Every little inch of it~And I am not alone:)
My parents lived .. in that era.. Were born in that era...my grandparents.. lived that era..
My dad ..the driver..in 1915..
and years later..still the driver..:)
I would take my place in the kitchen under Mrs Patmore I think..I would love to be neighbors with Anna and Mr Bates..(cannot believe that scene Sunday..yet there was a warning at the beginning and I don't temember there ever being one)
So many characters are so special..Mrs Hughes..Isobel Crawley....(I love her..)
The grounds..the gardens..the tea cups..the hats..a different life for certain..
Quite a bit of snobbery but it's easy to get by it ..if not simply for the lovely distraction of another world..and very good acting..
I made cookies for tea w/ DA♥
Many of you have the Brigitte Cookie cutter. What better use of it than to personalize cookies?
I wanted to make some for Donella..with her name on them..
And I wanted to make more Paris Petit Ecolier cookies one gloomy Sunday..
The day before..Saturday..I had found this recipe:) at Baking A Moment~
I thought.. could it simply be the perfect chocolate sugar cookie recipe?
Well guess what ? So far in my travels..it is..for what I wanted to do w/ the chocolate cookies..That particular gloomy Sunday~
I found it here..and cannot wait to peruse her whole blog..and find many more simply perfect recipes.
PS..
(I was so happy to see Nanny leave when she was so mean in the nursery..)and so sad for you know who Sunday night~)
P.P.S.S. My taste in television programs are quite eclectic..
Shocking even..:)
La Recette~
Please note that yesterday there was an error in my recipe..it is 1/2 cup or 1 stick of butter~
Courtesy of Baking A Moment
Plse refer to her post ..as she gives tips and tricks..
I can tell you I did not flour my marble..the cookies cut out perfectly..I didn't chill..the letters stayed clear as day.
Looking forward to trying her other cookies.
1 stick or 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter cut up(I grated mine)
1 tbsp oil..(unflavored..canola..etc)
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp kosher salt
1 large egg
1/4 cornstarch
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 1/4- 1 3/4 cup all purpose flour
Cream butter, oil ,vanilla, sugar, salt in your KA w/ paddle attachment...just until the mixture is smooth..do not overbeat at this point.
Add the egg and mix until just incorporated
Add the cornstarch, cocoa powder and flour
I used in between 1 1/4 and 1 3/4 ..as I was rolling right away..(again read her explanations)
Preheat oven to 375
Roll out 1/4 inch thick..place on Silpat or parchment paper lined cookie sheet and bake 9-12 mins depending on thickness etc..
And that's it..Rien De Plus Simple..
The DA photos were borrowed from Google Images.
Please note that yesterday there was an error in my recipe..it is 1/2 cup or 1 stick of butter~
We LOVE that show. Haven't seen the latest yet, so glad you didn't spill the beans! Your cookies are so fun, I don't have that cookie personalizer but I can see you're having a great time with it!
ReplyDeleteI love that show is my favorite, not always I can see but I love it! Your cookies look delicious!!
ReplyDeleteI love that show, too. Just watched the second episode for the season while cleaning my kitchen this afternoon. It was disturbing. Your cookies are adorable. My daughter is planning a Sherlock tea party. I will keep the recipe to try.
ReplyDeleteAnna..great acting..:-)
ReplyDeleteOh..cookies with a special Sherlock imprint would be lovely:-)
Oh I so love Downton too...all the people are just wonderful...I can't really pick a favorite. Wow, I did not see the horrid episode with Anna coming....complete shocker for me...it certainly sparked the storyline quickly......also, I love Tom and I just hate that that newly hired lady's maid (can't remember her name) is going to be a huge troublemaker for him.....can't wait for next Sunday!!
ReplyDeleteOh me too..huge troublemaker:-)
DeleteAnother cookie recipe for me to try! Thank you! There is a Downton Abbey Tea featured in the current issue of Tea Time Magazine.
ReplyDeleteI will see if it is online that magazine..thank you..
DeleteYour cookies are adorable Monique. How fun it would be to sip tea and munch one of your cookies while watching.I like their dressing for dinner and the formality of everything. I love the show too and we record it to watch later in the week. I am also so glad Nanny West is history. Husband isn't so sure he liked it this year. Too much like a soap opera he says. Humm, I guess I might have to watch it without him :) and he can read a book.
ReplyDeleteSam
Funny..I asked Jacques last night..do you still like it?
