Blueberries~And Brocante~

Blueberries and brocantes..

Love both.

Our local brocante/flea market..is an every Saturday morning outing..I mention it every year at least once..
there must be  100 vendors..I am not good at judging..some in barns..some in tents..antiques,collectibles..bio products, lavender, flowers, clothig, jewelry, vintage items..SO MUCH STUFF!
I ♥ it.
The setting is idyllic.. fields to park in..a huge pond..outbuildings..bucolic and charming ..sweet gardens..flower boxes..quaint... and my favorite Saturday early morning outing..before the crowds arrive..even then..look how many cars..9.30 AM..and that is just a small fraction of the cars I am showing you..by lunchtime..you have to park..up the hill!
I don't ever parallel park..and never city drive..so this kind of driving..    25 miles an hour LOL..along a quiet shore drive..and field ,side to side parking..is entirely my speed. And less than 10 minutes away;)
Scary that a Costco is opening soon..  but about 15 minutes..going in the opposite direction along shore road..in a neighboring town.WE will be going fom sleepy country to..urban consumerism!
Dangerous.

That gentleman was so nice to pose..he was selling signs they make..vintage style..English..he very much dressed the part.
I don't know where I got my nerve.I must say I recognize so many people there having lived out here almost 40 yrs..I am shy to whip my point and shoot out..
after perusing and buying a couple of things..I took out my camera and took a few shots..he was posing for someone else..I asked if I could too;)
Anyways.. when we first moved here..I sold crafts there  a couple of weekends.. my girls were babies..and so was I almost.
I sold childrens aprons that you could tuck crayola crayons in.. tissue boxes.. etc..
So many years ago!! 35 at least.

The blueberries..I ate many..au naturel..but made a new muffin recipe..and these mini bundts.
I only made 3:)
I halved the cake recipe I used..and adjusted..
I based my recipe onthi s one~

But again I halved it..

La Recette~

1 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter softened
1/4  C cream cheese
2 eggs
1/2 cup sour cream
2 cups blueberries washed
1 1/2 cup all purpose flour
2 tsps baking powder

Pre-heat oven to 350F

Grease a 9 inch springform and set aside..(remember I used the mini bundt Nordic Ware mold and made 3..you could make 4..,but they would be flatter.
3 worked for us.
Soften the cream  cheese and butter in a microwave..don't melt:)

In a food processor..mix all the ingredients except the blueberries..remove blade. fold in all  the blueberries except 1/2 cup..place on top of cake after putting in the springform..

(for me..I reserved some to push into the mini bundts..)

Bake for 40-50 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
Let cool..

Remove from pan and Ice..

I just drizzled  ..some icing sugar mixed with almond flavoring..  and then a dusting of icing sugar..some fresh blueberries and a sprig of GARDEN mint;)

Go to the link to get the full original recipe..

It's like a lovely little pound cake:)
Just make it prettier w/ edible blooms and mint  etc..

  3. Costco? Must be booming around there. I love flea markets; it is the most fun thing in the world to me. Problem is, I have way, way too much stuff already that I need to get rid of, so I don't go anymore as it would just be too tempting. I look at things and think, I could double the price and sell that, but, alas, it is just easier not to go. My blueberries are ripening. I get a couple of handfuls a day. Pop them in my mouth instead of the freezer.

  5. Monique, the mini bundts are exquisite. Too pretty to eat, but I would! '-) Blueberries look amazing too. What a fun outing. Do you go often? Every Saturday is surprising. Do the vendors have new things each week? Looks like my kind of day of fun. Wish I lived near by. Then we could eat blueberries together! '-)

Mack said there should have been blueberries instead :) They are coming again tomorrow and I have everything except the cream cheese. Next time :) Your mini cakes are beautiful all dressed up in berries and pansies :) I would love to visit that flea market! So many wonderful things to see. I would be hoovering over the dishes and bowls. And, I love the cow :) How wonderful it's a place you feel comfortable going alone. I would love that.

I did.. about 30 years ago..buy an almost full size realistic flat plywood cow for our gardens at a previous home..you placed it IN the garden.. it had an piece of wood that formed an insert..I had lupins..hollyhocks..:)The daughter of the owners made them I think..

I think many of you would enjoy this eclectic market..it's not like a flea market..much more a brocante.

  18. What a fun flea market! And so close to you, lucky you. I laughed when you said you don't parallel park! Me too. I did it for my driver's license and have avoided it since. We were planning on going to a flea market this Sunday on our way to an overnight stay at an inn but we got there a little late and cars were lined up. Not many in my eye but Jerry thought too many. I may have to go alone. Mind you I could sell to the vendors! The cake looks so yummy. I like your small bunt version. An excuse to get a new pan? I could drop off two of the cakes to the girls. Wonder if they could be frozen? I have plums in a bag to ripen so I can make either a tart or pie of them. In the meantime I have been busy in the garden trying to get all my seedlings and dalhias in. Today is going to be hot hot, hot! Oh by the way, I made your avacodo and garlic with tomatoes spread (that you posted last July )and had it as a side dish last night. So yummy.
