Bonne Année~
Happy New Year~
I love that gate above..
Christmas has come and gone~
It was so white and so pretty~
So much work for Jacques..and the snow removal people..but a Christmas..as if a postcard~
I love the feeling of a snowy day..walking into my daughter and son-in-laws' home Christmas eve and getting that feeling..
Christmas is a feeling..
the preparations..anticipations..yes..that's Christmas..
It's a feeling..that there is so much good around us.
Have to hang onto that..
It's seeing my family together..the ambiance my daughter creates..the food..the delicious food Fred prepped for days.
I think he could have fed "The Hill♥" ~Wink to Amanda;)
Looking at The Littles table..seeing Lucas now at the big table..having Giuliana and Adamo want to be with us on the eve..they are big kids now..adults..they could chose to be with friends etc..so nice to have them..
Giuliana is an expert make up artist:)Caroline gave her a perfect framed print with :"I came ,I saw,I contoured"~
♥ She loved it.
I was quite excited to give Adamo knives.. I think he liked them..he told me he makes a few awesome chicken dishes.
Fireworks..thanks to BIGGER BOYS we had fireworks..as I watched I thought who is this lucky..? These Littles are soo lucky..family..food and fireworks.:)And a TON of snow!
The eve was brilliant.. blue skies and freshly fallen snow..in between cake etc preps..I went for a walk and snapped some nature..that is Christmas too..reflecting on the beauty of nature..not man made..
In the afternoon..my son-in -law and his dear friend came over and I aksed them to bring the cake over..heavy..:)
Lovely lovely Christmas eve. From beginning to end.
I know it's different for everyone..I read blogs where families are flying off to one family..sharing events..TG at one..Christmas at the other.. here we all live close..so close ..as in across the street down the lane..and the other 15 minutes away.
We've always done the eve and morning..my daughter took over the eve..Fred's mom..it's always Christmas day dinner..
So so far there has not been a conflict of places.
Everyone is so different.
Here Christmas is all about the others lol..Jacques and I exchange nothing..we stopped maybe 30 years ago.Wait maybe more..
He's not a giftie guy.Never has been..
..lol his first business trips when we were first married,he was 33 ..I was 20..I bawled my eyes out because he never brought back a souvenir.:(
I would eye his suitcase as he opened it..and ..nope..nothing.
I grew up the baby of the family..the only girl after they had lost one..
so you can well imagine that if they had an extra dollar..I would be the recipient of something..small but that was us..
when I first started making money..babysitting..I would buy my mom something..she had a collection of el cheapo porcelain:)
But we did that..little tokens of love..
Ohmgee what a learning curve..
I must say though..I don't like lists and wish lists..I am an impossible romantic and I think you just know what someone would love..
I batted zero with J too at the beginning..I loved turtlenecks and corduroy blazers w/ patches..(Ryan O'Neal,Love Story lol)..he hates them ..hates anything around his neck....so honestly ..can't fault him .
He had the courtesy of wearing a jean shirt I embroidered for him..one year..OMGEE..brave man.
One thing made me so sentimental..if you have one moment..go read this..At Sarah's..she posted it on Instagram..♥
Christmas day itself.. it was a tad cloudier..but after lunch..in the aft..when everyone had left here..I strolled up the street and marveled at the sweet homes and how different things look in the snow..
Just like postcards every time I turned my head.
Different than Provence postcards..yet postcards nonetheless..
So ..2018.. let's hope it is gentle to all of us.For all of us.
PS.. The cake.. the cake was cute and I was excited by it..but the taste? Again..I should stick to tried and trues like a great chocolate cake..this was from COUNTRY LIVING..where I got the inspiration for the candy cane theme..
I made my icing..but their cake..not FAB..plus we are all so full by the time dessert comes around..:(
Sounds so terrible when so many have no food..
One of my dishes breakfast morning..lol bake time said 30 minutes..NO WAY Jose..more like 1 hr plus..
Southwestern breakfast strata
Not sure how it got 5 stars..
I made my 28ozs can of tomatoes weigh 20..and added 1/2 a can of diced hot peppers.. drain all well also..like I did or you could have soup.
Finally..Happy and healthy New Year to you....
I am looking forward to everything you all share so generously throughout the year.
