2024..has arrived...

Frida arrived for the New Year..Every Year I like to stitch an ornament to slip into all the ornaments  before putting everything away...for a fun reunion the next Christmas..This year I bought the Frida pattern on Etsy.Oh wow..this one exercised my mental faculties..  She is 3d..Took me forever to be honest:)But unbelievably we have NO snow..We walked yesterday on the golf course..and honestly you could golf. Not a breath of snow..I cannot remember a New Year with no snow.

Anyway she kept me busy. When I read her famous quotes I am heartbroken for her.Died at 47 in 1954.

2024..I'll be 70..married 50 yrs..that too is unimaginable...:)

New Years I made a dish we both enjoy..Our NYE is always quiet w/ a beef and cheese fondue..Our plans were thwarted this yr..so Jacques made a shrimp pasta.I love that.

NY day I made Ricardo's Coquilles ST-Jacques..I add some shrimps..I only have a before pic, itwas dark when we ate.He eats two I eat one..

I love this dish..

I add smoked paprika..

Horrible dusk pre-baked pic..Oh well I wanted to share:)The recipe comes together so quickly and baked and broiled.. beauties:)

These shells are over 50 yrs old lol

Everything around me is getting so old..Like half century old..

I haven't been painting a lot just cards for next yr can't show ..

But if I am stitching I cant be painting at the same time..

Not baking still so much left..

Just meals.

Tell you one thing I am so glad I stitched these and more up yrs ago..Not sure I would have the patience.I would bring the stocking to Fl with yarns etc,,and spend the day stitching..people would come see what I was doing..for yrs :)A dear ladt would take my finished canvas I would bring velvet and lining and braid and tassels and she would sew them up for me.I am certain she is in her 90s and we still exchange cards. An angel.

Always enjoyed stitching.I have a number of these large canvases framed.I gave many away.Glad I held on to some:)

Years ago..His and Hers..where His is I have no clue..

My favorite Christmas ornaments to make were the Alicia Paulsen sets of three..Make three each daughter..package up prettily with the name of the set..I think I stitched at least 6 sets of three..times 2 plus plus plus. She seems to not have them available anymore.Darling other kits though..you can find them here..

You cannot go wrong.

I wasn't able to share this on IG as a full post..just a glimpse..

But I can share it here..

One of my gentle giants..Max..

16..his last season in high school..this is his final reel  of his last year..Many of you knew him as a baby.

He is in love with this game..

If you have 5 minutes lol..I love this little movie.

Max

I keep playing it.

Snow expected Tuesday..It would freshen things up:)

Take care..

  1. Happy New Year to you and all of yours! A long exciting/happy/memorable day after our GRAND got up from her nap, so I'm just peeking in at bedtime to say I'm looking forward to another glorious year with this fabulous place you've created in this too-plain Universe. Thank you for my gracious seat at Nana's Table. moire non, rachel

  3. Happy New Year Monique! You are so talented. Your needle work is lovely. I used to do many of the same things. Needle point, counted cross stitch, crewel. Making ornaments. All of this while my children were young. Now that I have lots of time I do none of those things. It was fun watching Max play football. I know nothing about the game but it looks like he is a good player and his full name is very cool and French. Thanks for sharing so much of yourself.

  4. Oh Monique, your stitching is exquisite -- both dear Frida and your stockings from days gone by. Those are magnificent. I used to needlepoint quite a bit but haven't in ages. Yet, when I see this, it makes me want to pick up a needle. (I suppose the needle felting is as close as I come!) What a lovely and elegant New Year's dinner and New Year's Eve as well. I do love shrimp -- I thikn it is my favorite! And Max! Doesn't it seem like yesterday and now..... I hope your New Year is spectacular!

  6. Happy New Year to you and your clan, Monique! I smiled when I saw Frida and couldn't help but think that many of us instantly recognize the unibrow, but she was a true survivor and gifted artist.

Such wonderful handwork! Those stockings amaze. The embroidered pillowcase reminded me of some my sweet grandmother made for me 50 years ago. I had never used them. They were packed with blue tissue paper to protect them. After hubby's stroke, I pulled them out, washed them and decided to use them. They bring me joy whenever I look at them and remember those beloved, arthritic hands that patiently crafted. Life is short. Now is the time to enjoy beauty.

Well I would watch Max over and over, too. You can see his passion for the game. Our son played football, also, and I believe young people gain much from the discipline and shared responsibility of being a team. You and your family have every right to be proud of him!

Maybe we'll all get some snow soon. It is in our forecast, but looks quite light. Maybe you'll fare better. Have a good week!

    1. Again your words are just so sweet re your pillowcases and taking them out now:) Yes if not now when? Football never appealed to me.An only girl..brothers..that's all they watched..but the youngest left home when I was 10..so it didn't last forever. We cringe when they get hurt:(He definitely loves the sport.Works out so much...Did you watch Greater? I won't say anything else:)You too have a very good week with lots of healing happening.

    2. I just finished watching Greater. Oh my, what an incredible story! We don't see many movies that embrace faith, hard work, and deep love of family and friends. Wasn't Brandon's influence on his team inspiring? I think that his mother's awesome faith fueled him through his life. I really enjoyed the movie. So glad you mentioned it, Monique. Thank you!

    3. We loved the movie..watched it twice once a long long time ago..and then we chose it..and I remembered..but it took J a bit longer and then he remembered ..but we both liked it so much we watched again. That Brandon.I just loved everything about him.It was great that he turned bullies into better people..And yes his mom..:) Unfailing love for her son.

  7. Frida is such a little gem!! You did a wonderful job making her, and I can imagine how much patience she must have taken. Your NY menu sounds wonderful! I made spring rolls for a NYE gathering at friends. Lots of work but everyone loved them. Never thought to take a photo :( Loved revisiting your stitchery. You are so good at it! I used to love needlepoint and have several unfinished projects that wouldn't work in this home any more, both style-wise and color-wise. Our 50th this year too! Hard to believe! That video of Max is fantastic! I'd watch it over and over too :) He seems to shrug off the opposing players like flies - LOL. He's so big and strong! ♥ I can't wait to see what his future brings.

    1. I am sure your Spring rolls were fantastic.I think everything you make must be delish:)Frida..let's just say she exercised my brain and patience. The weather has been awful re snowsheing etc..So she was like a respite lol.I get it ..things that would not work anymore.Like you and I have always said.I hope their future brings happiness:):):):And health. He is athletic and can play many positions..so that's a plus..I miss hearing the sound of their basketball on the lane..So many sweet memories.:) xo

  8. Happy New Year to you and J. I enjoy seeing what you create with your hands!

We’re enjoying the beauty of Sunday’s snow but the next storm arrives this afternoon and will bring rain and we’ll be back to green grass.

Loved watching Max, and his strength to stay upright. Like you, Joe and I are now football fans as our Xavier loves playing, and is a Buffalo Bills
    fan.