DeleteHe said yes:-)
I do that's for sure..I cry more watching Call The Midwife though:-)
In visiting my sister here in upper Michigan (I'm still here for another two weeks), I ended up introducing she and her hubby to DA, starting with Season 1. We are now at the end of Season 3. On our second night of watching DA, we shopped at a local antique shop and bought 6 tea cups and saucers. We had delicious hot tea and goodies that night watching DA, it was so much fun. I love the pictures of your father in the car and I'll have to tell my sister about the cookies you made. All your favorites are mine as well and it kills me about Anna too. Have a lovely week!! -Bev
ReplyDeleteI forgot to give you a link to my facebook post about our little DA tea party. Hope it works, here it is: https://www.facebook.com/mzzbev/media_set?set=a.10101232879876198.1073741854.55704450&type=1
DeleteWill certainly try and see:-) Sounds like you are having such a nice time..would be grand to have a sister...
DeleteSo cute..the teacups are lovely..you did well..yes..it must be nice to have a sister:)
DeleteI used to ahve tea with my friend across the street..but she has moved..I do with my daughters and jacques.. but I see you did it right:)
awwww, I hope you get a new neighbor soon to have tea with. I'm glad my sister and I are close. Thank you for the kind word :)
DeleteI love Downton Abbey but not what happened to Anna. I'm not happy with that and what will surely ensue as a result!! DA and Doc Martin are my guilty pleasures for now. The cookies look delicious. I love your family photos!
ReplyDeleteBest,
Bonnie
We love Doc Martin too..and Bonnie..I told my friend in an email this morning what I think you think is going to happen...I just get that feeling.
DeleteThat Anna is so pure of heart..and kind..It was tragic..
I'm a fan too! What treasures the family photos are. I need to go through all my mom's albums sometime and pull out some special photos to keep. But not now. I need more time.
ReplyDeleteThe chocolate cookies look delicious. Perfect tea time treats. ;-)
I really love just about everything on PBS. I just wish they would make more shows of Downton. It is cruel to make us wait so long for our favorite shows. Grating butter? That is a first. Is it messy? I will have to try it on something. I wish I could still get goat butter, but haven't found a source since Meyenberg's in California stopped producing it. I need a cookie now. It always help me sleep before bedtime. I was thinking about Downton today, and though I would love living there, I couldn't handle all that formality on a daily basis.
ReplyDeleteOh ..no no ..we both could not handle all that formality every day..My place would be in the kitchen :)
DeleteTo have someone dress me?No..
I use my mom's old grater on a stand..I love doing it for scones etc..
You MUST have an antique grater somewhere Donna:)
I just started getting into this show last season. I think I've watched enough repeats to catch up. I have the same cookie cutter, but still haven't figured out quite how to use it! I will give it a try for next weekend's episode! Beautiful, M, just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLori
xoxo
Lori..we were late getting into it.. one season I think..and then my friend Nancy bought that season and lent it to us..We immediately were taken with it..and of course never miss it..
DeleteMy daughter.. just just got into it..has watched both seasons on Netflix with her husband and is out today looking to rent season 3:)
I am not surprised you like it so much also :)
With this recipe..your cookies will not spread..and the letters will show up.Do read her tips..you are in a warmer climate than I am..
Have fun with them:)
Lori..there was a typo..I fixed it..in the recipe..hope you check back before making:)x
DeleteLoved seeing the photos of your Dad in the vintage cars, I've read in English magazines how popular Downton Abbey is in America, but I did't realise you all went so far as to make special biscuits, I love the idea, but don't think Mr France would even notice if I made special biscuits to nibble, while we watched the episode. But he does still enjoy watching it with me, as I previously mentioned to you this series is the best ( in my opinion).
ReplyDeleteBarbara:) I was making the cookies for Donella..and while you are playing with the perfect cookies and all those tiny letters..you just do it:)
DeleteI love playing in the kitchen..Hard for me to sit still in the day..
Jacques just keeps saying..Toi tu en as de la patience..
Every day almost he says that..
DeleteI like it too. !!...lovely week darling....love from me...x !
ReplyDeleteYou too dear Ria.
DeleteThe most perfect of all Downton Abby viewing biscuits ever. I have been sitting on my tongue since we saw that episode last autumn. Horrendous. Poor Anna and Bates. But very well done. I love Downton Abby, as you know. I think there are a LOT of us out here! It is my dream to actually visit the house where it is filmed one day. I loved the old photos you showed us today. Aren't old pictures fun! Sending you much love today and always. xxoo
ReplyDeleteOh you should go Marie..I saw a special.. the owners let us in:)
DeleteI am envious of you being one season ahead of us..:)
I love that show and I record it so I can watch it over and over again. There is always so much going on that you miss some things. Love dressing for dinner and how formal things are. I feel that we are losing so much tradition - no one seems to dress up anymore, just rattie old jeans and to tight blouses. Maybe, I am getting to old LOL We always had a big dinner on Sunday and dressed for dinner. Things are sure changing.
