1000~ Merci Mille Fois~

I did something fun last night..with my daughters..but I'll post about it next time because I had prepared this note..and it wouldn't be the same if I waited:)

Merci Mille Fois..Means thanks a thousand times..but in English..we say Thanks a Million:)

Hmm..we've had tea..we've had coffee...we have gardened..and painted..we've baked..and read..and written and e~mailed..shared recipes and stories..photos,photo tips.. and events..seeds ,gardens and dishes..and cookie cutters and snail mail..birthdays ,Thanksgiving, Christmas,Easter,Valentines,Hanukkah,Fathers Day,Mother's Day..New Years..weddings,births,trips close by and trips far away..places and spaces and art tutorials..the weather ,the joys, health issues,sorrows,,inspiration,motivation..companionship...children,Littles..antiques..and collectables..crafts..book reviews and suggestions..Downton Abby and Call The Midwife..movies and tv series..and chefs..the list goes on and on....

I have loved blogging..as I saw number 1000 approach..(number of posts I have posted)..I could not believe I had.
Hard to fathom actually sitting down in front of my computer to type out 1000 posts.

Before blogging..I thought even one post would be hard..but we had Lucas:) so I knew I could write about our first angel on earth.. he was my second post ever in 2008.

My first post.. was the ocean.

I think I was AT the ocean when my friend suggested I blog.

The power of persuasion:)

And then I realized I loved this thing called Blogging.

It is clearly evident that I am not a tecchie..or my blog look would change..I don't even know where to begin..I know what I love..but I can't get my head around starting over..LOL.

I am such a creature of habit..

that..

I have the same bedspread since we moved here..my duvet cover for winter is even older.
I don't change things a lot.Except boots and coats and scarves it seems..my daughter has rubbed off on me;)

I get into something..settle in..and stay..the same..

I have learned so much from all the blogs I follow and all the comments I have been happy to read.

You have no idea how some days..that little comment..or post..or tutorial..or recipe..or e-mail..
was all I needed to get going:)

THANK YOU.

And some of you are from day one.I cannot believe we are 8 +yrs older;)

I read a book I enjoyed..My name Is Lucy Barton..there are a few sentences I loved....the author is Elizabeth Strout ..I  had just read another of her books..The Burgess Boys..and I had read  Olive Kitteridge..Frances McDormand is just great in the movie version.
Back to the book..

This is the excerpt from the book..I wanted to share here..

There is a line Tennessee Williams wrote for Blanche Dubois..:"I have always depended on the kindness of strangers".
Many of us have been saved many times by the kindness of strangers, but after a while..it sounds trite, like a bumper sticker.
And that's what made Lucy sad, that a beautiful and true line comes to be used so often that it takes on the sound of a bumper sticker.

I sure hope my saying thank you..does not sound trite..because I mean it.
I am grateful that we visit and share..always.

  5. Oh Monique,so gracious as always. You know how much I think of you; think you are special and perfect. I try to think where I found your blog, but can't remember. But, so glad I did. I won't want you to change a thing about your blog as it is perfect just the way it is. I started blogging in 2008 also, but only about 600 or so posts. Let's hope for many more times together.

  8. You have a beautiful blog. I admit I had a bit of a giggle at your expense when you said you weren't a techie. I hear so many people say that, but there are some things that are easier than you think.

You write beautifully, I am loving your look back and how you talked about what got you started. Thank you for sharing that with us.

  9. Congratulations on such a huge milestone, Monique! I'm going at 493 and I still think I spent to much time at the computer - LOL. And we go even farther back than 2008 :) I think it was Garden Web first and then GBs. I remember when EJ began GBs after the moderator at GW got sassy with someone :) He wanted a kinder place and, in the beginning, we knew everyone and it was small and fun. All the things we learned about gardening, photography and Photoshop from GBs was amazing and we continue to grow and learn by the cyber friends we've made while doing this. And why are bloggers so nice? Rarely do I see a negative comment! I think that's what I like best about you and the blogging 'friends' I've made. Everyone is so kind and sincere and your post proves it :)

I know I spend too much time at my computer..it's a fact.
When we had no power I wondered what everyone was up to;)
So lucky never any nasty comments..we are lucky!!:)

    2. Oh, so do I! It's a modern fact of life and there are many more things that bring us to our computers other than blogging that have made our lives so much more productive too, like shopping online, internet banking, document filing, research, email, the list goes on. It's not a bad thing :) I even read books on my iPad. We are lucky - so many good things about blogging :)

    3. Yes..all true..and then I have moments when I think..so much in person..interpersonal..is now gone..more and more solitary..halfhalf..not sure yet.

  17. Blogging has changed over the years.....I used to get 50 and 60 comments. But then I used to spend more time commenting on others, too. I do love reading your posts, Monique, and even if I stop blogging myself, I'd still come and read. I've been doing this since 2008 too. My computer guru back then was the one who suggested it. I don't have anywhere near as many posts as you do! I'm so impressed. 1000. Wow! Keep it up!

  18. Congratulations Monique on the blogging milestone. And thank YOU for your blog. First you inspired me on gardenbuddies with your beautiful gardens and now your blog has made me a better Grammy. Keep staying the same, we all are enjoying your sameness immensely. Speaking of littles, I visited Lillian yesterday and came up with a new nickname for her Lili Bud. Sometimes Lilibeatle (but the bud is better than the bug). I guess that second nickname is a homage to Kim from gb. P.S. I see another Linzer Cookie cut out, you really do have a collection!

    2. You are too kind M! During this stress filled move - the one thing that brought me to tears was the thought of being away from my grandson. Seven hour drive - 1 1/2 hours by plane. We have kept our house in the Texas Hill Country, so I go back and forth. In fact I leave on Monday to go back for a couple of weeks to celebrate his fourth birthday.
Reading your post made me realize how much we have moved in the last 12 years.
Santa Fe, Montecito, San Antonio, Houston, South Carolina, Georgia and now one foot in Texas and one in New Mexico. I look forward to the day when we can stay in one place.

  31. As I walked past my screen with First Cup, I reached out and clicked on the machine---that portal to the rich and strange and beautiful, and there you were, with your quiet, lovely pictures and enticing words. Number 1000 on the sidebar caught my eye, and here I wandered---that touch of a button a ticket more rare than golden, and this one post, of your own millenial moment in your blogging career.
A Thousand Mornings, de mille journees of this bright, colorful, splendid life you share---can you imagine the desolation of your correspondents, as you bid adieu amongst such loss as all this wonderland you've been lavishing on us all? I've been totally out of the blog-loop myself, with loss of all my e-mail and my own blog, but that tricky entrance is going to yield one of these days, I just know it. Until . . . Do know how much you would be missed, and how delighted we are to have you continue, we Nana-junkies and vicarious cookie-makers and photo-sharers and garden-loungers who just soak up all your rays.
There I go---just scattering words askew, and perhaps I can account---Chris just shared that he dropped a Hershey's kiss into the bottom of my cup before he poured! r
