This and that~

May...this weekend is Mother's Day in Canada..

I have been postponing sharing this book for those of you..who..like me..don't have mothers..
I bought this book more than 20 yrs ago and wish I had bought it sooner..Letters From Motherless Daughters.
Keeper..

As well as my mom's collection♥

It's a book ..letters..title self-descriptive..of women who have lost their moms recently to long ago and the impact n their lives.

My girls will celebrate covid safe..
Noah had to get tested re close encounter on school bus..
Negative..but he needs a second negative and quarantined AT HOME 14 days..the new variants have made things even stricter.
I am so grateful our grandsons have loving devoted moms..♥

I have been baking..lol as you can see..a new bread recipe that is so versatile from T on IG..turns out she lives in QC too..
It's The New York Times EXCELLENT bread recipe..I make it in the bread machine..makes 2 loaves!
And made a faux(2) babkas with it.
GREAT recipe.

A new ricotta banana bread..

And we caved and bought my daughter's air fryer..well..not hers..her make.
So happy with it..
So far..all fries..  onion rings..General Tao..Bang Bang Shrimp..Coconut Shrimp..
Regrets? none whatsoever.
Cosori. The large white one..5.8 qt I think..fits perfectly snuggled in the corner of my kitchen..Opposite corner of bread garage.
Jacques..LOVES it too..
We're not fryers..ever..we bake things..this kicks up the crunch by FAR.

Cold spell..garden in suspension..

but things nevertheless happening..
flowering almond and serviceberry popping..:)

My basement seedlings want to come out and play..too cold..but they have done well and are doing well..
Those gorgeous purple callas were a surprise gift♥♥♥♥

Take care..

Still painting..

  6. Motherless Daughters is really a gem. I'm glad you mentioned it -- I will have to dig out my copy.

Oh, all your baking looks so delicious and so beautifully displayed. I think I may need to bake today -- it just feels right. I hope Noah's second test is good. That has to be scary but fingers are crossed he is all right. and what GORGEOUS calla lilies. Oh, such loveliness!

  7. I tried my daughter-in-law's air fryer when she got hers before covid & it wasn't any faster than what I normally use....but I'm rethinking it & may try it again.

We received our 2nd covid shot on Thursday. I was so sick on Friday, so was my 28 yr old son. We both were totally knocked out. My husband (he's 59) had no side affects at all beyond a sore arm. I wok this morning feeling as fif I'd been sick for weeks even though it was just one day. As the day has moved I'm feeling stronger & better. Just taking it easy.

    1. Oh glad you are feeling better!
I have used the fryer at least 5 more times🙂Croutons..roasted peppers ..piri piri chicken for a salad..it’s second nature to me now..
My bread machine..my kitchen aid ..this and maybe 3 other smaller appliances are my favorites..so glad because sometimes we buy things and they are useless to us.
I only had a sore arm the same night..my second one is a while away...take care and Happy Mothers Day to you

  10. It's always bittersweet when Mother's Day rolls around. Happy for our daughters but sad for the mothers we have lost. I'm afraid I would get too weepy if I read the book. I love your bakes and I'd love to try homemade onion rings in our air fryer. I've only used it a few times and really haven't gotten the whole hand of it. Could you share the recipe or tell me where online to look? We love onion rings :) General Tso looks amazing too! Your bakes also look wonderful. I think I found the recipe but not sure as it doesn't look sectioned like yours. My sourdough starter is still doing great but an excellent yeast recipe always must be tried! Poor Noah. I hope his second test comes back negative too. Both my girls have been fully vaccinated as we have so much vaccine here. More than enough since the demand has gone way down. Sad to think so many people are not taking advantage of it for whatever reason. With the variants I would be so afraid not to get it!

I rarely had any all these years..
Susan..the book is nostalgic and it's interesting reading about how lives were affected..I do like it♥

Now the Onion Rings..This so far is my favorite
      https://platedcravings.com/air-fryer-onion-rings/
      My tips..lol always my tips..

So..I put all the onion rings together..in the flour..egg/buttremilk /flour micture..all ..one at a time will take forever..then w/ a fork..I dip in the panko and set on a baking tray w/ wax paper..then bake..no need to freeze.
I preheat mine has to preheat 5 minutes..
and place in basket ap 9 minutes..no flipingnothing..keep warm..next batch..you will be amazed how many rings are in one onion..you will have to check time etc..eveery fryer is different. We are dreaming of eating them tonight too:)I did not have to spray my basket. These are crispy tasty and delicious..it sounds long but it's not:)
We are all once vaccinated..need a second..kids start soon.
      Sorry about the delay..♥

  12. So sorry to read about Noah. I was off line for most of last week until late Monday this week. I could hop online via my phone, but as you know you need to be careful about using up all your data, so there was no blog reading for me until the internet was finally hooked up and stuck! All is well now. SO I missed out on the news about Noah. I hope and pray his second test is also negative. These new variants are making things so difficult for everyone. Nobody is immune it seems although so many still think they are and that it is a hoax. This I don't understand. Just keep being careful and doing as we are told. I have loved all of your photographs. I will look for the book. It sounds good. Your mother's books are so precious. My mother was not a reader. She was a writer however and I have a huge box of her letters to me. I treasure them. I love forget-me-nots. Yours are beautiful. Everything looks delicious. The breads, fries, avocado on toast, General Tso, everything. Your blooms. I love visiting your blog. You are always such an inspiration to me. Stay safe and stay well. xoxo

  15. Such lovely photography - true eye candy!
That sounds like an interesting book, thanks for sharing. My mom passed away 14 years ago and I still miss her - will probably do so for the remainder of my life. - I would love an air fryer, but our kitchen is on the smaller side. So we'll continue baking.

    1. I am sorry for your loss..

      Never easy..

I debated and debated on the air fryer..our ovens are convection people maintained it was the same..but this compact thing circulates in such a small space it works far better.
I hear you re space also:)