I am sorry for the losses some of you have had this year.. so sorry:(
I am sorry for the ill health of some..
work worries..
no work worries..
family concerns,money concerns..
The floods..the fires.. the weather..the attacks..
I hope everything is so much better in 2018.
SOMUCHBETTER.

Extreme Cold Warning
Quebec
11 mins ago – Environment Canada
A multi-day episode of very cold wind chills continues. Bitterly cold Arctic air combined with brisk winds are generating wind chill values of minus 30 to minus 38 across ...
I LOVE all of the red shutters, red doors, cake decor, winter jackets ♥ How wonderful everything looks with a thick blanket of white snow. We have maybe an inch or so on the ground but at least it was a somewhat White Christmas :) Bitter cold here also the past few days but not as cold as you! We were thankful for no frozen pipes :) Our kitchen faucet pipes will freeze as the sink was build right above a huge window well.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you had a wonderful Christmas! We always celebrated on Christmas Eve but things changed when Lindsay got married. Now we have Christmas Day - all day with our family so no complaints! Thankful to have our family living here and not spread all over the country.
I am sending you an email about a recipe you shared years ago. Check your email soon :) XXX
:) I just did..wrote you back twice..of course..thats what happens when you are quiet ..you make up for lost time..
DeleteKenny and Fred looked so cute.. as if they had called each other to say:"Hey what are you wearing?":)
Nice men..very nice men..:)Can't wait to hear about your Christmas w/ pics..beautiful pics..:)x
It all looks beautiful Monique. I can't imagine how you did that. It is freezing here too and will get down to 8 degrees one night. Very worried about the pipes. I came home to the farm for weenie vet visit and my doctor too. I have been with her since she started her practice and just don't want to find a new one. She said she is going to retire in a couple of years so I'll have to get a new one then. These days, medicine is so different in the States and many doctors are retiring in their fifties. I have so much to do at the farm, but I'm headed back tomorrow night before icy precipitation. It worries me. But, I see lots of yellow and orange in my greenhouse, so I better get out there and start picking.
ReplyDeleteBelieve me..medicine has changed a lot here too.
DeleteI am hoping for a whole new generation of devoted caregivers..It's a vocation..not a job..
You either decide to dedicate your life to trying everything you can to help others..in all walks of medicine..dental etc..or get a different profession.
I sound harsh..I am .
Some are dedicated and have made it their life's mission to have empathy and administer their very best care.
I love those.
Many can't even get a doctor ..waiting lists..we need new doctors..hope it's not our weather frightening them..
BRRR..
I know we have a lot of great vets:)♥
But you couldn't stand the cold here..this is unusual though.
And Omar Sharif isn't here nor do I have Julie Christie's great hat;)
Have a nice day..and Happy NY Donna.. hope to see bébé soon:)
Beautiful photos and I love the house with the red shutter and doors! It is cold here in NC. Not as cold as you, but 21 degrees F here.
ReplyDeleteThat is perfectly balmy Penny! Happy New Year:)That house goes on and on..more dormers..garage..sits beautifully on the lot:)
DeleteI saw Kenny and Fred holding the beautiful cake in their red coats on IG and it looked so cute. Like they wore the red coats to match the cake. I will always remember that picture!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Monique! Can you imagine walking around NYC in these frigid temps? Yesterday we walked around for five hours and ducked into a few stores and took a lunch break to warm up.
Fun..geesh you guys are fun..Is it as cold in NYC? All I suggested was old Mtl one day to see the holidays and I got no takers..of course I don't drive there so someone would have to.Country bumpkin I shall remain..hope you post pics:)
DeleteSome pics stay with us you are right..and then..even when we see them yrs later..it all comes back:)
Happy New Year nana.
What a gorgeous snowfall - I wish you would send some our way! One good snow makes me happy but I guess I would get tired of it later. Your cake is a masterpiece - sorry it was not as delicious as it looks. Happy New Year Monique! Blessings to you and your lovely family in the coming New Year!
ReplyDeleteLove the snow..it's the cccold..makes us hibernate even more..Happy everything to you too Tricia..thanks for all your sharings:)
DeleteHappy New Year Monique! Blessings to you and your family in the coming New Year!