ReplyDeleteLoved the old pictures. My goal is to make a album for my son of all the old pictures and who they are. Great post.
Mary
I know people that have done DA parties..
DeleteI am disappointed we did not tape the episodes..my dd wouldn't be out today looking for season 3..
The clothes are superb. The styling of the whole show..
So many people I know love this show. I don't have TV, have never seen it. I plan to borrow the DVD from the library. I remember the era of Upstairs Downstairs, it was fun to talk about it with others, you become part of a little community. I LOVE the Paris cookie!! Your photos of your father are magnificent! You know how to make the most of these winter days...
ReplyDeleteOur tiny little library has sesaon 1-3..I hope yours does also..It would have you sketching everything from teacups to garments to gardens..
DeleteI do think you would enjoy it so much Rita..
I was shocked on Sunday night and because most of my friends and colleagues we watching the Golden Globes, there was no one to discuss it with on Monday. Love the pictures of your Dad. Those are amazing and what a car! Oh and the biscuits too.
ReplyDeleteThere was no choice for me..:) DA prevailed..Tina and Amy are great ..the clothes can be great..
DeleteBut ..no comparison.:)
My dad...:)
I noticed that SImply Perfect's recipe calls for a 1/2 cup butter and yours for a cup. Did you mean to say a cup?
ReplyDeleteI love the pics of your Dad too. Wouldnt it be fun to travel into those photos if only for a moment.
Thank you so much..I was going to write 1 stick..Oh I will change that right right now TY:)So mjuch
DeleteSince I read English papers I knew it was coming but was still shocked... for some reason I thought it was coming later in the season. I knew the moment I saw their interaction that this was the guy who was going to hurt her.
ReplyDeleteNow those cookies... I really want one of those letter cookie presses... where do you get it??
Let me Google for you..many of us bought it..a few yrs ago..Mine came frome Germany..let me look:)

Fancy Flours seems to have it..

A Google search will find many I just found:)
Just make sure you use a cookie recipe that holds it's form..like this one..
Those cookies are divine! I'm going to make some for someone special...
ReplyDeleteWe have that show here too, I have never watched one...I must check this out!
Shel
Michelle.I can promise you..you will enjoy this show.. it has your name on it..:)
DeleteI love DA too, Monique. I eagerly await each episode and then watch them over and over. The costuming is exquisite and the characters so complex. We have quickly been drawn into season 4, haven't we? I'm worried about Anna. Your lovely little cookies would be perfect for tea at DA. I have never found a good chocolate shortbread recipe. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteIt's not really a shortbread. try them:) More a sugar cookie..but chocolate.. you will see all the little layers:)
DeleteI am not surprised you love this show also!
Love both of your cookies. I need to get a cutter that makes lettered cookies. So fun and different. Your Paris cookie is so amaZing. I love the vintage photos. Such a treasure to own! jONI
ReplyDeleteOMG! Love, love DA! But for some reason the 4th season doesn't have that particular feel any more, or it's just me-)) I would love to dedicate a post to this amazing show!
ReplyDeleteDear Monique, I am so happy that we have one more thing that we both love!
Hugs,
Yelena
It's not just you:)
DeleteI am not surprised we both like this show Yelena.:).
I haven't watched DA, it sounds like everyone loves it so much. I do watch Doc Martin and love that, but I don't know why I haven't watched DA. It looks like it's filmed beautifully and the costumes too, so I think I'll give it a try.
ReplyDeleteThose cookies look so beautiful, I love seeing how creative you are with cookies, it's amazing, looks like fun.
I think you would enjoy it so much.. your love of Victoria magazine..etc..It is a well suited show for you..I hope you can get to watch it from season 1..
DeleteI can't believe I missed the start of the new season! I had it recorded since the beginning but somehow the series got deleted on our DVR :( I will catch up somehow! I'm so glad Maggie Smith didn't decide to leave. I watched Gosford Park recently and there are so many similarities. I had seen it a few years ago - before Downton Abbey and now I know where the inspiration came from.
ReplyDeleteLove the driver photos! I remember the second one.
Your tributes are deliciously perfect!
Maggie Smith is my husband's favorite:)
DeleteHope you get to see the first two..apparently you can catch on the net?
I remember Gosford park too:) Should watch again.
Funny ..I knew you would remeber:)
Your blog about DA is a hit.... once more!
ReplyDeleteWell done Mon~
Preciosas, me encantan y seguro que están buenísimas.
ReplyDeleteBesos

I also like to watch Dowton Abbey – this is my 3rd year as I missed the first year. The rest of the year I watch very little TV, apart from John Steward’s Comedy Central (from a short read of your blog I am not sure if you are in France or the US.) I really enjoyed my first visit on your blog and know that I’ll come back to look at your luscious recipes.
