It is a holiday weekend here in QC..starts tomorrow..St-Jean-Baptiste day~
Next weekend is also a holiday here..Canada Day~
Two long weekends in a row..
Blooming in June..still some Irises..but mostly Peonies and Roses..
right now though..cahfers are eating away at every rose:( these pics were taken just before the invasion:(
While in Paris..I had reminders of what may be waiting for me..
and most did wait for me♥
My whites..pinks..reds..multi..single petaled..froufrou petaled..multi petaled..waited for me.
My rhubarb went forth and prospered and my neighbor had brought me some..(so sweet).
I had Pinned a recipe on a blog I visit because his photos are sublime..and his recipes are great:)
You can find Dorian's blog here..as well as the recipe..
I had to bake mine longer.maybe because I decided to Convect bake..;)
You poke the amaretti in the middle once baked..and brush the rhubarb syrup on top while still warm.
I kept some of Jacques' Erlenmeyers..and still use them..20 yrs after his retirement ..
I have to recommend this set again..I used the smallest one for this cake..7 inch scallop..it's a set by Euro Tin..and I paid under $20.00 on Amazon Canada..2015..they don't seem to be available affordably anymore.
Everything comes out just right with them.
The flower shops ..and market stand flowers are BEAUTIFUL..in Paris..if I lived in Paris..on the outskirts..and could have one shop..it would be a flower shop.
I would keep something that was freshly baked ..to offer free of charge...at point of purchase..walk home w/ a Madeleine..fresh flowers..a baguette,Marie Cantin cheese and some wine.~
I don't know how they keep so many gorgeous flowers ..I know that on rue Cler..I loved seeing them..and women would make their own bouquets..picking a few of these..a few of those..to make substantial ,large ,works of art..All wrapped with a paper and string.
I had made myself a promise..even if we were only there 7 days..I would buy a bouquet of ranunculus..there were NONE to be had.
So no flowers..
We had a florist in my little town and it closed down.
It's a ghost town in winter..a tourist area in summer..
she did my eldest daughter's flowers...for her wedding.
Every flower shop in Paris was a work of art to me.
Charming..or what?♥
Bon Weekend~
Such a lovely post. If I lived in the outskirts of Paris and could visit one shop, it would be yours Monique and I would hope you would have the rhubarb cake for an appreciation token on the days I would visit. I would be sure to buy a huge, beautiful bouquet from you, Madame!
ReplyDeleteMerci Chris..et merci encore pour les renseignements concernant Paris:)
DeleteWe have the same blooms, peonies and roses. Peonies are now done as of this week.
ReplyDeleteOn Martha's Vineyard we would stop along the road and leave money for a beautiful bouquet in the little cash box.
I could see you offering your your rhubarb cake for appreciation! I'd love to find that pan you have.
I found the pan on Ebay...double what you paid.
DeleteI will look too for you..I couldn't believe it when I saw the prices at Amazon..I wondered about the pan..not being non stick and it's been great w/ a spray..I made that apple cake with it not sure if you remember..it turned out so well..even w/ a parchment at the base for double protection;)
DeleteI bet you are out and about in the garden just oohing and ahhing at all those gorgeous flowers. Roses hate me or my area as I have tried every kind and they always end up with black spot. I wish I could grow the fragrant ones and old roses. My peonies are long gone but all the flowers are gifts I think. Rhubarb cake - it sounds heavenly. I used to want a fruits and vegetables stand with jams and flowers. If only the temperatures didn't get up to 100 degrees and more in the summer.Wouldn't our grand babies have fun working those stands with us...
ReplyDeleteI heard from Carline that Lucas..and Lucca did a lemonade stand and made $30.00:) So yes I think they would be a great help and fun..
Deletemy rose chafers were so bad yesterday..hope there are a few less today!
Oh my you have the most beautiful peonies I've ever seen! I can almost smell their aroma. Love the cake too - very pretty. Have a happy weekend.
ReplyDeleteJacques always says..too bad they don't last long and it is true..from now to the end..noting is as showy..:)Happy weekend to you too!
Deletei've just been catching up on your blog and saw the wonderful photos of your trip to paris, how amazing you took such great photos, and then when i came to this post i thought the garden photo was still a part of your trip, but its yours and its so so pretty and my gosh that cake is so pretty too.
ReplyDeletehope your having a wonderful june with lots of flowers :)
I hope your summer is going well..we're experiencing fabulous holiday weather here..each day filled with blue skies and sunshine..you're so nice Jenni..always.
DeleteOh Monique, your Peonies are so pretty. I can imagine you having a flower shop in France with your delicious treats.
ReplyDeleteThey are fleeting though..too bad..other things will come..but not as wow..
DeleteI like shop owners..they work so hard to keep their stores afloat and doing well.
DeleteMerci:)
Your garden is so beautiful Monique. Your hard work really shows. I can see you having a flower tea shop, with gorgeous blooms and fabulous baked goods! I think it would be very popular, especially if you had tasty delights such as this lovely looking rhubarb cake on offer! That looks positively scrumptious! One thing I like about France is the open air markets. I could spend hours at them looking at all of the wonderful meats, produce, flowers, cheeses, etc. What a delicious smorgasborg of flavours, scents, and sight! xoxo
ReplyDeleteDo you have pretty markets too? I found a big difference between Italy and France in the markets...we have some here also..Jean Talon..Atwater..nice markets..I have a wee one here on Thursdays..and Finnigan's has stands too..but mostly brocante there..
DeleteI saw the news Marie..had you been able to get out and vote...how close!!
We did get out and vote. There was the largest turnout ever for any vote. 77% of Britains turned out. It was very close indeed. I saw an old woman with her walker struggling to get there and back. We offered her a lift home, but she said she wasn't far. That was how important this vote was to people here in the UK.
