A quickie.

The first photo ..is a treat..I have 2 wood boxes that have compartments inside and a mirror..on the lid inside..one I have had for at least 25 yrs..it has a vintage botanical print on it..and this one..that features La Mode Illustrée  (1860-1937) .. It was the magazine most people looked to.The artists works are superb..
I have no idea if this is an original..but it's old and I love it.

You can see a vintage brooch and clip on earrings as well as a box..I love these delicate porcelain costume jewelry pieces..being a gardener ..lover of flowers and the colors..it is not really surprising.
I wear stud pearls every day of my life so don't ask me why I am a sucker for costume jewelry earrings and such.

THis set..  when I picked them up..the lady handed me this box..
in which she had the set in..

I have not seen a Morgan's box in years..Morgans is now La Baie..
I was  so grateful..as my  maternal grandfather was a window dresser for Morgans..in the days of Selfridge's etc..like Grégory Fitoussi:)

In my mind I picture him that way yet the only photo I remember seeing of him..was a country photo..he had suspenders and was with his first wife..my mom's mom.
Never new any of my grandparents..sweet how something can pop up.
That box♥

Now for the dish..I follow Diane Morissey  on Instagram.
If that girl doesn't get a book soon I'll be shocked.
So many people are inspired by her stories on IG..
and I have made more than one thing that is delicious.
Go find her if you want delicious simple meals..desserts.
She is a pescatarian but has a large family..6 children.. and they also eat meat..
Lots of good chicken dishes..shrimp dishes..

building flavor upon flavor..
That dish above ..you can wing it..but I love that you roast the broccoli first..lots of lemon and zest..garlic..and look at the lemon..this is how I like to serve them now:)
I added shrimp because Jacques needs something other than veggies and noodles:)
It should have been Fusilli Lunghi..I didn't have any.

And yes you see a touch of bacon;)I have French shallots in there..parm cheese..yes even w/ shrimp.

Anyway..
her meals are beautifully presented and fab.
Honest.

I still have snow!In some areas FEET where the snow slides off the roof.
Started the tomatoes..
Found a mailbox for the Sheshed:)
And it is still so cold here.

Cascade Green is a new fave color of mine..Daniel Smith watercolors.
So I am not trying to get you on Instagram..you will spend too much time there..but you will be inspired:)Nudge nudge nudge..:)
I know I am..
You can make a collage at the end of the month to see what you have been up to:)

Have a good week..

This happened here..

Falalalala...not.

  1. That is a meal we would really enjoy! Shrimp pasta is one of our favorite meals. I don't follow her but will :) What a sweet story about your grandfather and Morgans. Never had heard of the store before but I can almost imagine from the series Selfridge's ;) How wonderful to have a box from that store and the floral jewelry is adorable! Miss Parallelogram, I wear pearl drop earrings on a simple silver hook and a tiny pearl, garnet and silver chain choker..just about every, single day♥ Your March was a lovely month and filled with beautiful watercolors! I will have to try some Cascade Green, mostly use Sap and Viridian and blend with other colors. I know our Blick store carries Daniel Smith. It's supposed to be on par with the high end Windsor Newton colors. Love those apricots!

Would be great to have a dream and see my grandfather in action..I guess that is where my mom got her love of art.
She studied at l'Ecole Des Beaux Arts in Montréal.

      So much time gone by..

She's great to follow! You will like her.No Nonsense and not selling things:)
Selling's fine..but when it becomes the purpose of the feed..my interest wanes..
      Have a great Sunday!:)Lucky you and DB's:)

  7. Dear Nana, I really enjoyed this very old magazine. I happen to have several magazines from the thirties I brought home from my in-laws. They are true gems.
The box is also absolutely wonderful. I really like antiques.
The watercolor color is magnificent. Really beautiful.
Around here, although the spring arrived, rain also came. It has been raining a lot in recent days.
Apart from that, life runs smoothly, smoothly.
    Have a happy week.

  8. Dearest Monique,
What a lovely find and yes, it is a treasure, being original or not!
That dish looks very attractive the way you made it.
The past couple of days we've seen snow and ice too, in the mountains and I sure can relate to your circumstances.
    Hugs,

  11. I love your collage of the month more than I can say! And your beautiful apricots -- I'll have to check out that DS shade of green. I think greens are terribly hard to mix right and I seem to do a LOT of things with green! The story of the box is wonderful -- loved them all the the broccoli looks tasty too. This is my happy place.

  14. That pasta looks soooo good. I am a sucker for colorful costume jewelry (never worn) as well. Will have to gift it to my nieces when the time is right. We are back to cold and damp, but the flowers give us hope that it will be short lived!

  16. Sorry for the late comment Monique! For some reason my iPad won't let me comment on blogs! Most annoying! Love the costume jewelry. I love things like that myself, although I would not probably wear them, except for the brooch. My mom had some lovely costume jewelry. I would have loved a piece of it, but . . . oh well. The box and memory of your grandpapa, how sweet and special. My grandpapa died in 1963, the same day as Kennedy. I did not know my French grandparents well, there was a language barrier unfortunately. I love Dianne's posts. Everything looks so delicious always. You have done this one great justice! Looks yummy! I have always loved your paintings. You have more talent in your baby finger than most people have in their whole hands! The snow . . . not funny now is it? Spring will come. I am sure your fingers are itching to get into the garden! Thanks for all you share with us. I love my visits here with you. xoxo

    1. Hi Marie..Now I am hoping you will have some of your mothers belongings.I know they are just material things...but there is a feeling in wearing or holding something that was our mothers..at least for me..maybe not everyone.
I hope the put some things aside for you.
I know that when I am gone..things I have held onto..that were my mom's or great aunts..will slip away.
We don't have things of Jacques parents except an old tool or two.
His sisters have everything Jacques did not want anything.
He has never longed for any of it.
Meanwhile I have found it a privilege to look after the things I do have of theirs.
I know you would too.I am crossing my fingers for you.
