~Mid~May~Many Blooms Month~

The next 2 trees were Mother's Day gifts:) Both are my favorites..the Serviceberry..white..when Caroline was expecting Lucas..so 13 yrs ago..

And the pink..a Flowering Almond..a couple of yrs later.May is their month to shine♥

Mid May..Mother's Day Monday..the Flowering Almond starting to bloom beautifully and my Serviceberry..so..May14th..
The crabapples will follow soon~
Then the lilacs..

After seeing Rose Cottage/La Maison Des Jardins..engulfed in snow for so long..I felt she needed a  rejuvenating serum:)

Donna had posted about her  charming bunting..

I had white plastic bunting but  I knew it would not last all summer long..

So I took some fat quarters..(each fat quarter makes 3 pennants..)..and sewed away..I used a wider double quilting cotton tape for the top..the pennants are stitched together..right sides together..then turned inside out..cotton wide tape sewn at top..

The earth is opening up to lots of growth..
I planted petunias in the flower boxes around the side..(you can't see them)..the front got hanging geraniums..(can't see..) and  begonias instead of geraniums in pots..
Soon the perennials will fill in this area..to the brim..some roses..clematis..seeds..it's all good;)

See what I miss come March? All this.If winter ender Feb..I would be thrilled.

I made another great little cake..this one is from The View From Great Island...
Strawberry Buttermilk Cake♥
Soon it will be strawberry season in QC..in the interim..we get the Costco ones that look like they have been on steroids;)

PS..never hesitate to give a tree as a gift..preferably..smaller..a standard or low growing..year after year..they bring such sweet memories to you.

Have a great weekend~

  1. Did you say strawberry buttermilk cake? It must be so much better than strawberry shortcake. At least for my tastes. It is a beauty. It looks so pretty around you home. Your bunting looks so professional and I love it. Mine keeps flapping over in the wind, but soon, it should stay hanging as it should. I love it so and look at it all of the time. Here's to the sweetest season.

  7. I love your cottage 'lift' :) The bunting is so sweet and knowing that you made it, even sweeter ♥ Your flowering trees are so beautiful and what a wonderful idea to gift a tree. The only flowering tree we have left in our yard is our magnolia. We used to have crab apples but hated the mess on the ground with all of the apples. I'm sure there are better varieties but I think we're done with any major planting :) That cake sounds fantastic!! I am starting to get things planted here too. It feels great! Here's to the best time of year ♥

  9. Once again a beautiful post. You have a beautiful home and I have always loved your shed. Your flowering trees are so breathtakingly beautiful Monique! You have made a wonderful capture of their beauty. Your bunting is adorable. Well done you! That cake looks fabulously tasty! Everthing you do is so beautiful dear friend. You are the Queen of beautiful presentations and I admire you so much, because all of your beauty is not on the outside, but also inside. You are a treasure! Bless and happy Weekend! 1. It's a complete reversal from the end of winter and it's grey cold days to all this color that it makes one be so hopeful about just about everything.I think I found this winter the longest in my 64 yrs..something about it felt colder and..bleak and raw:( All this vibrant green and seeing things grow instead of die..just makes you feel good.I always have known that I love the 4 seasons..but I wonder if people in California always feel lucky? Lucky to not have March and even April now....
Thank you for your very very kind kind words..as always.

  12. Love your sweet little cottage dressed up with bunting. After your hard winter and cold beginning to spring, I know you must be relishing all the beauty that is now putting on a show. I remember this was the time of year our orchard would be in full bloom. Seeing three hundred trees in shades of white and pink was amazing.

  15. Everything looks so beautiful! And your house is just charming Monique. Hmmm how much sun does your serviceberry and almond tree get? Does the almond tree have a scent? Our crabapple trees were a white puff and then the torrential rains and winds blew them away. Lilacs are going over too. We have had so much rain and so much company that I am so behind. The cake looks wonderful but the thing I love the most is your painting of the pansy. Another beauty I will have to show Katherine. She will love it. Bon weekend!

    1. Something weird is happening to me.I started thinking I am looking after this home on borrowed time..there are far few years left to go than have been..and it put a yearning in me to get things done..
The winter was awful..the lack of color..the cccold..it just made my gears wind and go.

      I am done..planting..

Now it will be maintenance and replenishing the garlic beds once I pull them out.

I have to tell you every muscle feels what I do now.And lasts..:(
Oy my dear..I know you work as hard in yours..bon courage..
There's not enough Voltaren lol..or heating pads..;)

So the Serviceberry gets sun all day long..it's at the front..but closer to the road and the East sun at the back is soon over the house..so that tree and that whole garden to the right of it..bakes.
All day long. The fences and clems..bake.

The Flowering almond gets maybe 3 hrs of sun..It is a perfect large round shape..filled w/ pink blossoms..I will take a pic for you tomorrow so you get the idea..your front yard would love both these trees..the Serviceberry is not a Standard..it will grow like a small tree and mine bends like a misfit towards the southern sun..the other is a perfect..topiary..large type standard tree♥The blooms last for never.Fletting beauties.
The Serviceberry gives berries but our birds get to them before me..and I am on it!
I made jam once..and that year they found me.And now nary a berry is found.

      You would enjoy this book..
It is a flower book..in color..w/ blank already sketched pages of the flowers they have shown..for you to paint in..RHS Royal Horticultural Society..Watercolor Pad..Flowers book..
      Book Depository.
      Kudos to Katherine:):)
Have a great weekend..I have calendulas seeded..mini Nicotina seedlings planted..w/ sow more when I see what is coming up;)
      Thank you!

  16. Thanks for the info. Sounds like the serviceverry might do good where the evergreens were on my property. I know the feeling, I’m sore tonight. I have self sown something’s from last year. Might be some bachelors buttons or some cosmos. Trying to figure it out.

  22. Dearest Monique,
Love your arched windows in these photos and from inside and outside it looks romantic!
Ah, your blossom trees, that is the benefit of the north enjoying a beautiful and more extended spring period.
We live through a wet monsoon here, still no relief in one week... looking worse than those 3 years we lived and worked in Indonesia in the tropics. You had rains in the afternoon but also lots of sunshine before.
Since I'm not mobile I don't really care but look forward for using the balcony to read my Victoria Magazines and a good book...
    Hugs,
