He's so photogenic:)
It was like they had planned to have matching clothes:)
Lots of gardening..some tea..some cups..some of my fave blooms..the Forget-Me-Nots,the lilacs, bleeding hearts and LOTV..all the pretty Spring blooms..Jack In The Pulpits..so many..it's feast or famine here.
Had a fun little outing..
Noah.his mom and I went to Alexandria..home of the Priest's Mill..
We had a nice lunch at The Quirky Carrot.. the staff was friendly and polite and welcoming.
I had a couscous salad..M and N had soup and sandwich combo..they loved the Sweetpotato split pea soup..desserts were brought home..
And right across the street is the mill where Eric Covington has set up shop..glassblowing.Sat was damp..wet murky when we headed out..it set the tone for my pics:)
My daughter had thought Noah would enjoy glassblowing..through AirBNB she booked a class for Noah and she.I came along and took pics..Class is about 1hr +..individually.
She was right..Noah's interest did not waiver one iota.
Noah was so into it..and even into watching his mom's private class.
Staff could not be nicer..Staecy was so sweet ..she is an artist ,makes her own paints..gardens..and glassblows.
Gab (Gabriel) could not have been more patient and interesting and professional. He studies glassblowing in Mtl..must be advanced because he is already a glassblower:)
It is so hot in a glassblowing place..lol!!
I love the stone walls..all the equipment..the window..the glass items were beautiful and art is available too.
During the week..I made Marie's KManis..I love Asian inspired dishes..even though what I eat is not pure Asian..it's the Americanized/Canadianized type..I knew I would love this sauce..
Go see Marie for her recipe:)
I also made a DELICIOUS salad..
Recipe came from my daughter ..source is RecipeTins' Crunchy Asian Chicken Salad~
Above..a photo w/out the dressing..I did water my dressing down a bit mine was too thick.
I could eat this salad once a week.
So good!!
Used rotisserie chicken;)
If you are in need a of a good Blackberry Muffin recipe ..ths could be it..
I used greek yogurt because I was out of sour cream..and sprinkled a touch of cinnamon sugar on top.I made half the recipe and got 6 good sized delish muffins.
You can find the recipe here.
Garden Journal
So lots of blue mauve and pink as I wrote above
The peonies are in buds
A few Irises have bloomed
In the morning..I go see the girls..Caramelle..and Bcassine..only Bécassine lays these days..fresh water..food etc..and garden while J is on the treadmill..
I come in and have a Keurig..and indulge in half a muffin ..lol above..so good!!
I often bake earlier in the AM..in my pj's.I like that.
I bought alfalfa pellets at the Co-Op where I buy my chicken feed.
I used to put the pellets around my roses and clematis and have not in years.
Fresh bag..have done many of the roses..almost all the clematis.
I am excited to see that 3 hollyhocks I transplanted against the front fence..have taken..and no rust like at the back so far. These are the black ones..if they do well I'll add my fave pinks and such.
I like ..no ..love.. hollyhocks.
I ripped out some Weigela..(no wonder my back barks)..the leaves come out too late.
I have one summer per year.Let it be alive.
I read I should never plant tomatoes before the Lilacs bloom..lesson learned.
Using my petunia food:)
Some Miracle Grow
Garlic is perfect again this year.God Bless Garlic.
Perennial spinach ..up..here and there ..I just pull what I don't want..I had pulled so much last year.
I guess that's it:)
Some days are diamonds some days are dust in a garden.
Some days I am overjoyed with my garden and think How can I be so lucky to have this pretty garden(s) :) Other days I think..Who am I kidding:(?
First few days in flip flops:)
Have a lovely weekend.
It all sounds fun! I have watched glass blowing but never participated. Your blooms are beautiful and I love your tea cozy.
ReplyDeleteThanks Penny! Have a great weekend..Further work on your French gardens:)
DeleteDear Monique,
ReplyDeleteI have read your blog for a while now, and wanted to comment today, to let you know how much I enjoy it! I love the pictures and your adventures, the things you tell us about!
Today, you mentioned how much you LOVE hollyhocks! we I do too, and I have a few in our little garden, coming up already, with many buds, ready to flower.
Last year they flowered too, and I have many seeds, so I'm wondering, would you like some? I'd be happy to send some, and hopefully they will like your garden too.
