errands. One of our grandsons turns 18 and is going away for football so I bought things for desserts and etc..

My Littles are their own person.. doing what they want to do with parents full approval after careful scrutiny.

I just want them happy and healthy.:) I adore them.

And then it got cold.. and rainy again.

And my well established dahlias may have been planted too soon..

Time will tell.

I follow garden influencers and it's so funny how we think we know it all.

LOL we don't especially in different zones even so slight..

Yes Goutweed is invasive..Vinca for sure..Ajuga..yes..

Pachysandra..Stay Away..

I recently saw Solomon's Seal being recommended ..well I can tell you that here..I cannot get rid of it.

Same with Gooseneck Loosestrife.

Rose Campion..but I love it and pull it out.

Creeping bellflower..the worst.

Grapevine ..sooo invasive....

So beware of recommendations..perhaps ask someone you know.

When I have shared invasives..they are warned.

Oh and Jack -in -the- pulpits? Totally invasive.

I would love Miniature Iris..Iris.. to be totally invasive..but bloom..Like these:)

LOTV totally invasive also.

Forget-Me-Nots..totally.Im fine with that:)

Spanish Bluebells.. Unbelievably invasive.

Hostas get TOOO big..sun or shade..Oli dug out quite a few last yr..More need to go.

Desserts.. I mad an Oreo Cheesecake as per Max's request(Anyhting Oreo..lol)

And added a more mature dessert..

Biancas mother's flan..

I have to confess I tested it out on us.

A 10.

Period.

T..On IG..  You can find her here..  has often made creamy desserts etc..

I really only had made Crème Brûlées for J..

One day she told me she had bought a Llanera.. a pan especially made for flans.

I was smitten with the pan and with how often she had said J would like.

So..I bought one..

And found this..

Oh my goodness..I am not a dessert person..kept slivering lol...

So that was the second dessert for the party.

KEEPER...

Have a lovely weekend...

  1. Oh, the NAMES for the plants, from age-old-ago, the Latin and the properties and the resemblance to an article---Loosestrife, and Campion and Solomon's Seal---it was the first one I looked up, expecting a round little leaf with engravings like the wax seal on an ancient letter, and it's just the most beautiful, lush plant---those verdayt bladey leaves and charming little bells---I'd give oysters to see a field of that, especially in my yard. I DO think of mine as a YARD, and always have, for I have not your magical hands, nor the patient labor, nor the gift for which-is-which in the plant dynasties. I've just always thought that the Lord made them all flowers, and not until pesky FOLKS came along and called some of them WEEDS, was there a dichotomy or ruling class of the Botanical World.

Your pictures today are sublimely magical---that oxblood iris would make a gardener swoon, and all your knowledge of the titles---I wrote a silly bit once, about how some flowers sound a lot like diseases, "My diphtherias are blooming beautifully," or, "Those pesky anthraxes are just taking over the beds." Such a paltry humor, but it makes me smile.

This whole post has WAY brightened this sunny Cusp of June even more, and I'm going back to look up some more of your names---what a lovely Saturday's hour, and I think I need a trip to a floral department. Two packs of ZEENYER seeds have been calling my name since I dropped those three big bags of potting soil CLUNK onto the grass two weeks ago. And I KNOW the Flan recipe by heart, from just one reading. YOOHOO, Sunday Dinner!!

  2. Happy June Monique! I'm drinking my first cup of coffee and admiring your gorgeous photos. Those flowers....so lovely. I agree with what Racheld said--"that oxblood iris would make a gardener swoon..." And that flan--my hubby and I would probably put it between us and eat the whole thing. It's hard to believe that your littles are taking those important steps into the world. Finding out who they are and where they are meant to be. So important. How blessed they are to have a strong foundation of a loving family. I believe it makes an indelible imprint upon children. We went to our older grand daughter's "graduation" from preschool. Next year is kindergarten. How they grow! Don't work too hard, Monique. (I loved your line, "...filthy was I..." That's the sign of a happy gardener.)

  3. I have several of the plants that are invasive for you and they are very well behaved. Our house came with plenty of pachysandra which I stupidly relocated and both patches took me years to get rid of. I also have those orange ditch lilies that I have been battling for 41 years and they won (and I gave up) several yrs ago. I planted 5 Spiderworts 20 yrs ago and they eventually became a super invader. They are all over the place. I began pulling them out a few yrs ago and in that battle I am coming out ahead. They are not gone but greatly reduced.

    1. I forgot about those and yes here too those Spiderworts..Same here.My ditch lilies have stayed by the driveway,so I left that area.Ive actually abandoned two gardens to let them frolic as they wish.It was too much..One day I may get rid of a few more..Have a great day A!

  4. I know pretty much nothing about gardening. You could fit all I know on a thumbnail and still have room; lol You are so generous to share your gardening tips and your beautiful photos with us who can only really dream for such. I love to look. This spring has not been quite as warm as past years I don't think. Wet also. We have a huge problem with Ticks down here in Nova Scotia. I hate them. They make me want to stay indoors. Your flan looks fabulous. What size Llanera did you get? I see them come in several different sizes. I have never had flan but everyone who has says it is the best dessert. After seeing yours I want to try it now! Looks delicious! Have a great week! xoxo

  5. The flowers -- stunning. I love irises (I think I'm going to an iris farm today) but can't seem to grow them. If I'm lucky, I get one from my plant. My LOTV can spread as much as they want! I think we may divide my hostas to take some to the lake -- lots of shade there! Your flan is lovely, as is every other photo here (as usual -- you have a gift!). Have a wonderful week -- it sounds busy, full of family fun and love. I hope the weather warms up! (Here too!)

I did and they had a good yr last yr..I think they may have burrowed again as there are less blooms. The miniatures? The easiest. No problem with depth etc,I love them..Have so much fun.Its fugly here.Windy,dark..looking like rain..again.

  6. Such pretties! I do hope your dahlias make it. As long as they don't get overly wet they usually pull through. I haven't planted any of mine yet. I started to wake mine up indoors also and they are getting huge. Tomorrow it will be 80F and the night time temps look like they were stay above 50F, finally, so in they will go! The weather has been unusually chilly this year! As you said time like gardens pass too quickly. It's sad when our short season is made even shorter by a cool spring. Totally agree on the invasives but I don't mine LOTV spreading :) Love your flan! ♥♥♥

    1. Several of mine are huge and wanted out..I had tempered them also.I know they hate too much rain as a tuber was mush..before I planted..The rest seem fine..I have my stakes in.. I would have loved to add a new variety and did not.Next yr.I have very little space left.I wish I could plant when I harvest my garlic but it is too late then.I need something good for that big area..Oh it has been the worst ever May.Here's to June:)

  7. May was cool and wet here on the west coast and my rhodos loved it. They were superb. Not one bush got scorched which usually happens in May. Now my Hardy geraniums are in full bloom and we have waves of colour. We’re enjoying the garden these days as we know the heat will arrive and ruin everything. Angharad

  8. Your flowers are so gorgeous, love the color. Gardeners do get dirty, however we do get satisfaction when it’s all done. The flan looks so yummy. Light and creamy. It was a hot weekend, now in the 80’s. Happy June.
