How did September happen overnight?

It Did..

It really did happen overnight..and we are heading into Labor day w/ a forecast of perfection.

I know why..It's Oli's birthday week:)♥

The blue hydrangeas are so pretty right now..w/ all stages on my shrub at once..bébé..that white yellow blue just happening..bright blue..starting to fade blue..and pale greenish/blueishbeautifulish.

The first day of Sept..no matter how summery..says apple to me..
I made 4 little individual apple crisps..
I do like that dessert..pick any recipe really..just make sure you add cinnamon..nutmeg and cardamom.

I follow Liz Steel on IG since I started..and she suggested ..sketching ..5 days in a row..a routine we have..I picked my coffee/tea routine..we have so many lovely cups..for breakfast I always reach for the big clear ones..

So there you have them..some coffee some tea..
I have pre-ordered her book that you will find at the link..because my architecture..sucks.Haha I love that risqué word;)

another blog I follow in painting is Anita Davies..
one day she sent some of her readers color dot cards..I thought..how cute..all the way from England..and saved them..like a treasure..

until I saw a post..that mentioned dot cards and how handy they were..because you actually paint w/ the dot..to see if you love the color..

on the cards that Anita sent..3..I was able to do 2 of the mugs and could have done more..but I was trying this and that..

I actually bought a DS card since then..worth it to not buy colors you don't even like!:)

I am  adding links to some artists I love to follow..and will add..as I cannot write them all down at once..:)

Rita..mentioned on my last post..if I was going to post the 4 watercolors we did while at Blueberry Lake..
So I have..
And yes Rita is a blog I love and follow.

The top left is Mylène's..she used the travel Sennelier kit I bought her..

Frédérick's is to the right..he used a Raphael Travel kit w/ it's brush that I brought..
Caroline's is bottom left..and she used a waterbrush and the WN travel set I brought...that's Fred in the pic:)she was sitting in front of him at our large dining table..looking out to the trees..and I am to the right..I was trying to channel a video Anne-Laure posted..about mangoes..using the watermelon..(lol)you can try and paint like others..but you just can't nail it.

You all know I love Carol's work..and Vivian's work..Shari's work..and Marc's work..Gail's work..she  plein air paints with her equally talented husband Hugh..in a beautiful place on earth.
Marie's and Ronelle's..
And now Nora's..I am quite nuts about her work too.
I am just all over the place..in awe.
I still love Susan Branch's work alos..it all started in the 80's for me.The present link brings you to a very special birthday.
So many friends!!!

Hope you get a chance to view some of my favorite sites..I have some IG ones also..one day I'll share those..
Enjoy the long weekend!

  1. I picked your watermelon out right away. But, goodness, you have several talented artists in your family. Thanks for sharing other artists you like. I think I'll go take a look at their work.

Your hydrangeas still look so good. Mine have faded and I'll need to prune them very soon.

Happy Labor Day! Hope you have a nice weekend. We are having rain from T.S. Hermine today. I don't mind, we need the rain and I've worked outside in the gardens all week.

  2. Nothing says September like apples. I've been thinking of making one lately too. Blue hydrangeas are my favorites, but I seem to have only whites and pinks. Just picked some green ones to put in a vase; they are floppy and I hope they dry pretty. I enjoyed looking at all the links. All different. I would think architecture would be the hardest. I love all the sketching first. Believe it or not, sometimes I don't sketch at all and just put brush to paper. Perhaps because of oil instead of watercolor. Have the best weekend and Oli's birthday. Bella's is Monday.

    1. :) These Littles..♥
I have tried putting brush first and have liked it..but I need way more prectice..and I find I am quite smitten w/ the loose line of pens in some of the artists I have shown here.
      I can't dance..I guess that is why I don't paint..loosely..
I took ballet and loved that..but I was 10 and under..it was structured etc..once you danced outside of a routine..I wa Elaine on seinfeld:)

  6. I know exactly what you mean about September, I was shocked when I looked at the bottom of my computer and saw it was September. This year is passing way too fast. Love how you painted the clear mugs so well…I don't think that is easy to accomplish.