ReplyDeleteI am in QC,Canada..Just went to Paris via your blog..Thank you!
DeleteI have loved, loved Downton Abbey from the very first show. It never ceases to entertain me. Your cookies look splendid and your family photos are the best!
ReplyDeleteIt would be so lovely to have my family! To ask them about these photos..I only received them after an aunt passed away..I asked her daughters if they had family fotos and one did and sent me many via the net..
DeleteGrateful!
Love your cookies! I've been enchanted with Downton since the first season, now - not so much. They killed off two of my favorite characters last season and I haven't recovered. The first and second season had the most enchanting clothing, and it felt as though it was much slower. Saw half of the first show this season and turned it off. It felt so different from the other seasons - darker (in color) and much busier. And of course, no horses:)
ReplyDeleteI know..when a change happens and people we love leave..there is an adaptation..
DeleteI am still hooked..
I miss M too..very very much..
And I preferred the previous clothing also..I guess they are following the times..:)
My husband is finding what you are finding..Although he still likes it and still watches..
I'll tell you if you would love it again:)
I can't wait to watch that show, everybody is talking about it.
ReplyDeleteThis show is in my watchlist... I can't wait to see it!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous cookies! So pretty and tempting. I wish I could have afternoon tea with you....
Cheers,
Rosa
I would like that:)
DeleteDownton Abbey is just the best thing on television! I so look forward to it each Sunday. Your Tea and Cookies set the scene beautifully!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing the photos of your family. I just love the sepia toned images. Uomo Elegante!
It's amazing how a show can pull so many around the world in front of their TV..:)Thank you Ry~
DeleteI love that show too, Monique. Not that my parents and grandparents lived in such splendor, they certainly didn't. But it's fun to watch how the "other half" lived in those days in GB.
ReplyDeleteSimply drooling over your cookies...you always make such delicious treats!
Hard to imagine some still live in this opulence:)
ReplyDeleteMy parents had a very humble life..my dad's parents ..a different one..:)
I love Downton too! :) xxxxx
ReplyDeleteHenry.. will be a Matthew:)
DeleteNo, I don't have that and have wondered how you do all of your adorable words on your cookies! I will now - just ordered it and just got the snowflake press too! Thanks for all of the fun ideas.
ReplyDeleteYes, I love Downton and was afraid if I would like it without Matthew, but I did! The Anna scene was horrible!!! Why sweet, sweet Anna?
I have found some recent Ebay finds you might like..:)
DeleteI hope to tempt you:)
I love your gorgeous post....and we are also big DA fans...even my husband. He adores Maggie Smith the most...she comes out with the best one liners, and her expressions are priceless.
ReplyDeleteI have the cookie cutter and have never been able to have the letters come out so clean. It probably was the cookie dough i used. Will have to try these chocolate ones for sure.
My heart broke for Anna on Sunday...it made me think of how many woman in the past this happened to and they said nothing...even now.
Your Dad was so handsome...i love old sepia pics...we have them all framed and hanging on the wall.
Bisous xoxoxoxoxo
That's Jacques' fave..MS..:)
ReplyDeleteYou WILL get the letters spot on..with this not too sweet recipe..
1 stick of butter:) that's it..
Even now you are right.
I hate him.
Re my dad..
He was like your dad a bit at one point :) Debonair:)
Pics must look so nice!
Cookies! :)
ReplyDeleteYou might want to sit down for this. Please, don't hate me because I'm completely oblivious to the show D.A. But, from what I gather, I believe you were born in the wrong era.
Oh you make me laugh:)
ReplyDeleteI came to the party late also..my friend told me about it one season later ..we played catch up..
:)
Monique, all of my friends love this show, but I don't watch anything because I just don't have time but I know I would love this show! I used to be a fan of many British tv shows, especially old ones like Miss Marple, etc. Cookies look amazing and so unique thanks to those cookie cutters of yours!
ReplyDeleteMonique maybe we should start a weekly blog on every episode...of DA, views, clothing etc.~
ReplyDelete:)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful cookies!
ReplyDeleteGawd I miss Downton Abbey ;((
Some things Paris ain't got.
I miss Downton now the series is over - it was the perfect way to relax on a Sunday evening! Love the cookies.
ReplyDeleteAfter last night's show..
ReplyDeleteI just want to cradle Anna and Mr Bates..and you know what to you know who.
I started watching last year and really enjoy the show-although I found this episode disturbing. Those cookies are delightful.
ReplyDeleteI know.. but I will keep watching and watching.. he was wonderful to Anna.. worried about what he will do though..?
ReplyDeleteI know I'm late, but I just found your site today. I love the Paris imprints on your cookies, Downtown Abbey, your site, and you for sharing it with us!
ReplyDelete