Please let me know if you like some. You can email me at;
gbostens@yahoo.com
Best wishes from holland!
Nicoline Bostens
I am going to first of all thank you for your note Nicoline(love your name)..and then I am going to say thank you...yes..I will say yes..perhaps I can send you some seeds from my gardens:)I am going to email you.I think I could start the seeds soon..they would have summer to get stronger and plant:)Thank you!
DeleteOh what a wonderful post today. Half a muffin? Would that I had that kind of appetite. Noah looks older. So precious. And what a neat thing to do - the glass blowing. I bet he was amazed. Your pictures are perfect today and the garden too. I am still waiting to find out if a big patch of plants are weeds or flowers. Mowers should come today and I'll ask him. Also just figured some plants are honeysuckle spreading through my garden. Oh no. And, our weather has gone from spring to summer in a flash. Second hottest May on record and April was second coldest. I can't handle the heat so it has to be early or late in the day. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteI wait for things too..weeds or reseed? LOL..you never know..He loved it Donna..Yes the last few days have been hot and humid and sunny..I will have to water seeds:) Some plants got too much rain at the beginning..may have lost them..time will tell..all this is a miracle:)♥
DeleteEnjoy the weekend..At first I read MOVERS..instead of mowers!!;)
I love my city house so much the only moving will be a forced one. And I'll be kicking and screaming. Found out the things I feared were weeds were indeed flowers. The giant weed I've been chopping down has still got some removal to do. I can't believe a weed could grow to 5 foot by 4 foot. Once I finally get it out I'll put some heavy pots of flowers over it to finally kill it - I hope.
DeleteI knew you loved it♥Want to know what that weed is:)Sumac?
DeleteI enjoyed this post, it is amazing how fast your garden has changed from snow to what it is now. Noah is growing up so quickly...just like your garden.
ReplyDeleteI know! Feast or famine..now we feast:) Noah will be 10 July 4th..the youngest..Oli will be 9 in September..all 4 boys have birthdays this summer and Giuliana and Adamo too:)17 and 19!When I met them they were 6 and 8..time flies..Have a nice weekend Karen!
DeleteWhat a fun day you had! That Noah is too cute, watch out girls!
ReplyDeleteI agree:) Right now he's a man's man though;)
DeleteGrrr, just lost my comment!
DeleteAs I was saying......It looks to be a fun get away. I think one on one time is important. I fondly remember those few times I had my mom all to myself. One of four children, most time we shared our mom's attention.
The Quirky Carrot looks charming and the glass blowing class is one Noah will long remember. Your Asian salad reminds me of one of my favorite and frequent salads here, Chinese Hack Salad. It's made with 3 kinds of cabbage, roasted chicken breast, and topped with Chinese noodles. The dressing is a creamy sesame mixed with a touch of spicy Chinese sauce.
Happy weekend as you enjoy those pretty blooms in your garden. Hot and dry here!
Your chinese Hack Salad sounds wonderful!Noah ..doesn't have to share ..he's Mylène's only child....You too enjoy all these lovely garden days:) Bet yours looks gorgeous.
DeleteLovely!! I'm also getting many broccoli from my backyard garden.. :)
ReplyDeleteHow fun Krishna!!
DeleteWow, what an adventure, and yes! he is very photogenic. Your love for him came through in the photos. As always, I marvel at your photos...The Quirky Carrot, how fun. In Quebec City our natural foods shop/café is La Carotte Joyeuse...(PS I never even got into Paillard, it was packed full of tourists each time I tried with long lines..)
ReplyDeleteOh no for Paillard:( I hope you tell us about your trip:)
DeleteYou know Rita..I felt my love for him in the pics too:) Thank you:)
Your photos are beautiful Monique! Your grandson is so handsome. What lovely pictures you took of him. Glass blowing is a fascinating art, and I imagine it could be dangerous too, with all that heat and molten glass! Lovely that you get to do these things with your family and your lunch sounds fabulous. That soup sounds amazing. And that Chicken salad looks fabulous! Hooray for salad days. Your garden is coming right along. I love these little glimpses into your life that you share with us. They cheer my heart! xoxo
ReplyDeleteThank you Marie:) he's a whirlwind:) He loved it..they pick up their pieces this weekend.we had quite an adventure on the way home..cell phone dead..no gas..hardly..no gast station..we got there through small farming towns:) Finally ..at a CLOSED station..the ONLY one..the owner lived across the street and saw us:) he came out and filled us up:)
DeleteSo funny..made the trip even more exciting;)
Loverly!
