Oli's mommy took the above photo w/ Retrica on her phone.I love the apps for phones and Ipads and Androids etc..
My phone..is not a smart phone..so it can't do this..in fact my phone does nothing..it's so old;)
but in an emergency..it does connect.
This is the first dessert I made for our Thanksgiving..celebrated yesterday ,Saturday ,at our daughter Mylène's home..I found the original recipe here.. at Lexibule's~
when I spotted it this summer..I thought it would be a fun addition to TG..those Feuilles d'Erable cookies are very popular here, even in my youth..they were popular..so many brands now..well..certainly more than one..
there's a nicely rich maple syrup sauce she added..from Ricardo..so I did too;)
La Recette..Courtesy of Lexibule~
For the crust
20 maple leaf cookies including the filling
2 tbsps melted butter..(you could add a bit)
For the filling
3 packages of cream cheese 250 grams each
2 eggs
2 tsps corn starch
1/3 cup sour cream
1/2 cup pure maple syrup
1/4 cup sugar
For the maple syrup sauce
1/2 cup pure maple syrup
1/2 cup 35% cream
1 tsp cornstarch
Directions..In a food processor combine cookies and filling and pulse untild you get a graham cracker crust consistency..add melted butter..
pat into an 8 inch springform pan..and bake in a pre-heated 350 F oven for ap 10.mins.
Meanwhile combine all filling ings in your stand mixer until homogenous..
Add to cooled crust and bake at 350F mid shelf for ap 45 mins..turn off oven..
Crack open the oven and let cake cool in there 3-4 hrs to prevent cracking..
mine cracked after 1/2 an hour..but I just added some crushed crumbs on top..you could not tell..
I made mine the day before and refrigereated..until we went to see them..
Wait till a bit before serving..and while the cake is at room temp..add cookies on top to decorate..
I had spun some sugar the day before..badly..but still I had it all made..the next morning it had melted away to nothing..a spun sugar expert I am not.
For the sauce bring the ings to a boil and simmer 30 secs..
Let cool..
I added the sauce upon serving at the table..
Thumbs up from everyone this cake.
Delish..
It is sweet..I served slivers..as there were 2 other desserts..
If you are looking for a lo cal..low fat dessert for your TG..don't make this;)
PS..one box of cookies has ap 21 cookies..buy 2..because you may need extra crumbs and to add the whole cookies on top.
We had a wonderful turkey dinner with all the trimmings at Mylène and Alain's home..everyone came..
2 great apps..and a rich creamy delicious soup..
the boys regaled us with their fitness prowesses:)
How they could do push ups and sit ups and trampoline..was beyond me;)
They're adorable these boys..♥ look at the light in their sweet eyes:) Happy kids.
I hope they always love being with us until they are 80.
nana loves those walks..I love walking to get to the paths..the pretty homes..their gardens..the tire swing..the eye for detail in front of certain homes..the fading fall gardens..
but mostly the walk in the woods w/ the leaves..and the silence..
yet..
I find you can hear fall.
Hi Monique, what a wonderful post, love your maple-cheese-cake, great idea to add cookies.
ReplyDeleteNice pics of your grandbabies, they are all getting so big. My phone sounds like yours. Take care!
They are getting so big!
DeleteIt means time is going by ..
C'est la vie..
I can't give up my phone package..
I don't use it at all..so a bigger investment would be silly.Jacques doesn't even have one..
I better not lose mine;)
I love this post. I did not know it was your Thanksgiving there, but it sounds wonderful. Those boys are growing and so precious. You'll have to frame that picture and keep it close. Spun sugar? How brave you are to attempt it. I've seen it done, but what a mess I would make with that. The cheesecake picture should be in a cookbook - it is so professional looking and I don't think I've ever had a bad cheesecake. Fall is finally coming here at the farm, though it has been very warm so far. Makes me wonder what is causing the leaves to turn.
ReplyDeleteGuess what?
DeleteThe first soun sugar I made Friday..I had to throw the pot away..burnt to a burning crisp..I used 2 old pots..second one was ok..but not the sugar..
I am going to pass from now on..I made it once before..from a rolling pin..on filberts..I guess I lost my touch..
I made a huge mess..
They are real little dears..
I never imagined boys could be so affectionate.
Busy..but sweet too..
Looking forward to seeing yours soon...
Penny Lane must have changed so much!