ReplyDeleteRoger
Et vous :) Merci Roger de prendre le temps de me la souhaiter bonne cette nouvelle année.
DeleteBeautiful picture's Mon....it's too cold!!!!
ReplyDeleteOur fireplace hasn't taken a break....love it.
Love all the red....🌹
Happy New Year along with Health, Peace and Happiness!Di🎉♥️
The same to you Di!Ours is roaring too..have o go out tomorrow ad dreading it..I know how much you love red..and cherries..etc:) Bet you had a feast on Christmas Day :)
DeleteOh Mon out today...over dress is my advice!
DeleteI made Italian Wedding Soup, Stuffed Pork etc. but Paolo wasn't well, poor guy!
Take care~
I need PICS Di! I love IWS:)Porcetta?:)
DeleteOh, Monique! That cake recipe may not have been to your liking, but it looked FABULOUS! And, how perfect, the guys in red with the beautiful ornaments and light shining through! Brings the Christmas feeling... it is about the feeling. I so love that you all live so close together and share so much of life. I think it is everyone's dream. And, you appreciate it. Wonderful. Just wonderful. Our daughter and family arrived Wednesday night then woke up sick yesterday morning... our fun has been dampened... at least for the moment. Still fevers this morning. I'm hoping it passes quickly. Still... the love. Precious, I say. ;) I'll take them sick and all anytime. I do so hope it is somuchbetterin2018 for everyone, every where! Happy New Year, sweet lady! blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteI hope they mend quickly!
DeleteOne thing you must remember is that even though they live so close..we do not see each other every day..ahve ot seen them since Xmas.. except Noah just came to the door w/ a receipt for earmuffs I bought..lol for me..awful..but on the box..in small print..not recommeneded for children under 36 months.:):):)
They have young families ..households ..jobs..friends..lol..etc..they are so busy..
And I guess we were them once too:)
I am very grateful..out of every fringe benefit my job gave me..the proximity of both familes..? My best.
YESSOMUCHBETTERFOREVERYONE♥
xox
Paris is 46 degrees and non-stop pitter patter.
ReplyDeleteI will never complain again!
WOW the snow.
Bon Courage M!!
I am actually going out tomorrow morning LOL..46 is balmy ..!
DeleteWhat a gorgeous White Family Christmas you had!! I love the Red and White. It is up to one degree F here, was 10 below earlier this morning. Christmas Day we were snowed in, cozy and warm.
ReplyDelete(PS Did you get a little packet from me yet?)
Oh my gosh Rita..no..I did reply on a previous post..this has been a Charlie Brown Christmas Tree postal service..it's never good..never..sorry Canada Post but never good..however apparently Dec 1rst we were left w/out a mailperson..so supervisors kicked in....
DeleteSo nothing Xmas eve.. and of course no mail Xmas and boxing day..today J went out..and nothing..so I think things should be here by Valentine's Day:(
I do live in the country though w/ mail delivered up the road ..in key boxes..that freeze..he did get it open ..and no..nothing..you know me..I would write you right away:)Thank you in the interim ♥
Monique, it is cold here for us, but nothing like your cold! We are so spoiled with such nice winters. Cold enough for sweaters, coats, and cozy fires in the fireplace, but no snow to shovel. The snow is pretty, but I know it is not easy to live with such conditions. I guess you adjust and it is what it is. Like the heat here in summer. A neighbor who moved here from the north said he loved living in Texas. He said, "You don't have to shovel heat!" I smile every time I think of that conversation!
ReplyDeleteYour cake is beauty to my eyes. I'm sad it wasn't as tasty as you had wanted, but my oh my is it gorgeous! I can visualize your sweet family celebrating together. Of course those boys want to spend time with you and J!
Stay warm my dear friend and happiest of times as we move into the New Year. May 2018 be filled with all that you list above. We are indeed lucky folks, and we must be grateful. 😘
Well Texas looks good..I know we could not do Fl all year and of course by now w/ family..I could never leave..I bet our kids spend 6 months away later..much later..we have great aquaintances in the US because of Fl..some scoured FL and ended up in SC..they love it!
DeleteEveryone is so different..
I think..so far ..though.. if I had to move and could and everything was possible.. ce serait la Provence♥
We are indeed very lucky folks.I cannot even imagine the homeless here right now.
