Seeds..tomato talk.. and pinks:)

I've started my seed saving..dill is so easy and prolific..and you can sow throughout summer to always have.

I have to tell you something about tomatoes..I'm not the only one here in QC crying over tomatoes..but at last they are starting..first time ever growing larger Italian ones..

I had this one covered in organza to keep the squirrels and groundhogs and chipmunks away as this one was heavy and lying lowish..It weighed in at 1.3 lbs!I called it her wedding dress.

So as you know my tomatoes plants burned at the time of transplant and I've been fighting everything to keep them alive..but check the two next photos..that's my garlic bed..self sown tomato plants I put in there..  and self sown Nasturtiums were there..My rosemary in the corner..No one is eating these tomato plants ..planted so late..and I may get tomatoes..Two plants are filling the whole bed....Time will tell..

Just saying..perhaps I 'll plant a bit of garlic in my tomato plant bed..

And let some roam free.

The bees are everywhere pollinating everything even tomato blooms now..zinnias..  all kinds of flowers. And go figure ..the hummingbirds don't go to my feeder they go to my zinnias..

I love the loose bunches of zinnias I bring in..boundless supply it seems..

I have to say I am swayed by pretty ..when I saw this Rosé Wine vinegar in a limited edition bottle  offered at Costco..I added it to J's list.

Not extravagant.

I can't wait for new shows on TV Like Yellowstone..

Enjoying the GBBO..the contestants always forge a way into my feelings..

Not liking Inventing Anna.Harsh words but I can even doze off..She's too good an actress to have that awful accent..and did she really bamboozle all those people..unbelievable.

Loved Grantchester, maybe I mentioned that already..

The Bear on Disney channel..I told my daughter about it who has that channel..she's enjoying it..It's with Lipp from Shameless..

Thursday is September first..I know it is not just me..but..

time is just flying by.

Football is here..

I never thought in my life that I would be looking forward to home football games..lol to football games in general:)

4 different teams this year.

I bought a roll up blanket on sale at Indigo.

I get chilly at nothing.

And only have eyes for my 4 alphabet boys.

Take care..

  1. Monique, your tomatoes are beautiful. The cherry ones in that gorgeous bowl, and the larger ones are amazing! Mother Nature has smiled upon us, albeit pretty doggone late in the season (but we hold no grudges...). We are finally getting tomatoes, too. Nothing compares with that bold color of zinnias. Love them. I planted a small section in front of an old fence, and we've also been noticing the hummingbirds, bees and butterflies are all over them. I will definitely plant more zinnias next year. I save the seeds. You probably do, too. I guess if we're going to get anything done in August, today is our last chance. We live in an agricultural area, and our son-in-law is a farmer. When September rolls around, we know things are going to get busy, but hubby and I both grew up on farms, and we actually enjoy the excitement it brings. I like being in the kitchen, cooking and baking when the weather cools down, too. I know exactly what you mean about looking forward to watching our lovies play sports. Our son played football, and I was his biggest fan. I nearly embarrass myself over cheering on our littles, now. But that's our job. We build them up with love. May you continue to enjoy the bounty of your gardens!

  2. Your tomates are gorge as always
How dare the hummingbirds move on!? Such nerve
As for the Anna program — what a waste of everyone’s time, especially us for watching that useless person do nothing.

  3. Monique, your tomatoes looks pretty healthy to me. You know I'm not a tomato fan, but I can admire these plump beauties on the vine. Enjoy the football season ahead. I have made a note to plant zinnias in my new garden space next spring. I would love to walk out my door and gather a bouquet of these colorful blooms. Yes, time is flying. Here's to a new season on its way.

