I guess not..April 8th...Yesterday I was tidying gardens...April Fools was last week.. Come on Mother nature...
Iffy on and off weather here..
I do absolutely love this bread recipe at this blog..I used the recipe for the bunny bread.
I get a feeling now for it as to when it is ideal to score etc..much like a sourdough..But no sourdough taste.I feel that sourdough is too involved for me .I see people ace through ten loaves at once...I am impressed.A loaf last us a long time:) Just two of us and we eat everything in a lot of moderation.
But we like home made everything.
And I like to be a wanna be baker/ cook.
It depends on your lives..and how busy you are.
I was very busy for many yrs.
I have settled into the sounds of silence very well.:)
Watching things grow..bake..the dance of the paintbrushes..along the beautiful papers.I am lucky I know it.
Not in everything..:)
But I think some things sit better with me inside myself.
I love being inspired..
Jeanie posted this NYTimes shrimp and orzo one skillet dish..I had everything. It is easy it is very good.I added parm cheese..and baked longer..and hot pepper flakes.. Jeanie has her blog here..The Marmalade Gypsy.
Thank you Jeanie.
I made those peanut butter cookies again..
For some reason I thought I had posted before with the link..Ill work on finding it..
And I played w/ macaron shells..
Combining recipes and tips..
As long as I see fee I am happy.
Probably practiced Easter fare the macarons..
I hope you all have a good week..I was encouraged cleaning gardens( Fall and Spring here) yesterday and checking on my seedlings..so the snow pics were not in my horizon..We knew a dusting..not this.
Good news is this goes fast.
Oh, I wouldn't be happy about the snow at this time. While still living in Germany we sometimes had snow in April and everybody was already so fed up with it by then. Our weather here is much friendlier in the spring and actually knows when it is supposed to be spring. Already I've spent so much time in the garden - it's my absolute happy time.
ReplyDeleteYour bread looks delicious and I like the pattern that you made into the dough. When I bake "my" whole wheat bread I always "carve" a starfish pattern in it. Maybe I shoud try something more artsy, like your leaf (?) pattern. I bake bread as well since this is the item we miss the most from Germany, but the flour is different here and the bread never turns out the way we were used to it. It's still yummy, just different. But now there's a guy who sells German rye bread at the farmers market and that one is excellent.
I hope you weather will soon turn more springlike.
Today the sky is a provencal blue and the snow is a brilliant white.More fell overnight. It's beautiful yet I am over it.I gardened two days ago:( Now it is winter again.A starfish must be lovely and a trademark:) I've never been to Germany..but in Fl we had German friends and my first manager at work..to whom I surely owe my career as it was not a friendly spot for newcomers and she made it so:)I will never forget her encouragement and kindness.Rosemarie:)
DeleteDarn Snow
ReplyDeleteBut yes, this time of year it’s a short visit.
Your home must smell delightful with all that you cook and bake.
LOL I hope so..Im not a sweet eater but I'll gladly take bread:) I am so over this :(
DeleteI'm so sorry to hear about your snow -- and that's a lot! They predict flurries and a small amount here but it may not even stick. I am tired of the cold, though, and of my winter clothes! But I love the photo of your flag amongst all the white. And of course, all your food is so beautifully styled and presented and I know it tastes delicious! I'm glad you liked the shrimp/orzo -- I'm going to try your additions (I put my parm on at the table but I like what you did here!). The bread and cookies look wonderful and well done on your "feet!" Here's hoping that the snow disappears quickly and you have a terrific week!
ReplyDeleteWe had more overnight.A real pity as we were down to grass and clean up.There was a Spring in my step;)My mind is heavier.Thank goodness for the sun and blue skies this AM..The sun shines in our home..and warms it up.Im sick of not wearing blouses..layers upon layers:( Sick of snow..cold..and clothes..Gosh I sound happy;) I can't fake this last snowfall feeling..Hope I shake it off today:)
DeleteWow, that’s a lot of snow. I hope it all melts soon and you can enjoy spring as it should be. As always your baking is lovely and I know delicious.
ReplyDeleteWe had more overnight..But at least we have provencal blue skies and sunshine..Sti..For some reason come April..I am OVER it lol.Anxious to fill things with flowers:)
DeleteProvencal blue!!! What a cheerful, happy prospect, no matter what it shines down on---blue skies are such a symbol of cheer and good tidings---even a song still sung about them after all these years. I looked it up and it's from 1926---it could have been a little tune dancing around in Irving Berlin's head, or tinkling out from those talented fingers, already this time a hundred years ago. That makes me smile just thinking.
