Pouding Chômeur De Jacques~

Jacques loves Pouding Chômeur..It's one of his favorites ..I let him make it..My daughters like it also..I leave it to them..I'll grab the cookie..

But it's a great dessert..It means a poor man's pudding..which I don't like the translated name at all..but I can't change it:)

At this time of year.. with Maple Syrup so plentiful..it's a perfect dessert~

f you find yourself out of maple syrup, try this easy substitute made with granulated and brown sugars. Serve maple syrup substitute warm over pancakes, waffles, and biscuits.
    Prep Time: 5 minutes

    Cook Time: 15 minutes

    Ingredients:

    1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
    1 cup boiling water
    1 teaspoon butter
1 teaspoon maple extract or vanilla extract
    Preparation:

Place granulated sugar in a heavy skillet. Heat until the sugar melts and turns brown.

Meanwhile, place brown sugar into a heavy saucepan. Pour water over brown sugar and bring to a boil without stirring.

Add caramelized white sugar to the melted brown sugar in the saucepan. Simmer, stirring often, until syrup is thickened.

Remove from heat, and whisk in butter and maple or vanilla extract.

Serve maple syrup substitute warm over pancakes, waffles, and biscuits.

    Yield: about 1 cup

I searched the net to see about shipping Maple Syrup to Italy..then substitute for Maple Syrup and this came up..I bet it could work..Maple Syrup is not very thick.. It's liquidy.

I always thought of PC as a "Québécois" dessert.. apparently it was a recipe people developed during the 1929 crash. An economical dessert because there are MANY recipes w/out the maples syrup..Jacques makes another w/ just brown sugar.

However..I see many different countries have it w/ different names:)
    Thanks again..hope you try it..

  27. I have also not heard of this dessert and am wondering why! It's maple syrup season now, and with the weather not quite warm it would be so comforting. After buying a new car 2 weeks ago, I think I could rename it "Poor Woman's Dessert" as I dig my spoon in!!