Such precious times, a lovely dessert cake for your thanks giving celebration, lovely photos of your beautiful grandsons. Stick with your old mobile phone Monique, I was made to feel like an old ' fuddy duddy' as my son called me & went along with their advice ( i won't listen next time ) during the summer we were at last able to get fast speed internet so while we were in the shop changing our internet server I foolishly listen to the sales person ( never again) and now I have a Smart-phone which I need to take a degree before I can use the dammed thing, and to top it all we still don't get a signal where we live, for mobile phones One of my grandsons suggested., I could if I climbed onto the roof and stood on one leg,.. so even if I did know how to use it I can't and now I don't even have my old mobile, as I gave that to the sales assistant who told me they get re-cycled to send to the 3rd world countries where-ever they might be . So hold on tight to your antique mobile. I wish I still had mine. Hope I never have an emergency situation. Mr France does have an antique mobile but it would probably need charging if he can find it !!!
ReplyDeleteOh that would be me!
DeleteI would regret my roundish flip antique..Standing on the roof on one leg)
Barbara that cracked me up:)
Poor you..
I have made worse decisions in my life though..I hope you familiarize yourself with it..all our adult children have smart phones.. let alone when Caroline asks me to text her husband back when we are in the car..he knows it's me..TYPOS..hysterical.
Just when I thought you couldn't make a more beautiful cake than the ones in the past, you really outdid yourself this time. Your cheesecake is a work of art. I guess it just happened to be the way everything was arranged on my screen today, but right across from the picture of those adorable boys is your picture. I realized for the first time how much they resemble their Nana.
ReplyDeleteSam
Oh I just looked..and that warmed my heart..no one ever says any of them look like me..The littlest..Oli..has my father's family looks more than anyone..Noah is such ..a perfect blend of his mom and dad..but they look alike;)
DeleteMax and Lucas.. a bit of their parents each one..
The cake was a hit taste wise with my whole family..
Oh!!

:) Gracias Rosa..
DeleteI got a smart phone almost two year's ago. So far, all it does is connect! But, I'm going to learn all about it while I'm still smart enough to!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving! Hope you are enjoying turkey sandwiches now. Darling photos of the boys.
Best,
Bonnie
You need to add Retrica:) Look how cute the pics turn out..!
DeleteHaha, I only just recently got a smart phone, but all I really do is do the basics on it, so I'm not even sure what use it is. Although maybe to take gorgeous pictures like that ;)
ReplyDeleteThis cheesecake looks amazing! I'm celebrating Thanksgiving today, and I am a little daunted about making turkey for the first time ever...
Enjoy Cathleen:) I am sure it will turn out like everything else you do! Perfect!
DeleteIt's beautiful here today I bet it is in TO too..
Happy Thanksgiving.
The sound of those 3 words has me salivating.
ReplyDeleteMaple.
Cheese.
Cake.
And in your expert hands...one doesnt like to dwell too long.
They do go well together those words:) It's a perfectly heavenly fall day here today..Movieland.
DeleteThanks Carol.
Looks like you had a wonderful thanksgiving. The cheesecake is beautiful. I bet it was rich, you were smart to do small pieces. The photo of the boys is a keeper! They are growing up, no more babies. But it is a fun stage.
ReplyDeleteThey are a riot:) With still a very tender side..I hope they always keep it:)
DeleteSugar pies..all those decadent desserts are typical of QC.
I had one bite to make sure it was edible;)
What glorious pictures! The cheesecake sounds delicious and so photogenic dressed in maple leaves. They are the perfect cake topper for autumn and a Canadian Thanksgiving. The photo of the boys is priceless! Such sweet, happy faces. Looking at them must make your heart swell. I just added Retrica to my phone and can't wait to try it ;) I love how we learn the best things about technology from our kids! Thank you, Monique and Oli's Mom! ♥ I think you would love a smart phone!
ReplyDeleteYou almost had me convinced last year w/ the hone.. but the packages are $$$$ for fotos:)
DeleteRetrica.. you can't take a bad pic! Except of me.:(
Have fun w/ all the filters..Caroline's Olympus ..their latest one does that too..my mini Ipad has Retrica, but it's not ofen on me..I should carry it around more;)
Yes these sugary desserts are typical CDN TG fare..
Happy Thanksgiving, Monique! The boys are so handsome and getting so big! I agree with my friend Susan above, you would love an iphone! I save a lot using the coupons you can access from Snip Snap, etc. Plus I love tracking how much I walk everyday just by keeping it in my pocket!
ReplyDeleteYou are walking a lot? That is great!
Deletemaybe one day..I mean if I lose it I will have to:)
Love maple so much, I'm anxious to make this...perhaps for our Thanksgiving. Gorgeous photos...so cute of the boys.
ReplyDeleteNot much fall around here yet, although temps are no longer in the 90's....now the high 80's. A relief, believe me.
I am sure it's a releife..90's..can be tiresome..like 30 below;)
DeleteDo they have the maple leaf cookies in the US? When I am there I don't look for them:)
I think you would enjoy it!
