...February.. a leap year this year..

What is essential is invisible to the eye..

Artwork by Susan..

In my mother's china cabinet.

I never wanted to be away in February. We celebrate two birthdays and it's important to me to be together ..en famille.

I am lucky enough to have sweet friends who send the most thoughtful card and tokens..

One thing I wanted to share ..well two..

Was this beautiful painting Susan painted for me from a photo I took in St Paul De Vence..one of my fave places on earth..Look at that:) She is amazing.

She also started collecting wee teapots..

And sent me one..another love of mine..Van Gogh.In St-Rémy we stayed very close to the asylum where Van Gogh spent many many years..This teapot is extremely dear to me.

St-Rémy is all about Vincent.

A few memories from our day spent at The Mausoleum.
I adore Provence.

There's Valentine's day too..but we stay home and have eaten  the same meal for the past 50 yrs I think.. 2 fondues..cheese and beef..paper thin slices.. in a bouillon and then dipped in sauces. Most yrs I make the sauces..

But this year online at Euro Market I found 4 mini jars..of 4 classic fondues sauces..They were perfect enough for twice..

Euro Market is great..lots of true France products..available to us..Many of our stores carry authentic products..but this place carries so much more..like my fave vanilla sugar:)

I ordered online.. We are having quite a time with our bridge that joins my little end of the world(not so little) to Montreal.

A new bridge is underway but so late in the game.My daughter has to travel over it every day.:( Delays on end..lanes closed..

I swear governments are not governing.

So That cake ..above..look up look way up Jerome (The Friendly Giant)..was for Caroline's 47 th birthday which we celebrated Saturday en famille..Classic Carrot cake w/ cream cheese icing..

These cupcakes..KAF very vanilla cupcakes..

We can be a large group..:)

Out of the blue I turned 70..which was also Saturday. My eldest daughter does the honors of Caroline and my birthdays..It was lovely..So fun.I actually can have fun.:)They make me laugh like no one else.

Don't ever think cards are passé..I think they are sweet.

And Sweet is this cute thing too..

My eldest daughter put together 7 gifts for 7 decades(OY). all packed in a planter ..this is one..a set of 4 perched sponges for your sink. What can I say I appreciate cute.

My youngest daughter..the soon to be 47 yr old one..put together a package of Korean skin care.I cannot tell you how good they feel on the skin.So good .

You know..gifts are great..but I received notes of love and I got tears:)

So that's a long post and I can't really apologize because it's my sort of journal here:)

  3. Happy Birthday Monique!! I'm celebrating my 70th soon, too. Aren't we blessed to be alive? It sounds like you had a wonderful time with family, and in my book, that's what it's all about.

Those pictures from France make me want to pack my bags. Maybe it's the light and the sense of history that draws me.

That little bluebird sponge is absolutely adorable. Believe it or not, we have a Mr. and Mrs. Bluebird building a nest near our mailbox. I keep thinking it's way too early, since we still have cold and snow, but hopefully they know what they're doing, lol.

God bless you, Monique, on this your 70th year of life. May you know deep peace, joy and hope...and lots of laughter.

I love your wishes..Thank you.I know I won't know your birth day..so happy upcoming birthday. It happened so fast didn't t.My husband reads the comments and lol. at your Aren't we lucky to be alive:) Yes we are..to see our families..to share in their lives..ALL of it.That's the thing about Provence..THAT LIGHT.Oh I how love it.It's not Florida sunshine at all..It's an artist's sunshine..why so many have gone and went. The south of France is exquisite with equally exquisite people..except the pottery sellr that sold the same pottery as everyone and yelled at me for taking a photo.I was mortfified. So unlike Provence.:)

  4. A very belated birthday to you! And how festive and fun it was. Family time (I love it that one daughter handled both your birthdays so the birthday celebrants could just enjoy! I love the idea of seven gifts -- one for each decade. I'll have to remember that for Rick -- he has another year to go for that so it will give me plenty of time to plan! That cake is absolutely a showstopper! And I loved seeing the photos of St. Remy -- I suspect that's a place I'll never see in person so it's lovely to experience it vicariously through your eyes. Cupcakes. Fondue. You're talking my love language! Happy "New Year" to you. May your 70s be spectacular!

  5. A favorite song of my Mother’s was “Sunrise, Sunset” swiftly flow the years. Indeed! We celebrate two birthdays this month also. My son 49 and daughter 44. How did that happen? It looks like you were surrounded by love celebrating this auspicious birthday. I wish you another healthy & happy year. Thanks for sharing the photos of your beloved Provence. I am very fond of Van Gogh’s work (love that statue of him with arms full of sun flowers). You were indeed fortunate to have walked in his steps in St. Remy. 🎂🌻

  7. What a wonderful birthday celebration it must have been! I know you did the desserts and that carrot cake is absolutely amazing. I love how you decorated it with such beautiful decor! And, the black and white cupcakes, so elegant! It must have been so moving to see where Van Gogh stayed at the asylum. His bed, the red can with his paint brushes. ♥ I tried not to think about how old I am - LOL. I'm so happy you are pleased with my tokens. I feel like I was part of your celebration. xoxo

  9. Happiest of Birthday, chère Monique, and to Caroline, too! How lovely to celebrate with your daughter. I do the same, my eldest daughter and I have birthdays separated by one day. The carrot cake and cupcakes are beautiful and I'm sure - equally delicious.
I've not been to St. Remy, but visited Auvers sur Oise where Van Gogh died. There are similar markers in the streets there. Visiting his grave where his brother is buried alongside was a touching moment. There is a persistent family history that my mother's family is somehow related to Vincent's mother's family in the Netherlands. Who knows?

    1. I would go with that rumor:) I have read of Auvers Sur Oise and watched movies..as it is pivotal in Van Goghs life..Lucky you!I love the song Vincent by Don Mclean:) Thank you for your good wishes..one day! She almost made it!

  10. Happy 70th Birthday 🥳
I felt compelled to check. Although van Gogh completed some of his masterpieces in Arles and St Remy de Provence, he actually only lived there for about two and a half years including one year in the asylum.
    Cheers, Carol gillott 🥰
