One of my daughter's wanted to give her husband a very special 50th bday gift..
Meet Koko an Australian Labradoodle who will weigh ap.50 lbs:)
A bigger dog for a big guy..
She's quite magnetic:) Charming!And my first Grandgirl lol..
We all loved her right away..A dog's life;)
She is in a very loving family.
In other good news ..Sorrel IS a perennial in zone 5:)When I bought the two plants last yr..I was told it could be a perennial:)
Yay.
Sage is up..Thyme..some parsley ..and did I mention garlic:)
Easter was a rain check... Here days without power including Easter day..Our daughters and us.
Christmas..now Easter..what's next.
We still have snow.. However the last few milder days have been a blessing..We were able to pick up ice storm branches.. and rake ..gosh Tamaraks cause havoc!
My garlic is in an area where the snow melts first and it's looking grand.
I still have enough from last yr to get me to this year's harvest.
I sowed some Shirley Grey poppies..I bought them from a reputable purveyor..so fingers crossed.
I bought a new basil plant and took cuttings ..they are in individual little yogurt pots filled with water to root..and then I will plant outside..
I even put a few cuttings in Monsieur Provence:)
I rarely put paintings I have done in our home.. a few tiny ones here and there..
But this oil of Lucas has been there since I painted it..he is 17 now..and tall and not like this at all:)..But I love it with all it's failings.I remember that day as if yesterday..
Then last week before the ice storm ..
I added this one..
From a class I took.
I have a blonde and a brunette..:)
And I found this painting turned out ok.
Watercolor.
Makes me happy to see it.
I don't think I will ever stop making Cloudy Kitchen's focaccia.
Just made more today..:)
A treat.
I hope we can live in our home for many years to come.
There is such comfort in living in our creature comforts..
No power makes you appreciate it all.
You can distract yourself with painting..reading..
My Kindle came out!:)
It was a great thing.I read three books..another thing electricity..the lack of..does for you.
Time spent reading and creating.

I'm glad to read that you have electricity once again - we do appreciate it when we lose it for awhile. A delayed Easter get together will be something to look forward to.

ReplyDeleteI love the painting of Lucas and the two girls. Girls holding hands always touches my heart. Last week, my daughter put her two little ones in their double stroller to take them for a walk and they fell asleep holding hands. Why does that bring a tear to my eye? The world can be a harsh place. I pray they will be close and support each other, always.
It's wonderful to see those little green familiar leaves poking through the soil! Glad to hear you're seeing the green after such a long winter. I've been working on an old brick patio (that I keep going back and forth over--should we keep it or have a new one put in...). Yesterday I planted marigolds along one side of it. The soil there is sandy, so fingers crossed.
Power outages drive me crazy, but you're right about the fact that there is so much more time for reading, hobbies, and relaxing when we don't have all our modern conveniences taking up our time and attention. It's a toss up.
I hope you can enjoy your beautiful home for the rest of your life. You've worked hard to make it your own and I'm sure there are memories everywhere you look. Our homes are like gifts to us!
Hi Monique. I love "doodles"! My daughter has a golden doodle and Royce is a wonderful dog! Looks like you have been busy regardless of weather and no electricity. We had a round of severe storms with many tornado warnings. Now that my living arrangements are different & I have no basement I was a bit anxious. The weather this week is summer like with temps in the 70's low 80's. Global warming is always in the back of my mind. I did go out and purchase a lovely small table & 2 chairs for my balcony. Planning my plant selections and ways to display. It's not my garden but I am going to enjoy it. I hope you will continue to enjoy your home and lovely gardens for many years to come.

The look is so elegant.I was looking at my garlic rows this morning through the window and thought I would sow marigolds along the front:) I collected seeds ..many last yr..I have to wait for the soil to warm up..They drive me crazy also these power outages.. so cold! Jacques is so patent so Davy Crockettish during these.Im a live wire inside..cold does that to me;). The not knowing when is it coming back..:)Have a great weekend:)And yes that Koko has won our hearts:)

And I love both your paintings and I'm glad you have framed them. They look wonderful -- and special, given your family connection. The garden -- I know how much that means to you and it's exciting to see the new growth. My thyme is going well and I'm seeing new oregano leafing. I think your idea about rooting a basil plant is brilliant and I wonder why I never thought of it -- faster and better than seeds, less expensive than starter plants! ReplyDeleteOh yes this basil rooting tip is the bomb! Just fill empty glass jars.. snip above a fork and put in water wait until you see the root system!! Huge.Its fun saying she lol Caroline send me antics of HER and we say SHE lol..Its been he he he for 17 yrs..The best years ever mind you but saying she is fun too:)No heat..We lived in the sunroom..w/ a space heater..Our generator is circa 1998..it can only do so much refrigerator and freezer was top priority:)Have a great weekend :)

I had to Google :) L & B's new (2 yrs old) dog is a girl also, a Grandgirl for me too. Koa is her name. Pretty close! Isn't it thrilling to see new life popping out of the soil?! I love your first painting of Lucas!! You will love your belated Easter gathering even more after your 5 days of no power. The weather will probably be much nicer too, hopefully! Our beautiful summer-like days are coming to an abrupt end on Sunday. We might get snow on Monday :(((.
ReplyDeleteWe are having 80 degree weather too!I am elated.I love winter but come April I need the gardens.I bought garden clogs at Costco this AM I loved mine but they split after years and yrs,,these are cuter lol..but no back..I wear socks anyways..So close Koko and Koa!!almost all snow melted last 4 days..except by rooftops..Oh no. nonono no snow:( Ft Lauderdale is flooding..this weather! DeleteI bet your son-in-law loved his 50th birthday gift. Koko is such a cutie. A grandgirl :-) We just ran out of garlic from last year's harvest (we use a LOT) Having garlic is a must and we have increased our plantings and varieties. I've been working in our garden all week, and enjoying all the new blooms and summer weather. Next week we go back to spring weather.
ReplyDeleteSame here..and I'm telling you we do garlic daily..But with well over 100 last summer and no loss..it's keeping on keeping on..I only plant big garlic..after a few yrs of smaller ones..the effort was not worth it.I contacted two people who were selling gargantuan..no news lol..Ill try again this yr.Just in these past few summer days..everything has changed.To renewal:)