ReplyDeleteI discovered probably thirty years ago that the Indiana approaching-twilight skies are a perfect Sapphire blue---we came out of the airport to a lovely Welcome Home of that unimaginably perfect evening sky once, and I warranted it to the proximity of the bright golden lights illuminating those acres of parking lot. But I kept watch all the way home, craning my neck up past the front shades to see the same darker-than-cobalt then and most evenings hereafter. It's supremely effective in my back yard, and that's a boon well discovered. But Sapphire evenings, with just looking up for a while,---that pales in the thought of those Provencal days of sun and white-house-dotted hillsides and the far tones behind those slender reaching Cypress punctuating farms and estates and long winding lanes.
And YOU'VE BEEN THERE! Our mornings have recently been graced with multiple photos of a niece's trip through Italy, France and all over England---lovely gifts to an armchair traveler. I mentioned your baking to a friend in Scotland, telling him of the Leaf Art on your loaf, the magnificent macarons, even down to the authentic fork-tine-brand on the peanut butter cookies. Once a friend put that mark on plain sugar cookies, knowing that her children would love the snack after school, and one son took one bite and reached for the Jif to spread on---"to make them real."
I've been hesitating to speak of your very kind offer of the picture, and have found a work-around to the Walk-Away, if the offer still holds. I feel that I've made light of the gift in the delay, but my new neighbor, whose four-year old is almost identically tiny as was my Katie when the conversation occurred, has enthusiastically agreed to our posing together. She's even looking her out a little blue dress. (thinking little pink hearts for this space). I love you for your willingness to share your most unusual, fabulous talent, and will be sending a photo after this weekend. moire non,
My offer OF course still stands:) What a lovely idea:).Ill be waiting. From the back :) Remember:)..Your descriptions of everything ..so very lovely. My friend Nancy is part of a Writer's Circle at Mc Gill university and loves it..she is 84 and also writes like a dream. Her almost daily emails to me.. soothe me.She's a wonderful woman.I bet it is so exciting to get those emails and photos from your niece.I love when people I know go away and keep me updated with photos:) A treat.
DeleteMonique, I cannot believe you have snow...AGAIN. On the other hand, I can understand. A little while ago, I went to pick up my older grand daughter from preschool and as I sat in the car, there were frozen ice crystals raining down. Thank goodness, it didn't last long. I am longing for warm, sunny weather. I know we must be patient. It will come...soon...I hope. Your painting, cooking, and baking always inspire, and this week, when I read, "Watching things grow, bake, the dance of the paintbrushes...along the beautiful papers. I am lucky I know it. Not in everything. But I think some things sit better with me inside myself." That is poetry. Thank you for sharing with us!
ReplyDeleteOh I'm not taking this latest one well lol..No elation! We had more overnight but tis brilliant sunshine is melting a lot of it.I think it was from seeing the gardens bare and grass to a few inches..well it threw me off..I think sooner than later my elation will return..You know I don't hate winter..I just don't love it in April..Older grand daughter from pre-school..You have no idea Pam how J and I miss those days.. We drive past two of their Little schools regularly and believe me..the flashes of memories that are in my soul.. we are lucky. All these stored memories..knock on wood..you and I of doing these things.
DeleteHaving the chance to help care for the littles is truly the best gift we could ever receive. Yes, we have many stored memories, thank God!
DeleteYes:) It's like a fountain of youth you know when they are littles:)
DeleteWe had snow too, and you know I like winter but I don't want any more snow until December lol. I checked the extended forecast and Monday looks sunny and 60. I'll be outside all day :-) :-)
ReplyDeleteI don't blame you:) Thank goodness it's melting like the Wicked Witch :)
DeleteWinter's last hurrah! I think we are all over it by now, and anxious to get on with Spring things. You have been baking up a storm! Everything looks so tasty. The bread, the cookies, that shrimp dish. I can't even eat shrimp, and it looks delicious to me. Your macaron shells look like perfection. All that you share is always so lovely. You will soon be playing in the dirt. Won't be long now! xoxo
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to dirt:). Just warmer temps and no winter clothes too:) TY!