  7. I LOVE all of individual watermelon water colors. So fun imagining you all sitting and painting together! So sweet, your mention! :) I love the perfect light you caught in the photo of the hydrangea with the window background. I found 5 still blue hydrangea and picked them all tonight. They are in a vase with some Russian Sage. Mmmmmm. The rest are mostly green and pinkish. I also raided all of the roses that were blooming and cut them. The hurricane is coming this way and we are expecting heavy rain possibly on Sunday. Have a lovely weekend my friend.

Give me a bit of time..I will make you one from some of my fave colors..The large Daniel Smith one...was bought at my local art store..the 2 Anita sent me are on 4 by 4 cards I think..2 of them.
I never thought of putting my Russian Sage with them and my Russian Sage is all toppled..I have very few roses left...in fact some of my wild ones burnt with our drought and watering ban:(Stay safe!

    2. PS..it was nice painting with them..the watermelon was on a wood board with the knife..we all had a different view of course..and they painted to humor me I am almost sure..but they did relax I found ..while we painted..Caroline's with Fred in her painting..so funny and cute.
I love those Sennelier colors in the oh so small kit..no white palette though..see through lid.

    3. I was at the "Blick" store this week and got a few tubes of Watercolor since my blues were down to the edges. I think they have the pan replacements on line (but too impatient) I have a white tube also.

  9. Where do I start! There is so much to love here. Firstly a family that paints together. How utterly, utterly wonderful. I love that you all love the same things that way and your paintings are just wonderful. (Happy Birthday week to Ollie!) Loving the watercolour dot samples. I have never seen such a thing before. How cool that you can use them! Your hydrangea are still so beautiful. Ours are looking quite wilted and blah now . . . the colour is fading fast, and so many leaves are changing now. Perhaps we are in for a cold winter? I don't know. I love all that you share. Do create a link list of the art blogs so I can find them easily also! (I am greedy methinks) Apple crisp screams September to me! Must bake some soon! Have a fabulous weekend! Happy Labour Day! Love and hugs. xoxo

  10. Happy Labor Day! Yes I can't believe it is so busy with birthdays this month. Beth today, Katherine is September 11. Both my parents were September too. Wish Oli a happy birthday! I like the idea of four smaller crisps. I imagine Jacque is happy to have his September apples treat. Soon, we will be doing Kim's apple pie. Enjoy your Labor Day and Oli's birthday celebration.

  11. Beautiful Labor Day weekend here as well! We also have birthdays to celebrate :) Lindsay on Monday, the 5th (she was indeed born on LABOR Day that year - haha) and then Mack two weeks after on the 18th. John's mother was September 8. I remember when Oli and Mack were born so close to each other :) It's shocking how quickly summer has flown. The light has changed. Our favorite place to sit outside before dinner is in the shade now where just a couple of weeks ago there was sun. Let's hope fall is kind to us all this year :) The smell of apples baking is one of the joys of fall! How I wish I could grow blue hydrangeas. I've tried every trick. It's all in the soil. My Limelight has gone bonkers this year. I love the watermelon paintings that you did while on vacation together! Each one has a great interpretation included in it. I like my watermelon with salt too, just like yours :) And, your coffee and tea - very well done! Great idea to use the dots of paint. Off to visit your links!

  13. Time does have a way of marching on, doesn't it? I think summer just started and now it's on it's way out the door. When I was 8yo, I had a friend who was 9. She told me one day "the older you get, the faster time goes". She was right!! :) It took me awhile to figure that out but she was definitely right! Hello September!!!!!

  14. Oops, I think I just lost a comment...so, I wrote Yay! for showing us the watermelons! I love them all, but yours has such a fluid painterly quality. How fun that must have been to try out all those materials and paint together. The coffee tea: Lovely luminous light that you captured and the liquid quality! I love how you share the joy and the resources. Merci encore une fois!! So happy to be learning along with you. It is a beautiful first weekend here. I love moving into the energizing fall. Lots of activities going on here on the Maine coast...but I also am enjoying Home in this gorgeous Weather.
I'm going to do a post on my materials discoveries soon! I just found some "watercolor crayons". I wonder if you've tried those...Bon week-end, Monique!

I have no clue what she did w/ them..I never saw her paint or draw.
I have so many unanswered questions..
