Weather is iffy one day..perfect the next~

So the gardens and grass are still looking healthy alhough they need a system restore after each rain fall..and the winds!! Oh my gosh the winds..Some irises just keeled over..I should have staked many ..even non beardede,, I seem to have fewer blooms this yr.. some things are thriving like no other year..others not.

My least fave job..weed whacking my gardens..I like the borders neat and tidy and weedwhacking is the way to go.I hate the noise..and wear goggles now..so often something can pop up:(
Poppies are done..the big showy ones..
Peonies too after this last rainfall.

Ill need to divide so many hostas yet again.
Another job I hate.
Right now roses are the stars..and daisies..small medium and large..all different types.
I made a delicious marble cake..if you have a fave recipe consider covering w/ a Ferrero Rocher type icing♥
And don't consider making Julia's Boeuf Bourguignon on an overcast sweltering day with tornado warnings.
And hire a dishwasher:)
Still painting..Montreal People..Riviera People..Provence people.
On IG I add a story:)
I like that part;)
Well it's another rainy day ..so I'll get to painting another little person:)
Just made hamburger buns..and they seem yum..  practicing for M's bday in August.

Have a good week!

  1. Good morning dear Monique! What a welcome sight to see your post pop up while I'm enjoying my first cup of coffee. Your garden is so inviting--beautiful flowers and I love your striped fabric chairs. Although I love planting and growing things, it's proving to be a challenging process, already (and we've only begun!). Our weather is so changeable, and now we are very dry. We all know that the weather patterns can change in an instant, though, so we take heart and keep on tending to all living things in our care. I laughed when I read your warning about not making the beef on a hot day, and the need to hire a dishwasher. Honestly, I have made some recipes and actually considered throwing away the pot/baking dish. No kidding! I don't think I've ever gone through with it, though, because I hate waste. I sure hope it tasted good. I also smiled when I saw your painting of the man carrying the floral bag. Love your people! Gonna finish my coffee and get ready for a special little guest. We're taking care of our 5 month old granddaughter today;)

  2. Lovely garden, tended with a loving hand. I adore daisies. I wanted to carry them in my bridal bouquet but the florist talked me out of it. I have an old photo of my mother & her sister in black and white taken in the 1920s in Europe. They are in black dresses hold huge arm loads of daisies. Some are scattered on the floor. It has been very hot here, in the high 90s so I have been eating lots of salads. Hope it will be good for my waist line! Just finished watching UNDER THE VINES on Acorn. Very enjoyable. Stay cool.

  5. Daisies are so fun. Your gardens look lovely. I weed whack too. I just finished two different areas down by the pool. No grass or flowers. Just dirt and weeds surrounding the volleyball court and also along the driveway. Your cake looks yummy. It’s hot here today, so I shall be in the pool. Love your sweet People.

  6. Rick makes burger buns and they are so much better than the store! I love all the beauty here. Poppies don't last long, do they? But oh, the show they give you when they do! Your gardens are wonderful Monique and that icing looks to die for! I need to divide hostas and bring some up here to the lake. Both places would benefit!

  7. I am so impressed that you do your own weed whacking! I'm glad John enjoys doing it...sometimes a little too aggressively - LOL. Your pinte of feverfew is so charming! I wish they liked it here :( It was a crazy spring with hot weather, then cold, and lots of rain. Monday and Tuesday, 90s and 100! Too hot! My iris and peonies are done for too. Not much color in the front garden right now. My gardens need serious hand weeding. Grasses and interlopers growing in amongst the good things. Hosta dividing - here too. So impressed with your Bourguignon, and all your People and their stories. A burger sounds great to me right now! ♥♥♥

    1. I am so sad re the FF. but last yr 2 clems didn't show up and now they are.Hope never dies in the heart of a gardener.I fear your weather and long distance travel may have had a lot to do with their demise..Certainly not your TLC..It hurts his hands to weed whack...my hands are fine..some tendinitis..but very little w/ the years much better.I remember the moment it happened ..Max was a big baby..I sat him in his swing here:) Ouch felt it..
Some things..just get much more manageable..Thank goodness for these small miracles:)

  12. Beautiful pictures from your garden, and the majority of my roses are amazing this year. Can you believe the two David Austin rose bushes are the only two that are not performing, and they were the most expensive. As soon as I saw your weed whacker blade, you reminded me of Joe. He likes the borders neat and tidy and ours looks like he used a ruler. LOL

  14. Monique, It is such a delight to see what is going on in your garden AND kitchen! So wonderful. Here we are approaching the July 4th weekend (I feel like we should have to take a 'time out' due to our recent behavior) and The Hamptons are full to overflowing. I am dreading taking the car out on in traffic to buy groceries! We will have a quiet weekend here. I am looking forward to dinner on the back porch and a little painting time. I found an old plein air painting of Montauk from 2017 that I never finished that I will work on. We will be in a show at the Montauk depot gallery in a few weeks, so it will be perfect (if I don't wreck it!) for that show... Hope you have a lovely weekend. xoxo see you on the IG.

  15. I hope that this comment goes through. I have not had much luck lately! I think Google changed some things recently and its been hard. I always love all of your photographs and that cake is calling my name! I have never heard of a Ferrero Roche icing. I will have to look that one up! We have had a pretty dry summer so far here, but when we do get rain it just pelts down. Your yard and garden as always is stunning. I hate doing dishes. I am so grateful for my dishwasher. Crossing my fingers now and pressing publish! xoxo