  5. Your volunteer tomato plants with flowers! Hopefully, you will see some tomatoes that will have time to ripen. The flowers on some of my plants got burned when we had our hottest weather. Not sure if I'll see a second crop on some of them :( Your zinnias are beautiful! They do make such a happy bouquet. My variety has short stems so I have to cut off leaves to get them into a vase but they are doing so well! I've had bad luck with zinnias before. Did you start all of yours from seed? I need to see if my dill has seeds too! I am also using the method you shared for marigold seeds :) We really enjoyed American the Beautiful on Disney Channel. We only subscribe when we have a grandson overnight but then we enjoy it too for that month. Looking forward to other series starting again. One thing to look forward to when summer ends...like football - LOL. ♥

  6. The tomatoes look wonderful. I am yearning for some home grown tomatoes. My friend recently asked why don't I grow some.I told her the squirrels eat everything in my garden, even with a shock wire. I have tried everything. Our hummers never leave. I buy big bags of sugar. Recently a squirrel ate half of a lovely chair cushion. it made me sick! I then covered my chairs outside the dining room. I read squirrels do not like mint. Enjoy the football games.

  7. Oh these tomatoes are luscious! Mine did so very poorly this year....drought was the main culprit & temps above 100' for weeks. Then when the rain came I had covid. I've kept the little cherry & pear tomatoes going hoping for fruit before frost but they all look so bad. I'll try planting garlic & onions on the perimeter of my tomato beds...what a great idea! My basil is the main thing going for me this year.

My zinnias always come through for me. They are so beautiful & yes...the hummingbirds always choose them over my feeder.

I don't comment often but I never miss a post here or on Instagram.

    1. Thank you! Im so happy I finally discovered zinnias..that have come forth and prospered for me..watch lol next yr they won't:( We just never know..sure as anything I've got to find a fix for tomatoes..buying beautiful in season tomatoes are quite the fortune..And I love going out and picking them..hate those yellow disfiguring leaves..and a lot of dry out on some..also next yr..tomato fertilizer..I bought some but too late. One thing I put some kind of marine algae ..wait..fish emulsion and again the groundhog unearthed them all .It has such a fishy scent..I have come to the conclusion they are digging the plants up thinkingg salmon is in there..never ever again..

  8. Love, love your garden pics. We had a long cold spring so everything was late. Now the heat is killing us. It’s September tomorrow and in the mid 30s. The hydrangeas are crisped. I tried a new plant this year recommended by Monty Don (BBC) it’s a perennial verbena grows to 5 ft and produces a cloud of small purple flowers high above the other plants. My Japanese anemones are irritating as they sprawl everywhere and can’t stand up straight. The verbena stands upright even in wind. I’m going to try zinnias next year for their colour. I lost my 200 gladioli to thrips this year all died before opening. I’m not sure if the soil is infected now. I still love my garden though. Love and happy gardening from the west coast.

    2. Oh I bet that Verbena is beautiful! Funnily enough my usual cast of J Anemones were no shows!I think they all moved across the street. My Russian sage is a huge annoyance not compact at all topples everywhere..Yesterday I cleared half a bed..and divided irises and replanted less deep..Ill tackle the other half maybe the aft..Its back breaking I need a pitch fork to scale back the grass as it's quackgrass there:(Looks green and pretty but the roots go right into the garden.I have to monitor it so I scale it back..Have a great weekend!

  9. I can't believe today is September 1. I'm not ready. Sorry about the late tomatoes. The organza is a brilliant idea! And I wish I'd seen that vinegar at Costco on Monday! I'd buy it just for the bottle! Your garden photos are so beautiful and full of detail. The speak to the season. Rick's nasturtiums barely bloomed this year but I cut enough basil yesterday to make a big pile of pesto today. To die for! Happy week!

  13. Your tomatoes are just gorgeous. I am glad that you were able to salvage some at least! Your gardens are gorgeous full stop. Maybe there is a reason that garlic and tomatoes taste so lovely together? Perhaps they are meant to be grown together? I don't know. I am not a gardener! The seeds look so delicate. Your zinnias, nasturtiums and your pinks so sweet. I could not have resisted that bottle of vinegar either! so pretty! You are lucky that J is so good at picking things up for you! And football season. You have much to cheer about. I can see you enjoying all their games cheering them on! I got bored of that show Anna with the first episode. I didn't like at all. If it doesn't grab me with the first, it doesn't grab me! I am with you. BORING Hope you are having a great weekend and happy September! xoxo