DeleteSuch pretty peonies. They not only look beautiful but smell so good.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever noticed that florists and bakeries often are situated side by side? And on Sunday morning, they are about the only businesses open--people pick up a baguette and maybe a gâteau to take to the Sunday dinner with family or friends, along with a bouquet of flowers for the hostess.
I did notice..it is a custom I loved seeing..the bouquet and food shopping..On rue Cler..you do everything between the market shops..charming.
DeleteOh Monique, your flowers are simply stunning. Everything is so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad that you had a marvelous time in Paris.
So HOT here, loosing so many of my plants - everything just burned.
Mary
I hear youMary..I have to go see what's been happening..I have been away..coming to see:)
DeleteHow nice that your peonies waited for you to get home and rain seems to have spared them too. They must have wanted to cheer you up from your bad adventure on the metro. The cake looks wonderful. Enjoy the weekend!
ReplyDeleteYou too Terry...:)
DeleteI'm happy that you had your beautiful flowers to welcome you home from your trip. They were certainly a bright spot and I'm sure gave you a lot of pleasure after a less than perfect trip. I hope life is all sunshine and roses from now on. :)
ReplyDeleteThe trip got better:)
DeleteThings happen right? It's always worse on the spot..
time helps and we were taught a valuable lesson..kind of weird though..in summer I usually just bring a straw market bag everywhere..and some don't close..and my walllet is quite visible..I never paid attention and leave it in the basket even at Costco..yesterday I got sidetracked..and wandered off..but not before asking Jacques to watch my purse:(
That's the part that s a lesson..but sad in a way.
Our ex neigbor never ever locked her doors..and would leave for the day..
That would be great roses and sunshine..all summer:)
Hope you are having a lovely one..
Ooh la la! Your peonies and roses are glorious, Monique! We had a stretch of hot and dry which they did not like and seemed to bloom and finish faster this year, sadly. I still have to clean up the unsightly flower stems. That view from your garden gate is priceless! Darn chafers! I saw the first Japanese Beetle here too and they will be having a feast here soon :( I can just picture you with a flower shop and offering your customers parting treats. You would end up running a pastry shop instead after they would taste othem :) Sorry you didn't find the rannunculus! They were part of Lindsay's wedding flowers along with the peonies and roses. They are so beautiful and buy them when I find them too. Love the little flower shop!
ReplyDeleteI find that's a perfect trio..ranunculus..peonies and roses..♥
Deletebefore we arrived..was rununculus season I think..when we were there..Susan..the big fat buds of fresh cut peonies were like a painting..and roses..and tall stems of what looked like larkspur w/ a heavenly scent..must look them up..
They are disgusting the chafers..:(
I HATE them.
My peonies are coming to the end too..it's been too warm..and not enough water/rain..
never happy.
~ The Malcontent.
The flowers are so gorgeous...as well as your cake! :) Have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteYou too:)
DeleteYou have so many peonies, all looking so beautiful. I only have two plants and not the colour pink I thought they were going to be. I couldn't bare to see so many like you have, bashed down by heavy rain. There is always a pretty flower shop even in small towns, but I find so expensive. I like to pick flowers from my garden or wild flowers, to offer as a hostess gift or buy a plant that will last much longer than pretty posies that cost a fortune.
ReplyDeleteI saw bunches of peonies, for 12 euros..the bunches of flowers seemed to range 12-14 euros..
DeleteI am still dreaming about the twig borders you have Barbara..I would be happy w/ one bed like that..I wonder why we don't have them here..
I am glad your beauties waited for you...I love your vision of YOUR flower shop in France....(write a story about it? Illustrate it? with photos and/or little paintings? Oui!!) I can see you as le personnage principal! ) Yes, charming...
ReplyDeleteHappy Holidays! My favorite library in Quebec City is Bibliothèque Saint-Jean-Baptiste...
:)
DeleteI started the workbook this afternoon..Betty Edwards:)
Wonderful idea Rita:) Thank you.
Such pretty garden photos. I too once thought that the perfect thing to do would be proprietor of a flower and harp shop. Now I would add art. I like the idea of creating a book of what your florist shop would be like. It is beautiful here today. Looks like it will be a lovely weekend.
ReplyDeleteWe have been having weather that summer movies are made of..except things are truly parched..
ReplyDeletedo you play the harp Gail?:)
Blue skies..burnt grass..pops of colored blooms here and there..the beaches must be packed..I know my daughter and family have been living at the yacht club:)
It must have been nice to return to the splendor of your garden.
ReplyDeleteIt's looking so burnt now A!!!
DeleteBut yes..it was really nice to come back home..it always is isn't it?
Thanks again for the camera..I keep saying it:)
Did I tell you I found the exact one that broke?
But rechargeable batteries..the aa's:( So yours..once again fit the bill!
Ya never know do you:)
Hope you are enjoying your new camera:)You're so quiet..wedding preps?
DeleteWhat a lovely flower shop you would have, Monique. A bouquet and a treat - lovely.
ReplyDeleteI had a little shop on Long Island for several years before we moved to upstate NY. On weekends I would sometimes set out a plate of homemade cookies or some chocolate dipped strawberries and mimosas on Sunday. Ah, such sweet memories.
I thought I had read something to that effect..:)
DeleteI bet you loved what you did..
I can see in your posts..a lot of care..and I am sure your shop..demonstrated that.
Years ago..a friend who was dear at the time..said she could see us later in years having a shop..
Now..I know..pipedream.I had a feeling years ago..I have little :"knowings"...
Monique, I would stop at your flower shop everyday for a bouquet of flowers🌷, baguette and one madeleine, please!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Jody
