Just Peachy~

The lilies are blooming their little heads off..
Someone wrote in one of our local papers that the Daylily ..well the common Ditchlily actually..should be our little town's official flower..the roads are lined with them at this time of year..not to mention our driveway...and some of our dishes..:)
I have lost the driveway battle so now I hope they just keep multiplying..
I prefer REAL daylilies:)As in the first photo..
To me they are like Irises..each so different and delightful.
My favorite still..Maggie..and she's again back in town.♥
The yellows and peaches are also appearing in corners of the gardens..
and I seem to be gravitating towards peachy colors in food..
The grilled shrimp are a staple here..thanks to Bobby Flay..
and the brined pork with a gorgeous blueberry peach salsa..well that's from the queen of colorful healthy dishes..Sam..@ My Carolina Kitchen.
I can make that salsa in my sleep I think after only having made it once..
It's pretty to put together and I could eat it by the spoonful.
C'est si bon!
That darling little 3 year old is my daughters friend Amy's youngest one..
I could not stop snapping their photos..
In the last photo..a seagull landed in the pool:)

I bought a book at Winner's (TJ)..it said watercolor..I felt the paper..not watercolor at all..in fact I found it a bit glacé..But the cover was sopretty and it reminded me of our trip there..so I bought it..
You know what?
I find it is fun to try watercolors on different paper..

It's large compared to what I am used to..so lots of flaws if not all flawed..but it's funny..I feel like it is Layla and that day♥

  2. I love lilies, especially the peachy/orange lilies. Reminds me of my grandmother and her garden. And her name was Lily.

  4. I saw that beautiful salsa on Sam's blog and have been intending to try it. Your shrimp skewers make such a lovely presentation. There isn't a prettier shade of day lilies in the garden.

  7. I am having a battle for rights to the day lilies with the deer and her three fawns that have decided they like to dine in my garden most evenings! Buying Liquid Fence is on my list for today. Ditch lilies in abundance are an awesome sight. Too bad all lilies don't multiply like they do.

So good to hear another wonderful review of Sam's recipe. It is perfect for summer and I wonder what the lovely spirals are on your plate. Onions, carrots? The shrimp look peachy too :)

What an adorable head of curls on that little girl. You painting them very well!

      Not hers..mine ..too dark..

The spirals are home fries..baked..Spiralized:) LOL.
I am using that dandy little tool:)
The deer must be gorgeous though?
I know I know..Asiatic lilies are finished here.. those awful red beetles were the death of them.
The black stuff they left everywhere I do not mss at all!:(

  9. I'm so pleased that you liked the peach lime salsa with the pork chop. It is super easy and I could eat the salsa all by itself. Your photos are absolutely sunning Monique. You really have a flair with the styling and the photography. This is the second time today I've seen the Spiralizer used. I wondered what the vegetable was too, but I see above in Susan's comment that they are potatoes. Very fancy and fun too.Bobby Flay's shrimp could easily become one of my favorites and the molded rice in the center is fabulous.

Our town could be called Ditch Lillyville we have so many and this year they are more prolific than I've ever seen them. I'm with you, the real lilies are much prettier, but the ditch lilies do a good job of withstanding the highway traffic, litter and car fumes.
    Sam.

  10. Your Lilys are gorgeous! My Mom had loads in her garden...here they are a feast for the deer. They eat the buds just before they open...makes me sad. My neighbors have a fenced in yard filled with Stargazers at the moment. The scent is intoxicating!
Your food all looks amazing...making me very hungry! The little curls at the neck? Delicious!

You would love the Sheep Run Daylily Farm that I went to yesterday. Yours are gorgeous!
Appreciate the review of Sam's recipe.
I'm going to make the blueberry oatmeal cookies from the previous post as soon as I pick blueberries next week.

Sorry about having to delete my comment. There was a typo. I need white out! LOL

  12. Dear Monique, Oh, yes, you caught that sweet girl, looking out to sea, animated & alive! I agree about using different papers. Sometimes watercolors do cool things on cheap thin paper even. I LOVE that cover & would have bought it too Lilies: they are everywhere here in Maine & I just photo'ed some in a friends garden. I miss my old lilies at my old house. As usual, you captured their colorful bright nature. I love the summer food you show, In my next life I will learn to cook like you! C'est si bon! (name of a candy shop in Quebec City) Love, Rita

  13. I am going to make the salsa tonight and serve with a Mexican chicken recipe I adapted from City Limits Diner. It is a grilled boneless chicken breast topped with slices of jalapeño Monterey Jack cheese which is melted and served with salsa, guacamole (may use your recipe that you posted a few days back. They can be served on toasted roll and accompanied by sour cream. I skip the bread. That pork chop sounds good too. Going to try that too. Jerry can't eat shrimp due to a food allergy but I may just have to make some for myself one night and let him eat his steak. Too funny that you were trying to fight the ditchlily. I have seen some beautiful swaths at someone's roadside garden paired with plain old green hosta. I have wanted to pull some out and replicate them. I have Maggie (thanks to either you or Kim sending me some) but it is in a spot that is overtaken by fillapendula. Need to dig her out and get her into a better spot. Last, that watercolor looks perfect to me.

She spread her around making sure her beauty would be seen by many:)
I have to move things around too..
A neighbour lined the front of her home..well actually the husband did it with exactly what you said..hostas and ditch lilies..the new owners..took them all out and grassed to the road:(
      To each his own right?:)
      Your chicken sounds good Terry..
      :)
      Have a wonderful day~

  14. Oh, what a lovely post to wake up to! Daylily season is my favorite, in part because I can pick bouquets every day and put them everywhere! I'll have to take a picture of my favorite blush-color day lily, though I do love them all. Love, love that watercolor! ( and the magic of a seagull landing in the pool!) and that salsa, as bright and pretty as summer itself. Happy Tuesday, Nana!

  21. It has been a long time since I heard "ditch lily".

Love your painting, she is precious.

I guess we are going to miss peach season. They have done a massive stone fruit recall. It seems it has listeria. ugh! Maybe I can find a farmers market.

  22. MOnique, I love LOVE your peachy post! I was looking at some tiger lily bulbs the other day and thinking we should plant some. They are quite prolific once they get going I think!