It is so much fun to see the boys grow up! Sounds as though they provided "athletic" entertainment....I am thinking that anything on the trampoline would be a challenge these days. I have been a fan of maple always! This is definitely my answer to Thanksgiving dessert!
ReplyDeleteLike I loved seeing your grandaughter..many of us..have seen the Littles of each other since birth..time flies..
DeleteI was at Gardenbuddies w/ Lucas..memorable moments..
I am amazed from photo to photo how much they change..
Like 60 push ups..and sit ups and 700 trampoline bounces..
So funny..
Beautiful pics Monique, sounds like a wonderful celebration and I'm certain your cheesecake was a wonderful way to wrap it up! Those boys are precious, so full of life!
ReplyDeleteA lot of life:)Thanks Chris.
DeleteA great photo of the boys, a keeper. As is that cake, you outdid yourself Monique.
ReplyDeleteAmalia
xo
It was very easy to decorate:) No icing..nothing...Thanks Amalia..kids take the best photos..and pets:)
DeleteWhat handsome boys Monique! They look so happy and content. It sounds as if you had a lovely Thanksgiving from beginning to end. Like you I am a dinosaur with the phone. Mine is archaic and I can't even find it half the time. I only use it to text Todd if we are apart and I need something. Your cheesecake looks fabulous. I have not had a Maple Leaf Cookie in years. I always loved them. No such thing over here. They have always been my father's favourites also. I can imagine how lovely the cheese cake must have been with those in the crust and then on top. wowsa!! All of your photos are gorgeous as always! You have such an amazing talent and perfect eye for these things. Love all that you share! xoxo
ReplyDeleteIt was really nice..as you know our family is our social life..they have their own busy social lives..but at this point..they are ours..so I always leave knowing there's no one I would rather be with..J too.
DeleteToo many years maybe of seeing many people..funnily enough..my brother is the same way!
Marie..I think your strides in the efforts you are making for your condition are exemplary!
The cake looks beautiful - I love maple this time of year.
ReplyDeleteI can only imagine what you would do with this! YOUR spun sugar worked!
DeleteHI Monique!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful post...those boys are all models!! SO good looking...must have great genes,eh?
That cake sounds unbelievable...I need you to come and bake me one!! hahaha!
Looks and sounds like you had a glorious long weekend...and even got some time out in the gorgeous weather...

ReplyDeleteHave a ball Rita..
DeletePrends un p'tit café chez Paillard!:)
The black background is a black poster board from the $ store..I place it on a chair..where my food is..and lean it on the back wall..
Hello Monique, how are you? I am looking forward to your thanksgiving dishes and bakes. Also can not wait to see what are you planning to bake for this Christmas. I am thinking to make many different Russian ginger cookies-)) Love to visit your blog again.

Esme..Caroline has a Chihuahua..as you can see above..Ray..and a Teckel..:)Sam.
Deleteso cute..like Lucy.
Your young men are so handsome, Monique. It's shocking to see how fast they grow. My middle grandson is now as tall as I am. We are big cheesecake fans. I've never made a maple flavored one and the leaf cookies are such a pretty decoration. A turkey dinner sounds so delicious. I always look forward to ours.
ReplyDeleteI saw Madonna made your cake that I made too:) It was soo good..The Hazelnut one..
DeleteOh I know those boys will tower over me..and their moms..and one dad..But one dad is very tall he may be hard to beat.:)
I love turkey..and it's so nice that they do it..it seems now..every year..we all have a turn now ..I think..Christmas eve..Caro..morning/brunch..here..M's bday here..C'sand my bdays and M's..TG at M's..it all fell into place..we may switch it up again..but for now this works beautifully..there is much more to do at their homes for the boys..
usually Father's Day is here..Mother's Day..we 3 girls go out now;)
Your cheesecake looks delicious and I absolutely love your pictures they are so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteTrès gentil de votre part.:)
DeleteIt sounds like you had a lovely Thanksgiving. Of course, like myself, I know you appreciate any time spent with family.
ReplyDeleteAnd what a good looking group of young men you have there!
That cake looks like autumn perfection - the perfect ending to a special holiday dinner.
And yes, Monique, you can most definitely hear fall. xo
I know you hear it:)
ReplyDeleteI love the photo of the dear boys and your walk... such a beautiful day. A celebration of thanksgiving for sure.
ReplyDelete:) Thanks so much for always saying such nice things about the boys:)
DeleteThe boys will always remember your special day together. Your photos will be a keepsake forever!! As usual I want to make everything you make!! The maple cheesecake looks so pretty with the leaf cookies.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Jody
Vice versa!