Loving your beautiful country snow pictures! The midwest has cold (minus 16 tomorrow or tonight) but very little snow :( That cake may not have stood up to your tastebuds, but it sure is pretty. Wishing you a quiet-but-joyful Happy New Year's Eve!
ReplyDeleteIt will be very quiet:) I am so good with that.
DeleteI wish you everyting good Katrina:)
I can't believe another year has passed. It was delightful following along...seeing your travels, seeing the littles as they grow each year, marveling at your creativeness, your cooking. I'm looking forward to what you share with us in the new year. Wishing you and your family a very healthy and happy New Year.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe it either..some moments make me think time is at a standstill..and yet..the year unwound as quikly as a ball of yarn tumbling on the ground.
DeleteEnjy Fl..your orchard must be crisp right now!!Bonne Année!
Dearest Monique,
ReplyDeleteYes it looks really cold and wintery in your region and a perfect Christmas look.
As for firework for Christmas...? Good grief! It is meant to be Peace on Earth and quiet... have a number of those that use firework forgotten what all those songs were about?!
We did have a very serene and beautiful Christmas with midnight Mass at the Basilica of Immaculate Conception in Jacksonville, Florida. We did drive more south and have been enjoying the balmy and warm weather of 27 C.
Sending you hugs and wishing you a Happy New Year and hope everyone will be safe!
Mariette
Bonjour Mariette:)
DeleteChristmas..when we went to mass..and then later..when we went to mass..etc..as life unfolded..it was mostly quiet..
now with grandchildren and no mass..we are ensconced in their lives..and I must admit because my life is so quiet now..I love looking at my sky light up with joy.The children..the young adults and adults..all reveling in the excitement.
Once in a while..I feel fed by their exhuberance♥
I am grateful for that.
I wish you peace and much more as you know for 2018♥
I love all the pictures, all these reds and the snow, all is beautiful Monique.
ReplyDeleteYes, other year, Here we are in summer and ,are really hot. I love winter and autumn !
Happy New Year Monique to you and all of yours!
It has been unseasonably frigid..
DeleteHappy happy New Year to you and yours Gloria...In Excelsis Deo:) I love that name..Gloria:)
First of all, that cake is STUNNING! SO pretty! So next time, your favorite recipe but the same decorations! I know there were plenty of "ooohs" and 'ahhs!"
ReplyDeleteI loved each and every photo, and even more, each and every word. You tell such a beautiful story of a wonderful family that loves its traditions, its celebrations and foods and most of all, each other. That is such a gift. (And the fact that you live so close makes me more than a tad envious!) Your house made me swoon with that wonderful red door and trim in the white snow! It's a Christmas card in itself!
It's icy cold here, too -- in the minus-digits and wind chill making it all the more so. It comes with the territory but I confess, ten or 15 degrees warmer would be a plus. But with such love and coziness, all is well.
Thanks for your beautiful comments on the post-Christmas post and our sweet little guy. So, "Pearl," here's to another year of online friendship and maybe my next visit to Canada will bring us into the same orbit. I hope it happens one day but till then, much joy to you and your family. Somehow,I am confident that is in the cards!
I love the name ..Pearl..I guess I belong w/ Blanche Devereaux now;)
DeleteNot my house..but many have red accents here:) Fits in with Michigan and QC:)
I ike a tad balmie too..I mean 30's are going to feel positively tropical!
Fun to read about your life too..always keeping it real :)
I love that Jeanie.
Bonne Année!!
So much snow!!!! :O...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful picture.. Happy New year..loads of love and hugs..
Oh you too..A great one for you..no more renos!
DeleteSounds a lovely Christmas Monique, and a very snowy one! Loved the snow pictures. Not so fun for those who have to clear it up, but so pretty to look at. All of your photos would make beautiful cards, even the one with the guys holding the cake. They look excited and ready to tuck in! I loved reading all about your week. It sounds fabulous. What a blessing that you live so close to each other. I am so grateful, that although I am not just around the corner some in my family still make an effort to include me in their days via the facetime! Aren't we so lucky to have these modern blessings! I can almost picture you wandering around the neighborhood taking in all the beauty. You are a woman who lives life with gratitude. That is the key to happiness. I think Gratitude will be my word for 2018. I know I am generally thankful for all things, but I think in 2018 I will try to be even more thankful! Thanks so much for all you so generously share with us through the year Monique, and most especially for your sweet, sweet heart. You bless so many with your kind and gentle words and nature. God bless you, your family and your 2018. I hope it is very good to us all, and am looking forward to all that you share with us. xoxo
ReplyDeleteYou're so nice Marie..