ReplyDeleteThe irises are done here...I will have to come over there to paint them ❤️
LOL!!:) I am sure Paris and it's magnificent gardens..way ahead of me..:)You must be into peopnies still though..there seems to be an neverending supply in Paris.Bets flower shops..ever.All those big beautiful varied flowers in storefronts.
DeleteHappy June 1st! I wish LOTVs would have lasted longer here. With 5 straight days of 90 plus farenheit they were very short lived and not photogenic when I picked them :( My big iris are already blooming because of the heat. Nice and cool today, thankfully! A good day to work outdoors again if the mosquitoes don't carry me off :) I love seeing the photos of Noah and his glass blowing glass! He is a handsome boy ♥ I think Mack would love that too. When he was here he talked about Story Jumper, a website where you can write your own book. He absolutely loved it and adding his own characters and backgrounds. Your boys might be too old for that already. Marie's salad and the muffins look wonderful!!
ReplyDelete:)
DeleteI should have said..Marie's sauce(Had it w/ California rolls last night) and RecipeTins salad:) oops I will have to check and reread....
Maybe Noah would like Story Jumper..will check..maybe Max too..
Lucas..a teen soon ..so probably not..and Oli..LOL.. he tells me sometimes he makes his teacher laugh..but not always...:;)Bearded Iris are blooming..a couple of others..happy they are before the rose chafers eat them..many will succumb though..Loved your tart!Bon weekend ma belle!
Noah is so handsome!
ReplyDeleteWish you a happy june.
Hugs
And a very happy one to you..soon..Provence right? July?:)
DeleteWe have a place here that did glassblowing too. I wanted to try, but no one ever came to the desk. Not sure if they still do. So glad Noah got to try it.
ReplyDeleteYour garden images are always so beautiful. I love this time of year.
Yum, the salad and muffin both have my mouth watering!
I have to print out your saying - I have one summer per year. Let it be alive! I want that on my wall. I just told my friend, "I have waited my whole life for summer!"
:)I always thought your life was full of summer!!!It looks like that to me☺️Thank you!!
DeleteWhat a fun day...the restaurant looks so good. I'd love to try the food in your region. I could easily eat my way through Canada!
ReplyDeleteYour garden is doing wonderful. Such pretty flowers! Things are coming alive quickly following all the rain. I piddle around and ask for a lot of favors!!!
What a nice salad, and the muffins look scrumptious! I'm back to cooking small meals for myself here at the lake. I was living on leftovers from last weekend's holiday, now I'm actually making meats, salads, fresh veggies, and homemade iced tea. I may go back to Chicago this weekend, I can easily pack my groceries up with ice for the two hour drive.
Sending a big hug to you, Monique!
Jane x
Thanks Jane!!Sounds like you are doing soooooo well!I thought of you the last couple of days..My piriformis has pinched my sciatic nerve I think..the last 3 days oyoyoy..I am so glad you found a solution:)Believe me I have other things..only mentioning this because it has happened before and usually time and stretches help. But OMGee a back is so important. So happy for you!!!!

DeleteBeautiful gardens! What a fun outing!
ReplyDeleteIt was..he loved it :)A little glum today..gardens not at their best:) You know me;)
DeleteI wish I had planted garlic. I forgot last year. But oh -- the big thing -- your magnificent day out! That looks like loads of fun and I just love it that you all did it with Noah and that he got really into it! And the carrot resto looks really good. Our Greg used to do chalkboards like that for restaurants. It makes it fun to order. As always, I loved every photo, every word.
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks for coming by to see me. I'm just home from a short vacay and thanks for commenting on my Cities post. The comments were much more interesting than the post!
I think I was the only Canadian☺️Hope you had a great time!!I can remind you next fall for the garlic🙂
DeleteIt all sounds fun! I have watched glass blowing but never participated. Your blooms are beautiful and I love your tea cozy.