Deleteand you are grateful..always..
Just a lucky draw from the deck of cards that they live close by.
And yes technology is great..I was talking to Alexa last night:)Well Dot.I have Dot..her little baby I guess..
She doesn't know everything but was surprised she translates English to French.. no Rod Stewart Auld Lang Syne though..what's up with that..
And than you for sharing in 2 places every single solitary day!
I don't know many that do that..actually 3 w/ IG!! Now you need to do STORIES:)
I do wander..I like having a camera and wandering..I think our moms.. could have had great blogs Marie don't you?;)
Have a wonderful day.
I know my mother could have. She has had such a fascinating life and was a great letter writer! Happy New Year! xo
Deletexox:)Toi aussi:)
DeleteYour photos look straight out of a fairy tale, Monique, so so beautiful. And it sounds like you had a wonderful holiday. I hope 2018 is equally good. HNY.
ReplyDeleteAmalia

A very cold tale:) You too sweet Amalia:)
DeleteLovely sentiments Monique...family love is certainly something to be cherished.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful evening...Happiest 2018...I am ready! hahaha!
Cheers!🎉🎉🎉

I'll have some wine.. Shrimp cocktail and call it a night:) I did crochet today though:)!
DeleteHNY!!
Still working on your blanket?
DeleteI am going to knit in 2018!!
Answered on your pretty today blogpost:)
DeleteWhat a beautiful post. So glad that you had a terrific Christmas. The snow is so pretty. That is the only thing I miss living in So CA. is the snow at Christmas.
ReplyDeleteYour photo's are stunning - thanks so much for sharing.
Wishing you a very Happy New Year.
Mary
Oh Mary..Happy everything to you this coming year:)
DeleteMerry Christmas and Happy New Year Monique! The town looks beautiful cloaked in snow. That tree with all the pine cones, wow! Does that indicate a rough winter? As I write it is -2.6 and has been frigid here for days. All I think of is you and wonder how you get through this on a yearly basis. The cake looks so pretty, too bad it was not as delicious. Jerry made one of his mother’s recipes. It is called a chocolate pudding icebox cake, aka in his family the chocolate bomb. It is a combo of lady fingers layered with a chocolate filling and then when set coated with whipped cream. Very light, lighter than her chocolate roll but similar. The trick is that this is made in a bowl that is lined with wax paper. So when you unmold it, you pray it stays together. It did! The kids moved into their new house on Friday!
ReplyDeleteI loved seeing L:) Thank you for that:)
DeleteIt's unusually bitter..this year.I stay in..I wear thermal under everyrhing and layers..socks ..etc..I love the sun thank God for the sun..but there are even warnings for us to NOT go out..like frostbite in 18 mins..Wednesday a reprieve..then polar cold again they said:( I can't snowshoe..not even take pics really the tips of my fingers seize..and stay that way for a while..not to mention my face w/ all it's quirks.
C'est la vie..
I have a nice roof..wam clothes.. food..many are not as lucky right now in this tempest of cold:(
That is exciting for the kids:) And you..Gerry sounds like he can give you a run for your money in the kitchen:)..well..almost:)
All the best..always Terry!
Oh he can give me a run for the money in the kitchen. Stay warm and bundle up in all your layers. My car battery died, we don’t have a garage. I hope Jerry’s car runs and he can wiggle his little Porsche out as I’m blocking him. Oy! What a winter so far.
DeleteI thought of him and his new car:) As I was reading about his cooking etc:)Fun :)Not fun the battery on yours though..so surprised my 7 yr old Fiat starts up right away..we have a carage but there's too much stuff in it for cars..plus..apparently a car in the garage..awful for humidity in winter..brakes..shot..
DeleteVery nice your blog and article. I like this blog thank for sharing.
